Kids are turning to video games to help with their anxiety
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
That's a good way of putting it. I feel like for me, it does bring me back to my childhood of first experiencing games. But I think it's more than that. We shouldn't view video games as something only we as children enjoyed. For me, they're no different than movies, tv shows, books and so on. Essentially it's just another escape from the troubles of life. If anything, I still feel like that teen kid who enjoyed video games growing up. I just got older, that's it. I may be an adult now, but I don't feel like one haha. -
Heard about that, I really hope this whole NFT craze dies faster than the Beanie Baby craze of the 90s. It kinda feels like something similar to that, in that it gets so huge, and then all of a sudden, people start to lose interest, and soon enough, I can see prices coming down on a lot of NFTs, because once the novelty wears off, I think it's done.

Keeping track of minor character/quest information in RPGs
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I think with the Witcher, that games characters felt more real and fleshed out compared to the robotic like characters in Skyrim. I could see it being a lot easier to remember a side character in The Witcher 3 over Skyrim, mainly because I feel those characters have more character, does that make sense? -
I've haven't played much of the Pokemon games myself, but I can imagine it not being as good on the GBA and Gameboy consoles. Is it just the 8bit music you can't get into? But fair, I've never heard music from the series, so I can't judge.

Elgato would be a good option. I haven't heard a whole lot on Aver media either. I just know they have produced capture devices similar to Elgato, but in the past I thought they weren't any good, so I always thought Elgato was the one to go for. But I guess they're not so bad. Reading some reviews they seem to be a more affordable option as well.

That's totally fair. Getting up often is recommended if you sit for long hours. I try to get up every two hours or so to move around. With a standing desk, I could just flip a switch, and it'll move up and I can then stand around for a bit to get circulation going proper again. Standing desks can work for just about anyone, techy people, gamers, people who work with crafts and other things too. Standing desks can be used for a lot. I want to eventually get those standing desks that rise up or down. If you want to sit you can, and if you want to stand, that's an option too. 🙂

Yeah it's essentially impossible to stream with one screen. You could do it, but it would be a pain in the ass to figure out. Plus, it'll be hard to talk with chat, pay attention to your OBS or capture program/streaming app and more. I honestly recommend 3 monitors if you have a popping stream. Where you can use one screen for the game, one for the stream (OBS for example) and another screen for just chat and maybe discord if you're using that. But two screens will be a good start.

Is there any such thing as "overhyped" or "overrated" video games?
Kane99 replied to Clasher's topic in Gaming Forum
To be honest, I have been a COD fan for a long time. I still have major gripes with the series, but the thing about them that I like is that they are easy to pick up and play. COD for me, has always been the same in terms of gameplay, so much so that I could pick up each version and do pretty okay once I got some time with it. Yeah the small changes may take a little getting used to, but I usually get used to the changes fast and it then falls in line with your typical COD experience. I know fans who have each game, and just really like playing it. But I also know fans who just get it to play with friends and enjoy the MP experience for a while. And of course the fans who are diehards and wait until midnight day one to get the game, and stay up days playing the MP. I used to be that person lol, but not anymore. -
What game do you struggle with that everyone claims is easy?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Idk, I imagine there are a few people out there who are masters at most Dark Souls games and can get through them with ease. Of course, those are also probably seasoned vets who have played the games so much, that they have become pros at the series. I know if you have patience for these games, and can handle dying so much, I can see you eventually becoming a pro at it. I just don't have the patience myself lol. -
I hope they do, or allow us to set up our own online servers for the game so we can mod as we wish. That would be even cooler I think. But I doubt Rockstar would do that. There's a few mods I want to try, like an improved ragdoll physics, and maybe some character mods.

It's a depressing moment indeed. To know this character is possible bad himself, was a big thing. And to see the moments where he was making rash decisions even though we as the player at the time thought everything was mostly fine, as fine as being in a warzone could be. I love the game for its portrayal of PTSD as its happening. To show that any soldier out there could be dealing with a similar situation. It sucks that it was overlooked as just another shooter at release, because I think if more people played this, we would have been screaming game of the year contender. But, the gameplay isn't that great, and got repetitive fast.

Aspects of gaming you had to learn to appreciate
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I'll try to pay attention to the dialogue, but if it's just text based with no voice I will get tired of reading it fast. I feel it takes me out of the game when I have to constantly read stuff. But I do try to pay attention when it's important. Yeah I need to start paying more attention with games like this. I guess I'm just lazy when it comes to reading, or when I see a wall of text on a paper I feel like I'm going to get stuck reading this and it'll take me out of the main story. But that's mainly with having to read letters and notes. -
I think as we get older, our interests lessen a bit. I don't get as excited for video games as I used to. I still get the urge to game on occasion, especially with RDR2 and Powerwash sim recently, but there are times where I don't feel like gaming. I haven't touched my Xbox one much for games in months now since I got a gaming PC. I used to game on it all the time, but my PC does just fine for me. And even so, I only seem to game at night and for a couple hours. Some nights I don't game at all and just watch movies, tv and youtube.

Oh nice, I'm tempted to buy it, but I think I'll wait. Trying not to spend money on much these days, so will wait it out. Plus it's only $15 otherwise, so I think I can eat the cost when I eventually get to it. And who knows, maybe it'll be on sale then. 🙂

There was an achievement in Mirror's Edge, that when you jumped on an enemies head, you'd get an achievement saying something about jumping on enemies heads to kill them. In reference to Super Mario. Another I recall was in the Simpsons for just click start. I think you get an achievement for 0G on Xbox 360 lol. There's other games that have had some cool achievements, but I'm not recalling any.

Did you ever tally your win-loss record against people?
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
Oh for sure, if there is a ton of cash involved, it's essentially stealing if you hack and cheat your way to win it. It's also messed up, because that person is also taking that chance away from good players. 1) Yeah true. I remember with COD leaderboards, you could tell if they were fake, because they'd have their name altered with certain characters not usable in a gamertag, and some would have special effects with the words. 3)True, I believe I remember some games would reset the stats every few months to a year. I think COD even did that once or twice. Or maybe it was Halo, I don't remember. 4)Yeah true. I think it would also become a chore to track them. Maybe tracking them all at the end of the day to get an idea of your daily total or something? Plus I kinda like the idea of keeping track of my stats. Maybe not as they happen, but maybe a daily, weekly, or monthly stat sheet. Plus, who knows how long these leaderboards will stay up. Maybe I want to remember my skills from the good old days. 😄 -
Yeah, but aren't there many esports teams that are really huge and popular? Like that fazeclan for example. I'm not saying they're Hollywood level, maybe not even B level actor status, but I can see them being at least influencers as well. I believe it will be used for crime a lot haha. With gamers it seems like every major venture is a fraud in some way. Like that CSgo lottery scheme that was cooked up by those youtubers years ago.

It's kinda scary too, considering that it's probably hard to catch some cheaters. Hearing that some pro players are caught, years later using cheats and hacks, is crazy to me. I've played against cheaters and hackers. It makes me wonder how many of the "good" players I played against back in the day, were actually cheating and hacking. Is there some kind of testing players do to be added to a team or organization? I figure they don't just let anyone on the team, so they have to be well vetted I would hope.

Have you ever played against a famous esports player?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
I've witnessed smack talk in many sports and mediums, nothing new to me really. I just figured that some esports organizations frown upon smack talk during tournaments. I can see small time tournaments and events allowing it, but for the bigger organizations, I imagine smack talk is only allowed outside of the tournament. But I could be wrong on that. I just feel like these big time esports leagues would have rules about smack talk or any kind of speaking to the opponents. At least while each other is playing. -
Have you ever won an esports tournament?
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
Would you do that right through the games itself? Essentially playing ranked modes until I get far enough? I wish I was good at multiplayer games. I tend to suck when there is a challenge. I remember playing COD a lot back in the day and when I got onto a kill streak, I'd start to feel the pressure. I remember getting a nuke in one of the games and immediately freaked out, I don't know if I could even take the pressure of competing against pros. -
Yeah Dark Souls likes to torment you like that, they force you to get good fast. I know with the first Dark Souls the beginning is just a test, and like someone said in this topic, you're meant to flee until taking him on shortly after. But for me, when I played I got killed by him right away. I know some people even defeat him right from the start. But those players tend to be pros. 😄 But yeah, many gamers make the same mistake, going in and getting sweeped in the process. I got through that first bit, but didn't stick with the game for unfortunately.

What's a game you should like but just find too mundane/bad
Kane99 replied to DC's topic in Gaming Forum
There's just so much going on in dark souls that I can't be bothered to get better. I can't handle trying to beat a boss that kills you hundreds of times, over and over. I can't do it, I get really annoyed and quit. I'm sure it feels awesome to defeat that boss you've been trying to beat for hours, but can't get invested like that myself. -
One other thing is when you get a scripted death or a death that happens on purpose. I think that kinda counts right? That's fair. I remember in GTA IV the driving being kind of crap at first. But once you got it down, it became so much easier.
-
Actually, I may have one. The walking dead season one by telltale, I felt had a drastic shift. Spoilers for those who haven't played, but there's a point near the end where you can choose to take someone's life. I won't spoil who, but it puts you into the shoes of another character after, who then becomes the main character.

Content-related deal-breakers in deciding to play a game?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Another deal breaker is games with drm or require you to always be online. Especially if it's a single player game. I never understood why drm is a thing. I know it's meant to stop people from sharing and downloading these games for free. But I think it hurts more than anything. Because when that games servers are shut down, you can't play it. So I never liked drm and stuff like it.
