This is the official Member of the Month - September 2022 Nominations Thread. The winner will receive 500 VGR Forum Points which can be used in Bid for Rewards. Member of the Month is generally awarded to the individual who had the biggest impact on the VGR Forum. This is generally in the form of contributing the most amount of posts in terms of quantity and/or quality, but can extend to referrals/promotion and other efforts to benefit the community. You only nominate 1 member and you cannot nominate yourself. @Akun won September MOTM and thus is not eligible for this month. Nominations end October 30 at 10pm EST then a new thread will be created for voting. Please keep all thread replies strictly to nominations - no anecdotal discussions/comments.

Enter the VGR Pumpkin Carving Contest for a Chance to Win Cash or Points
DC replied to DC's topic in Gaming Forum
Good question. At this point the intention is a physical pumpkin, subject to change based on participation rate. -
Getting ready to carve your pumpkin? For a chance to win cash or points, enter the VGR pumpkin carving contest. To enter, just carve any gaming-related design you want into your pumpkin together with the letters “VGR.” Then, snap a photo to share with us here in this thread by October 30. All members of the VGR community will then have a chance to vote for the winner. The first place winner will receive $25 via an Amazon gift card. All other participants will receive 1,000 points (which can be redeemed via Bid for Rewards) just for taking part in the contest. If you have any questions about the VGR pumpkin carving contest, you can post them here or PM me. While you are at it, you will want to drop by our Trick or Treat thread where you can participate daily for a chance to win a trick or a treat! Happy Halloween, everyone!

I think it's important to call out friends who behave like this, otherwise the bad behavior is only reinforced. I call it "an opportunity for corrective behavior". If there is no improvement, clearly the friend (individual) does not respect you and your time and it's time to move on from that friendship altogether.
-
It's so disrespectful when someone does not respect your time. Whether it is a date, getting together with friends or family, or a business meeting. I think we all have that one friend in the group who shows up to something 20-30 minutes late. I hosted a poker night last night and made it clear that the first hand would be dealt 10 minutes after the agreed upon start time. Sure enough, one guy was 30 minutes late and he had lost some chips due to the big blind / small blind. Oh well, not going to delay our fun. I give dates 5 minutes and business meeting 10 minutes. I can't deal with individuals are late and do not at least give a reasonable excuse in advance.

What video games handle horses most realistically? I am not just talking about the appearance and behavior of the horses, but also riding and care mechanics.

Recent news posts are reporting that there is a study showing that certain video games may trigger heart problems in certain children that suffer from arrhythmic conditions. It’s always upsetting to read something like this, but knowing there is a problem is the first step to dealing with it. Has anyone here ever met anyone affected by this issue?

There are plenty of movies that feature exciting action, interesting concepts, or cool settings, but which just don’t work for other reasons (i.e. bad acting, tedious or pointless stories, etc.). Some of these movies might work better as video games. Can you think of any examples?

MMO economics can be pretty wild, and often all it takes is one player or a bug of some kind to throw an entire economy out of balance. Do you have any interesting stories to share about MMO economies?

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/video-game-players-avoid-gay-characters/ An interesting article about a study that found that players were significantly less likely to choose to play Soldier 76 after his backstory mentioned him being gay. From the post: “A large minority, however, felt uncomfortable and that other players discriminated against them when they played as Soldier: 76 after the announcement. They got tired of homophobic slurs and constant harassment and temporarily switched to other characters to avoid it.”

Has any video game ever changed how you approach games as a whole?
DC posted a topic in Gaming Forum
Did you ever play a video game that taught you to approach gaming in a different way than you used to? For example, perhaps a game taught you that “shoot first, ask questions later” can have terrible consequences, and you are now more likely in other games to seek diplomatic solutions before opening fire. -
Video games can provide us with an interactive, empathetic way to understand the thoughts, feelings, motivations and actions of their characters, especially when we are put directly in those characters’ shoes. Which video games have you played that delved the deepest into psychological themes?
