Xbox is a big name in the US and maybe the UK, but elsewhere, not so much. PlayStation on the other hand is well known in many locations and to my knowledge, they sell a lot more in UK and other foreign countries. Xbox has had problems selling in Japan and some other countries. Yeah, but Sony is still making money because of these scalpers. It's more of a problem for consumers, because they're stuck waiting for PS5s to show up, because these scalpers are jumping in lines to get their hands on as many as they can.

That's the thing, it didn't really need all the hype to begin with, because it being made by the creator of Dark Souls and Bloodborne was more than enough to sell this game. Fans knew what they were getting, and it's for the most part, what they wanted. If this was by a no name studio and unknown team, I don't think there would have been as much hype. There would be some, but not on the level of what this guy gets. I agree. Games can be overhyped in the sense that everyone expects something to happen, and it doesn't go the way they expect. For example, Cyberpunk 2077. I personally like the game, but the hype made it bigger than what it was. I enjoy Call of Duty to some extent, and GTA V, but I would say they are highly over-rated franchises, imo. I feel this way mainly because I'm tired, all played out on these franchises these days. They don't give me the excitement like the older GTA and Call of Duty games did. Anyway, I'm going off topic, I'll end it there lol.

Unpopular Opinion: The 3D effect for the 3DS was pretty cool
Kane99 replied to NightmareFarm's topic in Nintendo
The backwards compatibility was a big seller for the 3DS. Even though it was a slow start, I think people eventually knew the 3DS would be the future for them and so they finally moved along to it. Having backwards compatibility I think, helped sell that handheld even more. And for me, it the 3D effects didn't bug me much, but there were a couple times where I was like I'm tired of the 3D and I just want to see a 2D screen for now. I wish I owned a 3DS myself. I want to take advantage of the amount of games that came on the DS & the 3DS. So many great games I'm missing out on for sure. On top of that, I should eventually get a GB SP so I can also collect GB, GBC, and GBA games. -
Silly completionist things you did as a gaming newbie
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Yeah, I remember when I was a kid I always wanted to collect everything, and I tried to do it. These days though, I have no patience for grinding. Back when I was a kid, it was still new to me, so the repetition was fine. But after playing so many games in my lifetime, I realized that I'm too lazy when it comes to the grinding in games today. It's just to much stuff you have to do now to 100% a game. I want fast paced more these days. And yeah I too still hold onto every weapon. I do this in RDR2 a lot, I haven't stored any of my weapons in the weapon chest you can use in camp or at a hotel. I figure it would be a good idea to start using it, because I don't use every single gun on my horse. And I figure it'd make it easier to switch between the guns I like and need a lot faster. -
Didn't know that was an option with Rocksmith, but that's pretty cool. And yeah, I wish we'd get more Guitar Hero, hell a new DJ Hero would be cool. I still need to revisit that game on the 360, as I have the peripheral and the game, so I can actually play it. I just don't know if I can be bothered to hook up my 360 these days lol.

Nice, I have no space to hook up multiple consoles, but it is kind of a dream of mine to build a bookshelf/tv stand combo, where I would put all of my consoles on it, so I can hook them up whenever I want. I would also love to find a spot for my CRT tv so I can do retro games as well. But that's for later. But yeah, I think it'd be cool to have all PS consoles, same with Xbox and Nintendo. I doubt I'd have the room for everything though. 😄

My dog doesn't give a shit about me so much, she's super attached to my dad, so wherever he goes, she follows. My cat on the other hand, will jump on me and cuddle while I'm doing just about anything, gaming, watching a movie, relaxing, etc. He's one who likes to be held. He'll sleep in my arms sometimes, or just handout on my chair. I mostly game on my PC though, so he doesn't sit near me. I've been thinking about setting up a spot for him near my PC so he could lounge next to me, but idk how I'm going to do that.

How often do you buy video games the week they release?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Usually I don't unless it's a game I really want. Last game I purchased brand new, was probably RDR2, but I am not 100% anymore. It may have been WWE 2K22, but I forget. Either way, I don't usually buy the first, second or even the third week. These days I just get gamepass and that's really all I ever need. I download some games, play them, and then move on to the next. I play older games more than I play newer games. I also buy older games more than I buy newer games. It helps having gamepass, so I haven't had to purchase much as of late. -
What makes devs remove functionality from subsequent games in series?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
The Blackangel is correct. It usually comes down to time constraints and the budget. I look at GTA IV to GTA V for example. You see a bigger game in GTA V correct? Well, there was a lot of things in GTA IV that didn't show up in GTA V. One thing I found was that the fighting was worse in GTA V than it was in GTA IV, at least in my opinon. I just remember GTA IV having more combo options with your fighting. This video shows some things GTA IV did better: -
Unpopular Opinion: The 3D effect for the 3DS was pretty cool
Kane99 replied to NightmareFarm's topic in Nintendo
Sorry to hear that. I know some people had issues with the touch controls. I never really cared all too much for them, but most of the games I did play, didn't require you to use the second screen all too much or the touch controls. Was your 3DS maybe damaged at some point and that caused issues with the touch controls? -
I've been looking into modding RDR2 single player, just to get some more life out of it and have some extra fun. I want to do it once I have 100% the game. I then want to mod it to mess around in the single player world. What I want to know is, is it safe to mod the single player mode for RDR2? I know online is a no-no considering that's a ban right there. But I would like to just play on single player. I hear they add map updates and new missions even, so I'm all for that. I think it'd be fun to make little videos too.

Some parents were like that. My parents didn't always allow me to game, there were times where I wasn't allowed, or had a time I had to be off the games. I did get a lot of the "You should be outside, stop playing video games, they're for kids" or "You're wasting your life playing games", etc. Stuff like that always bugged me, because I had family who would watch TV all day, or read all day. What's the difference if I want to game all day? But these days, gaming is more popular than ever and I think people are more accepting of the hobby. Plus now with people making real money from it, either in making games, playing them, or talking about them.

Oh I was referring to The Quarry. I know of the Olli Olli games. I played one of them a while back, but didn't really get into it that much. It was fun for a little bit, but I found it lacking compared to other skate games. Plus I don't remember, but didn't it have a 2D side scrolling feel? I don't think I liked that aspect. Anyway, what about The Quarry, how was it?

Yeah, I don't own a lot of the newer Nintendo consoles. Last Nintendo console I officially owned was probably the N64 or the Gameboy advance, and I no longer have the advance as I gave it to my niece for her birthday one year. I have played some of the newer games with family and friends though. I still own most of my retro mario games and still sometimes play them. As for GTA SA, I'd say that qualifies as a retro game at this point. 2004 was 18 years ago. I remember hearing that NES games were retro by the late 90s early 2000s, so I'd say GTA SA qualifies at this point. Plus, I consider anything retro to be something that is obsolete by the time. Does that make sense?

Yeah, but wasn't there a shortage of chips that's still causing prices to stay a bit up there? I could be wrong, but I heard there was a chip shortage for the past year or so now. If that's the case though, awesome, because I wouldn't mind building a new gaming PC when I can afford to. And on a side note, I am never investing in crypto. Spent $60 a while back on three kinds of crypto, and now have like $25 worth left lol.
-
Ah ok, so you were talking about Second Life. Yeah I heard it was a time consuming game. I think I may have downloaded it years ago, but couldn't get into it. I hear it's still somewhat popular today too. As for The Playboy Mansion, I imagine there's not nearly as much content as say The Sims had. I feel like a game like that, would often be a bit shorter and have less stuff to do. Plus I imagine it focused more on being a perv than actually anything else. But I could be wrong. 😄

That is very likely to happen, especially with EA involved. But I do have some hopes that the team behind Skate are given the freedom to do what they want and not what EA tells them to do. Honestly, if it's like Fortnite for example, I'd have no issue with it, because in that regard, you can play the game all the way through without having to pay a single cent. But of course, if you want to get all of those unlocks for the season, you have to pay $10-$15 a season. The reason I can see it working, is because Fortnite changes every season, they always seem to do something new and fresh. If Skate can replicate that type of live service game, and make it work, I honestly think it would go over fine. But, maybe I'm too hopeful, because the track record with EA is hard to overlook. But, we'll see.

I think that makes it even more fun if everyone is answers differently. The more random of a playthrough, I think the better. That way if I ever want to, I can revisit it myself and play it solo, maybe try to change the story around. That's the point with these types of games, that's their replayability, the fact that you could get different endings with each playthrough. Idk how many endings there are, but I'm sure there are some.

Honestly, have you considered some of what Newgrounds offers? They produced a ton of 2D shooters back in the day, some if I remember, were actually good and resulted in actual console ports. I think Alien Hominid or whatever it was, originally started on Newgrounds before it graced consoles. I think Hollow Knight qualifies, and I remember playing a bit of it. Was quite fun. There's also Broforce, Cuphead (if you want a challenge, I still haven't played it myself lol). Oh and if you want a classic, go with Smash TV on the NES. I'm sure you could emulate that no prob. 🙂

Netflix should really start to release bigger/triple A games
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Video Games
On top of all that, they're losing money like crazy producing content. They just don't have the money to support it. Though I wish it was a possibility, because I think with Netflix in the gaming world, it could be interesting to see what they produce. But, maybe that will happen in the future when Netflix gets their shit together. If they can invest in studios to come on board and produce exclusive games, that could work. -
With MGS 2 though, I believe fans were more mixed on that. I think a lot of people hated not being able to play as Snake throughout the majority of the game. I haven't played MGSV, but I already know that Snake and Big Boss and all them are clones if I remember correctly. With Atreus it's a bit different. You weren't forced to play as him with Kratos in the background. To my knowledge, the first and new game you take control of Kratos, and Atreus is your backup. What I think will happen, is maybe Kratos will become the backup eventually, while you take Atreus over. But, I don't think that will happen until after a third game, to make it a solid trilogy. Then they can explore Atreus as a main character, with Kratos as a backup character. This way he doesn't go away and can still be an important part of the games.

Is The Last Of Us part 3 ever going to be a reality?
Kane99 replied to Clasher's topic in Video Games
And that's fair. But I feel at this point that Naughty Dog are set to keep this franchise going. If all these remasters says anything, they are willing to stick with these franchises and milk them for everything they can. I really didn't think we needed another remaster of the first game, but we're getting it. And I'm sure The Last of US part 2 will get another remaster by the time a third game is announced or released. -
Videogame Franchises that outstayed their welcome?
Kane99 replied to Yaramaki's topic in Gaming Forum
AEW has been talking about their own game for a while now, have even shown off images of the game. It looks more cartoonish, but is being developed by Yukes, who was the team behind the WWE games for a while. They also have a wrestling management game on mobile, but I haven't played that. But with WWE games, they are very much lack in recent years. The new changes to the recent game were great and needed, but it still feels like the last 5 or so games, where I see similar animations, the belts don't sit on you, the belts clip, created characters sometimes don't show up for their match. WWE 2K is still a mess in many ways, but is much better than recent versions. But, 2K needed to prove that they could still deliver on a WWE game, but I don't know the official sales, but I heard that if it didn't sell well, then they may look into a different direction. I hope they get a different dev team behind it. -
Ok, that does look Sims like, I'll have to check it out. Not super into the art style, but I'll try it out and see if I can get used to it. Honestly, it kinda reminds me of earlier games in the 2000s or so.

It's not out yet, but sounds like 2023 will be the year we can play it. I'm excited to play it. Love service games get a lot of hate, and I understand why, but I feel if it's done right, it could work for both the devs and the fans. Just gotta make sure EA doesn't cause it to back to being greedy. Which is a real possibility.
