North America has its first video game union at Vodeo Games
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
The thing is, the gaming industry needs a union. So many studios push their developers to work long hours, and to do crunch to get a game done. I think it's fair to have a union out there to better protect the developers and other workers who are often screwed over by studios and publishers. Something has to be done, because there's been a slew of stories about how so many studios promote crunch. On top of that, developers don't get the best pay either. -
It was forgettable? Is that a good way to put it? It wasn't bad, but no one really paid much attention to it. I could see them doing a sequel, to fix the mistakes they made with the first game. True, but for a game like this, I could see it resulting in a remaster or a sequel. I'm starting to lean more towards a sequel though, or even an outright reboot.

Oh for sure. it wasn't until they started doing 3D worlds that they blew up. The first top down games were popular, but not on the level of GTA 3 and the sequels to follow. I think GTA would have survived on Xbox, if anything it would have pushed Xbox ahead. But, it's very likely that Rockstar still would have dropped Microsoft and go multi-platform later. These days studios are leaving exclusivity deals and doing multiplatform or are outright getting bought up by studios. So Rockstar probably would have done just fine.

Yeah, that isn't fun. Which is why I like cloud backups. It just copies the last valid save and keeps that on the cloud for you. Backups shouldn't overwrite saves unless you load it over it. But yeah, any cloud saves that overwrite your manual save is a no go for me.

I have no issues with games being cinematic, it's just when games only focus is to be cinematic. Maybe the rest of the game is mediocre and paint by numbers, but the cutscenes and other aspects are presented better. With Hellblade 2, even though you are mostly moving around, to me, it feels more like you're on a track, and have to follow it. That's how I view it more as cinematic compared to being in control. Because sure, I could stop moving, and get killed, but you're essentially moving into a direction that is predetermined. Does that make sense? Anyway, I know the game will have combat, which I'm psyched for. So it's not 100% just cinematic. QTE events are worse for sure. I absolutely hated them in Indigo Prophecy and any other game to come after.

Yup indeed. Fanboys are a big problem, since they fawn over their favorite games and companies, and if you argue with them about it, or say something bad, they flip out. They are the reason that so many game companies get away with their abuse and unfair treatment, because they keep putting money down for said games. It's just a bit annoying to see how idiotic some fans can be for their favorite things. It's almost like when you talk bad about a game, they will take it to heart pretty much.

If you could revisit one gaming generation, what would it be and why?
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming Forum
Would be an interesting time to go back to. Seeing the many arcades, and seeing what Pac-Man and other arcades did for the time. I grew up in the 90s, so arcades weren't as huge back then, and soon enough, most arcades are pretty much gone. So I think it would have been cool, going to the arcade on the weekends to play games. I never got to experience that, so I'd go back and do that I think. -
Yeah, I can see this bringing in a ton for studios and publishers. I know many gamers who would be so into this, and will find ways to abuse the system if possible. I agree. It's just going to result in more riches for the studios and we'll get nothing great in return. That's how it always is for us gamers. We get screwed over and the big studios get awarded with more and more cash which never goes to the actual developers, but the big time publisher. I just won't use the feature in games I get, if they have it. I still have hopes that NFTs will die out soon. I still think it could be a fad that will drop off at some point. I hope.

I believe Dog's Life was the one I played in demo form all those years ago, pretty sure on the PS2 at one point. I don't remember much about the demo, but I remembered the controls were fairly decent. I need to replay Spyro, haven't played it since I played the original on the PS1 back with my nephew. It's been a long time. But yeah, I'll have to revisit Dog's Life and maybe Spyro while I'm at it. Thanks for the suggestions!

yeah I saw some on Amazon a while back, but wasn't sure if I wanted to grab one of those. Just seemed awfully cheap. But I will keep an eye out for any others that may be worth it. Do you have any suggestions for good USB vacuums?

Graphics for me aren't that important. As long as it doesn't hurt my eyes, and I can play without much fuss, I will be happy with the end result. Now, if the graphics are a major downgrade and make it hard to sit through, then yeah, I'd hope for a graphic update at least.

Glad to hear it. I can play most games, but any that may be resource hogs I try to not play for long periods of time, because I am paranoid it would result in damage to my PC. But I found I just turn down the settings. Even when settings are turned down, the games still usually look good, so I can't complain. 🙂 Yeah, I heard if there is a lot of abuse to the computer, it would just shut down to protect itself. I haven't encountered that yet thankfully. 🙂

Yup, that's one issue I have to. I see a game I want in my collection and bam, I have more games that I won't be touching anytime soon. I still have Borderlands 3 sitting on my shelf, brand new, and yet to even play it. I was considering just giving it away to my nephew, since I really have no interest in playing it anytime soon.

Yeah I guess Cuphead would fit into this, because who would have thought a game about a cup would make it big. But yeah, it does seem to be quite meme heavy in some regards. I've yet to play it myself, I hear it's pretty tough.

Is it worth it to play any GTA game before GTA5?
Kane99 replied to Reality vs Adventure's topic in Gaming Forum
You don't need to play them, but they are good games in their own right and I'd say they are worth going through to get a feel for what GTA used to be and what it has become. GTA V is vastly different than the original 3D trilogy, but it stands in its own category if anything. GTA V is more serious, but the past GTA games are more relaxed and comical, also random. But I'd recommend playing them all. Except for maybe GTA 3 because it's not nearly as good as the sequels. Though it's the first one I played in the series and still rather love. -
Ah nice, good to know. I heard a while back you could do it, so I was curious how it worked. I guess they make it work like the other player is just using a second controller, not sure. But it's cool that they're making these retro games playable online with friends. Now if we could see other NES and classic retro games, get this treatment somehow, that'd be cool. I'd love to see all cart based games playable online somehow. Maybe through emulation or through Nintendo's online service. But now that I see it's possible, I want to see other retro games do the same.

I mean, it's as good as any other year I'd say. The scalpers are probably the ones that made the year worse, considering so many people are yet to get the new gen consoles, and scalpers are still taking control. I think by mid 2022 though, we'll start to see that trend slow down and people will be able to get consoles a lot faster. I hope so at least. But other than that, 2021 was kinda a tame year. I didn't see anything too impressive. Maybe Deathloop could be considered best game of 2021, but idk what else to be honest.

Schools doing national competitions for game design
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
I wish schools did this when I attended. I always dreamed of going to a class where I could do anything with video games. I was born in the wrong time I guess haha! But seriously, this is cool because it gets a lot of these kids started on game development, and learning the systems to make said games. I wish I had started on stuff like this in high school, because who knows, maybe I'd be a game developer by this point. -
That'd be something. I could see us getting close to contact lenses that have screens. Not sure how much that'd cost companies, but I think it'd be cool. Yeah, or maybe we have ones we wear 24/7. We can even use it on the go. I think that'd be crazy fun! Oh, you mean like a seat where you can sit and play in VR? Kinda like the animus? 😄

Thanks. I tried can of air in the past, but maybe I put it too close to my PC. This guy doesn't spray so close, so maybe that's why my older PC died on me. I'll keep this in mind when I eventually get to cleaning my PC. 😄

I personally loved the second movie, but couldn't get invested into the original. I liked the original the first viewing, but it was just too dark (hard to see stuff) and the bad guys were pretty boring. Also I hated the Joker, and felt like that movie wasted its time on the Joker subplot. The second movie had great comedy and action as well. And it was more colorful and wasn't as dark. 😄

You'd think, at least with GTA. Minecraft had so many channels starting out, and it seems like there are still a lot of people on YouTube playing and streaming content around Minecraft. I never expected it to be as big as it is. New generations keep coming back to it. I'm sure games like GTA will come close to it one day. Not sure if Skyrim & RDR2 are that popular on YouTube these days though. Seems mostly battle royale stuff, MC and GTA for the most part.

Do you think most games will go free to play in the future?
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming Forum
I could actually see that happening. Especially if all companies start their own Game pass like service. Soon enough we'll be making cable like providers to combine all the services into one. I hope that day doesn't happen though. Honestly sports games should go that route. That PES game is making their future Soccer title free to play, I forgot the title of it, but they plan to update it periodically. Madden and other sports titles could benefit from just letting a studio continually work on it. -
Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that one. I played that one all the way through, was a pretty fun game. I also forgot about Goat Simulator, that one I'd say counts here. But yeah, Untitled Goose Game was a blast. I wish it was a lot longer though, because it felt really short. Maybe they expected you to replay it over and over.

It's one of those games I will never forget. The opening scene with that awesome soundtrack. I sadly have never beaten it. My skills were always tested playing it, even though I'd never get very far. But it was always a treat to boot this game up and hear that music blaring. I love it. The stage 1 music is my favorite for sure:
