  1. I may not be a fan of Elon Musk, but this is at least some good news. The Neuralink brain chip that Musk has introduced has recently been tested on a patient who is completely paralyzed from the neck down. The chip has given him the ability to play some games, like Chess and even Civilization. This is awesome news, as it could mean disabled individuals might have more options. I can imagine how rewarding it must feel for someone who is paralyzed to be able to control something. Whether it be a video game, or to operate a TV, or other devices. This could also be good for people who can't speak, or are completely unresponsive. The man who had the Neuralink brain implant is Noland Arbaugh. He had a diving accident that resulted in him dislocating his C4-C5, which paralyzed from the neck down. So this could be another way for him to have some control in his life. He can still talk, but if this can result in playing video games and controlling other things that'd be awesome. It might get better over time to where he can control more advanced games. 2. Source - https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/03/21/xbox-creates-one-of-a-kind-fallout-vault-box-in-celebration-of-upcoming-prime-video-series-fallout/ This looks cool. Looks like Microsoft and Amazon Prime are doing a cool giveaway for a Fallout themed safe that can fit an Xbox One Series X and a controller. Not only can you win the safe, but the safe also includes a Fallout-themed Xbox Series X and Fallout themed controller. The giveaway is open now and ends April 7, 2024. If you want to enter, follow the link above. It involves the usual retweeting, following, etc to be entered for a chance to win. There are also more images of the safe at the link above. I already entered, but I don't expect to win.
  3. Doom is one of the most famous FPS games and was widely copied back in the day. There were many Doom clone games. I remember there being a Christmas themed Doom style game as well. But I imagine there was tons of obscure clones of the game. I know some people made their own versions of Doom too. Wasn't it like one of the the most pirated games ever? I just remember hearing about the game becoming shareware due to it, as pretty much every device ended up having a version of the game. Anyway, Austin Eruption made a video dedicated to the lot of video games that tried to copy Doom, or at the very least replicate what it did best. Did you play any of the games mentioned in the video? Wolfenstein is one that comes to mind, and I also played Disrupter on PS1 back in the day. But I didn't play many Doom style games growing up.
  4. The graphics in this one look stunning. Empire of the Ants is an upcoming real-time strategy game from Tower Five. It looks like the purpose of the game is to help guide your colony of ants to certain locations all the while dealing with obstacles and dangers. You can tell it was made with Unreal Engine 5, as the graphics look extremely realistic. I've always liked games where you play as something small, like an ant. There is no official release date yet, but it says it will arrive sometime this year. I wonder if this is a remake of the game that released in 2000 on PC.
  5. There is a new action MMORPG on the horizon with Chrono Odyssey from Npixel. It will release for the PC (Steam/Epic Games), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. No mention of a release date yet, but I imagine it will be announced soon. Check out the trailer that was released during GDC, looks fairly decent, but the trailer is mostly cinematic, doesn't really show any gameplay. You can find out more on the game here as well - https://chronoodyssey.com/#/
  6. NVIDIA recently showed off it's tech demo of its generative AI during the GTC AI conference. The new tech demo was titled Covert Protocol, and shows the Nvidia Ace technology in action on character faces in game. They partnered with Inworld AI to produce the demo. The tech is meant to bring digital characters to life with AI assisted animation. The facial work was assisted by Nvidia Audio2Face, while the speech was done with the help of Nvidia Riva automatic speech recognition and text-to-speech. As you can see in the video below, the results are a mixed bad. A cool thing about it, is that they're releasing the source code for free so anyone can play with it. So they could improve upon the animation, and other aspects of the AI. Techraptor has an interesting article about it here: https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/nvidia-ai-demo-unwittingly-proves-that-human-voice-actors-artists-and-writers-are It discusses how this tech demo proves that real actors, artists and writers are irreplaceable in the world of gaming. Sure these AI tools will get better, but it will never be perfect enough to where it can replicate the passion behind the acting, writing, and the art.
  7. A new Marvel game was revealed during Epic Games Unreal Showcase at GDC and it's being helmed by Amy Hennig's studio Skydance New Media. It will be called Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and will be set during WWII in occupied Paris. You can play up to four players, those being: Captain America, T'Challa's grandfather Azzuri (the Black Panther of that era), US soldier and Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Wakandan spy Nanali. Check out the reveal trailer below.
  8. Anyone here played Roboquest? It's a FPS with roguelike elements, where the intent is to play solo or with someone else to take on hordes of enemies in randomly generated environments. It reminds me a lot of Doom for its fast paced gameplay. It's been out since last year, and has gotten rave reviews since release. Some have compared it to games like Borderlands. Steam page - https://store.steampowered.com/app/692890/Roboquest/ It's also available for PC via Steam and GOG, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
  9. I've never played Snatcher as I never had a PC to play it, and never got to play it on the Sega CD either. From what I can see, there's not many places that have the game available for sale, actually non that I can tell. It doesn't look to be available on any modern consoles or even on PC. I could emulate it I suppose, but I wouldn't mind adding a copy of the game to my collection too. What is the best way to play Snatcher? Via PC or Sega CD? Or is emulation really the only option right now? Might be time to do a re-release for modern consoles and PC you think? Also, who here has played Snatcher, is it as good as people say?
  10. This is just a rumor for now, but we are getting closer and closer to a new Xbox console, so the idea that some countries are getting devkits isn't far from reality. If a new console is coming, this could signal that an announcement could be coming soon as well. The rumors are that some South Korean developers are testing out the new devkits for an upcoming Xbox console. It could also be a rumored handheld console that some allege Xbox is interested in making. What I hope it's not, is a new version of the Series X|S and is actual news of a new Xbox console. Even if it's a handheld, I think it'd be great to know more. A user on X first brought up the news, as they found a certification granted by Xbox themselves, and it's also said the certificate mentions a device name being XDK Console, which comes out to be Xbox Development Kit. Now, this could just be a group asking for a new devkit for current Xbox consoles for all we know, but I wonder if it could actually be the next console. If so, I assume other devs have the devkit, but just haven't revealed those details yet like that X user did. Read more on this news here: https://gameshorizon.com/news/new-xbox-devkit-certified-in-korea-could-be-next-gen-console-rumor/
  11. I don't frequently play golf style games, but when I do, I usually tend to go for the fun, obscure, party style games. Like Golf with your friends for example, which doesn't take golf too seriously and is just a quick and fun game to play with a group of friends. But I found What The Golf? recently and it seems to be a completely different golf game. Instead of a standard golf game, this game is more of a mixed bag of obscure and fun puzzles and game modes that feature some aspects of golfing, but I wouldn't call this a golf game. Some modes are like golf style games, but the trailer shows driving segments and other random game modes mixed in. So has anyone played this? Is it worth checking out? https://store.steampowered.com/app/785790/WHAT_THE_GOLF/
  12. Found from - https://wealthofgeeks.com/most-offensive-video-games/ The article above discusses 24 video games that would never cut it today. There's a lot of games from Hatred, Custer's Revenge, The Guy Game, JFK Reloaded, and stuff like Super Columbine Massacre RPG that makes sense. Out of this list, what games would you say would never see the light of day again? Surprisingly there is no mention of Manhunt or its sequel, which I figure would easily be a top contender for this list. I forgot in Left 4 Dead 2 it got some heat for having a New Orleans level not too soon after Hurricane Katrina. The list also mentioned Modern Warfare 2's No Russian mission, which saw you mass murdering people at an airport. Anyway, do you agree with the list above? What games would you take out of this list and what ones would you add in? Still surprises me Manhunt 1 or 2 isn't included. I would have expected that over a lot of the games mentioned.
  13. Has anyone played Desolatium? Is it worth checking out? For those wondering, it's a first-person graphic adventure game that's heavily based around Lovecraft mythos. It looks like a more modern point and click adventure game to me. I really like the mix of modern and comic-book style graphics though. It's available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and the Switch. More on the game: https://desolatium.com/
  14. This is kind of crazy, but I guess there is an exploit in Apex Legends that recently has resulted in two pro players being hacked during a gaming tournament. The pro players who were targeted, received wall hacks and aim assist hacks mid-match. Most would think that the players were using these hacks intentionally and accidentally made it known, but video proof of the incident shows the hacker group posting a message announcing the hack in game. Supposedly the hackers found an exploit somewhere, some say the anti cheat system used in the game, and were able to remotely take access of these players computers installing and using said hacker tools. No joke, it's alleged that it's the way the anti-cheat works. You can watch a video of one of the targeted players: It got so bad, that Apex Legends has postponed the North America finals for its Global Series championship. Not a good look for EA right now. 15. Source - https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/sony-has-reportedly-halted-psvr-2-production-until-its-current-backlog-is-sold/ar-BB1k5t6N Looks like the new PSVR 2 from PlayStation isn't selling so well since its release back in February of 2023. Each month that has gone by the amount of units sold has been dropping. Q4 or 2023, Sony only sold 325,000 units of the PSVR 2. Not a good sign when the Meta Quest 3 sold 1.3M units during their Q4 of 2023. It doesn't help any when they chose not to make any of the first PSVR's games backwards compatible, as another problem is the limited amount of games on the new headset. So, Sony is not producing more product until this backlog is sold off. Maybe this could mean a price drop is coming soon. There is also rumors of them supporting PC as well, so if and when that happens, I expect more people to hop on then.
  16. What are some good or even great games that had a horrible ending? There are a couple for me, the big one is probably Assassin's Creed III. I really enjoyed the game, most of the story and the setting, but the ending felt rushed and it was boring. For those wondering, you can read it below: Spoilers below: You chase down your father in a burning ship, which ends with a cutscene where you take his life if I remember correctly. After that I think it's mostly cutscenes and going to a location as Desmond. But to build things up, and end it like that, I thought was a disappointment. I wanted to actually battle it out in the end, but it just felt like a chase to the scene. Another game I like, but didn't like the ending, was GTA IV. Another where I thought the ending felt rushed, and didn't really give much of a payoff in the end. What are some good games that had a bad ending? I know Mass Effect 3 will probably be mentioned.
  17. Remember those tiger electronic's handheld systems you could get in the 90s, they were cheap LCD style games that were a static screen with moving sprites and graphics. I had a few growing up, but I wasn't a big fan of them. I always thought they were kind of boring growing up, but to be fair I was already playing NES, Genesis and other consoles around this time, so these handhelds weren't a big thing with me. I had a power rangers themed one, a godzilla themed one and a few others. What were your favorite ones growing up? I've had nostalgia for them recently and have been looking around for used ones at thrift stores. Do you have any in your gaming collection? Do you still boot them up to see if they still work like they did new?
  18. Sonic Unleashed came out after Sonic 06, and from what I remember, it didn't do much of anything to improve upon that game and what came before it. I just remember playing this one and thinking it was a waste of time than anything. It was just one of those game that was mostly forgettable, and yet it happened. Are there any who like the game? It was a lot better than Sonic 06, but that's honestly not saying much with how awful that game was and how mediocre this one was. How do you think this game compares to the newer titles? I don't think it comes close in quality and gameplay, but I think it's playable enough.
  19. Check out the trailer below for the 2.5D upcoming horror/puzzle platformer launching on March 28th. It will come out for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. I'm getting some huge Inside/Limbo vibes from the gameplay. It looks like it'd be fun, so I might check it out when it releases later this month.
  20. I'm so glad there is a hall of fame for video games. This years finalists have been set aside, and you can view some of them below: Asteroids (1979) Elite (1984) Guitar Hero (2005) Metroid (1986) Myst (1993) Neopets (1999) Resident Evil (1996) The rest of the finalists can be viewed here - https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/see-the-2024-finalists-for-the-world-video-game-hall-of-fame/ss-BB1jU9OG#image=1 Only three of the finalists will be picked, and the public can vote on them. The final inductees will be revealed on Thursday, May 9th. As well, you can see the full list of games inducted since 2015 here - https://www.museumofplay.org/exhibits/world-video-game-hall-of-fame/inducted-games/
  21. Wow it's almost been 20 years since Far Cry first released. The game originally released on March 23rd 2004, and next week in celebration of those 20 years, Ubisoft will be doing a live stream celebration with devs to share stories and memorable moments from the many games in the series. Sadly, there will be no details on future Far Cry games, no reveals. Maybe we could get a surprise reveal, but I doubt it. More on this news here - https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/far-cry-20th-anniversary-ubisoft/
  22. Story here - https://www.psu.com/news/saber-interactive-sale-has-been-officially-confirmed-by-embracer-group/ It sounds like this may be good news, at least for Saber Interactive. It is being reported that Embracer group have decided to sell off Saber Interactive to a group of private investors at Beacon Interactive. The company is relatively new, but looks to be started by Matthew Karch, who is the co-founder of Saber Interactive. So it sounds like he's making an attempt to bring the studio back into his control. The studio was sold for $247 million and it includes these studios: Nimble Giant, 3D Realms, Sandbox Strategies, New World Interactive, and Slippage Ironworks. Sadly, it looks like Embracer will be keeping some of the studios, those being; Zen Studios, 4A Games, Tripwire, Beamdog, and Tuxedo Labs along with others not mentioned in the article.
  23. This looks really cool. Winter Survival is a new survival adventure game that released in early access on steam recently. DRAGO Entertainment is behind this one, they're the team who were responsible for Gas Station Simulator. This seems to be their most ambitious title yet. You have to survive a cold wilderness before rescue arrives, and in the process you must deal with dangers like wolves and bears. It's in early access now, and can be purchased from steam here - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1394960/Winter_Survival/
  24. Would you ever buy peripherals from shopping sites like Temu, Wish, and aliexpress? I have purchased stuff from other sites like Dealextreme, which sells a lot of cheap stuff made in china, got a 360 controller, battery chargers, and a gaming headset on there for super cheap. I've yet to purchase anything from Temu, Wish or other similar sites. Hell, I'd say Amazon is becoming a sort of Temu/Wish site with the amount of fake/cheap junk they allow for sale on there. Have you ever found good products from these sites? Or do you usually skip them? I thought the knockoff 360 headset they sold had better sound quality than Xbox OEM ones did. At least the ones I got from Dealextreme back in the day.
  25. Are there any other games similar to Papers, Please? I haven't played much of the game, but from what I did play I have enjoyed it. Are there any other games similar in gameplay? Where you have to verify the person you're letting in is who they say they are. I think there was another game where you had to check cars coming in, and had to check over their license and other info and verify it with info you have. I forgot what that was called though. So yeah, any games like Papers, Please?
