  1. Recently news broke of Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, a F2P mobile game in the runner genre, would be closing down in Feb. 2023. When that date arrives, the game will become entirely unplayable, as it requires a connection to the servers in order to be played. Obviously, that's a rather small and niche title, but there's large games that use this approach too. Overwatch is entirely online, and when the sequel launched the original game was entirely closed down, leaving nothing from it in a playable state. Even single player games with a multiplayer component will have part of the experience lost forever when the servers are closed for those games, of which I'm sure everyone here can think of at least one example without me giving any. While there are plenty of ways to preserve old games, whether it be through digital copies, emulation, etc. all of those games are offline experiences. But when it comes to games that rely on a server connection, how can those games be preserved at all when they become unplayable without the server? The best you can do is keep the game files on your PC/mobile/console, but I don't consider that preserving those games for history when you can't play them to see what they were like. I suppose YouTube videos could be made of the gameplay, but I'm sure even in the most popular games with an online element don't have every single thing in them extensively documented and recorded so we'd lack a complete picture of the experience. So do you think anything can be done when it comes to preserving online-only games, or games that feature an online component that will eventually be turned off?

  2. Hi again all, right ive been sat thinking again and while doing so came up with todays topic, so i have seen in the past in certain films where they have the ability to download people psyche and memories, which i suppose is a sort of backup of you in case the worse was to happen, ive seen this idea used in many different and weird ways in films, but my idea is a a bit more on the fun side! 🙂 Right so lets just say that the technology for uploading your psyche and memories into a digital format was invented and available. A company came up with the idea of being able to upload your psyche into any game world of your choice and any character you want, be it one already established in a game or one of your own making. Once this has been done it is irreversible and that world will then become your new world and life and your real body would die. In this new world you would not be able to tell it isn't real, as to you it would be, much in the same way as if we all actually live in a simulation in real life, like millions of people believe we do. So food would taste as it should, anything you touch would feel as it should and smells etc etc etc so all in all it would to you be just as real as the real world! My take on this would be to wait until im at the end of my natural life, or carry like a medical card stating that if im in an accident and there is a good chance i wont survive, that they have my permission to upload my psyche into the game of my choice, so that way i get to live my natural life, then be uploaded into my game of choice for my second life lol Now comes the hard part what game world would i choose, well ive got to say at this point im really undecided as there is so many to choose from that i would really love to be able to visit in real life, but i think one of the main contenders has got to be Mass Effect, as not only would earth still be there, at least in some form, in case i got home sick lol but there would be a whole galaxy to explore and the ability to do so, plus id love to meet all the various sentient races from the Mass Effect titles. Also though in the same way as Mass Effect there is the eve galaxy, which is way bigger than the Mass Effect galaxy, but its the Mass Effect worlds l like and the characters. I would like to say id be uploaded into Shepheard (the main hero of Mas Effect) and live as him, but i think i would much rather be uploaded as a young lad and grow up in this world as my own character forging my own path through this world, but with all the knowledge and life experience from this life! As i say though im as yet un decided 100% as the more i think about it the harder it becomes to make a decision, as like i say its irreversible remember! 🙂 So yeah that's my question to you all, what if any world would you be uploaded too and which character and why? I know it a weird one this but it really got my cogs turning! 🙂

Which Pokemon games did you have as a kid? on the gameboy color I had Red, Blue, Yellow and Silver. I never got Gold or Crystal but as a kid I always wanted the latest one that came out 😛 I cooled down as I got older, I think the last one I bought was Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS if memory serves correctly. Although I do have fond memories of playing Yellow & Silver in middle school. Which Pokemon Game(s) did you have? Which was your favorite?

  5. I subscribed to Nintendo Online for a while, but got no enjoyment from it so I cancelled my.... "subscription" I guess you would call it. The only ting I do online with my Switch is buy and download games. I have so damn many DDL's that I haven't even gotten around to playing them all. There's 124 DDL's on my switch right now. So, yeah. A lot to get to.

  8. I have thought about it a few times but I just don't have that much interest in it anymore. It's not a bad game - I just got bored of it. That's all...

  9. I'd say Sigma and it's because he manipulates gravity and is such a great tank character as he's so flexible. He can provide support to his team by levitating enemies in an area with his special move and his ranged damage is pretty high for a tank so he could be a decent DPS.

  10. I was one of the original Fortnite players who started playing in late September 2017 but after a year, I grew bored of it and haven't played it since late 2018/early 2019.

  11. I've played Pacman on so many gaming platforms, I can't actually think of one I owned that I didn't play Pacman on barring my Nintendo Switch which I got fairly recently. But knowing how things work, I'll probably end up with a Pacman game at some point.

  12. I haven't played the game for myself, as I've hkind of held off on it. It's on PS Plus aswell but the filesize is so large that I've not found a good time to dedicate a day to try it out. I've heard good things though, and that it's supposed to be some kind of sleeper hit.

Yes, the 2021 game is (currently) on Game Pass and the 2017 game is not (currently) on Game Pass. It is very fortunate that's true, otherwise it would be impossible to tell what game this was in reference to. Either way, @Smokey mentioning Game Pass was not a deliberate attempt to make it clear what game this was in refence to, and why would @Smokey do that to clarify this? Anyone blessed with both the knowledge there was at least one other GOTG game and even a modicum of common sense would not have relied on that to make it clear. They would art covert art, year of release, link to a store page (For the record, that's what I would do), post a trailer, mention what developer/publisher was behind it, not say "I played it on Game Pass". The only reason that helped was dumb luck. So no, @Smokey, you nor anyone else can use the research I did for you as retroactive excuse for piss poor effort you in making your own thread clear. As the thread author, I shouldn't have to do that for you. Mentioning Game Pass made it possible to figure it out what game it, but not only was it complete fluke because the other game just happens to not be on Game Pass right now, it also doesn't serve the purpose in the long term. What if we get a situation in the future that both games end up on Game Pass. Or if the 2021 game leaves Game Pass? Both of you read the OP again and tell me honestly that you would be able to tell what game @Smokey was talking about if either of those things were to happed. Exactly, you can't. Hell, you can't tell what this was in refence to right now just by reading OP, no without doing your own research into what GOTG games are on Game Pass. Much like I did and spared everybody else the trouble. For that, you are welcome @Smokey, but be honest because the truth is plain to see. You failed to clarify what game you were referring to because either; You didn't know about another Major GOTG game. Couldn't care if there was and was happy to lazily put up a very vague topic up. Or both Like I said, in the future I expect you to start new threads with same care and effort put into them. I'm not saying it needs to be like one of my infamous reviews with video clips and screenshots that take a day to write, just something clear and concise. And @Shortie, I know you've got some sort of issue with me, but believe it or not I have no issue with you. I massaged you one time over a very minor thing and now you're on a bloodhunt for some reason. Following my posts around to then pounce on them and take the opposite stance just to provoke me is pathetic. Just like here, you will inevitably get tripped up and say something that makes no sense and just makes you look foolish because when one writes a forum post in anger, one never thinks it through. I've been in you position myself and it never ends well. So for your own sake, not mine, drop this vendetta and just enjoy the forum. Either way, discussion on this issue is closed. It's clear what game this was about, it was clear before @Shortie's spiteful and completely unnecessary provocation, we can all move on.

    Guardians of The Galaxy.

Considering Smokey stated it was a game on GAME PASS and there is only one on game pass I'd say that's self explanatory. I haven't played the game myself or seen the movies but it's not the first time I've played a game and not seen the movies. Might check this out see what it's like over the Christmas period.

  16. Nah - I'd much rather die when my time comes. There's no way I'm agreeing to that - yes, I may claim you'll "live forever" but in reality, there are certain things that cannot be uploaded no matter how much technology advances and that's the emotions of a person and how they'll react to a situation.

  17. Yes, exactly, the fog was to make it so that texture pop-in wasn't as noticeable due to the draw distance allowed due to the limitations of the original playstation. In turn, doing this as a unique way to hide such limitations, created an eerie atmosphere that became a staple of the series.

  20. It's definitely NOT a worthless hobby. It's pretty much the way of the future. You have communication with others through gaming and making friends; it can be used in schools to help educate; it could have therapeutic effect through VR; there is the art of photography using the photo mode feature; there are job opportunities; there is competition gaming and also through esports; there is military training and could be used for all sorts of job training through simulations. Playing for fun is just one of the many things that's great about gaming.
