I'm kinda in the same boat about GTA IV. The games before it, were campy fun, and it was clear they didn't take it super serious, but GTA IV and V on the other hand, started to get too realistic/serious. Gone is the campiness of past games. On top of that, the series didn't really innovate all that much to be honest. It was a lazy effort, that's for sure. But I think if they do happen to remaster GTA IV, which is looking more and more like a possibility with recent rumors of RDR1 possibly getting one (they better not break that one) as well. They can't afford to mess up next time. Yes and no. I believe the studio is under Rockstar and Take-Two's umbrella. The studio is called Grove Street Games, they worked on the mobile ports of GTA games in the past, and also seem to do other mobile ports for Rockstar and other studios. I was hoping they wouldn't use the mobile versions and port those. It's just lazy work, simple as that. And I feel like they will do the same with GTA IV. But this time around, they don't have a mobile game to go back off of, unless they first make a mobile version of GTA IV. Oh you mean GTA IV. I thought you were referring to the remastered trilogy. 😄 There's still a lot of fixes that game needs unfortunately. But in regards to GTA IV, it should be fairly easy to remaster it, at least I hope so.

Oh man, I forgot about that trailer for Gears of War. I wasn't even a fan of the game, but that trailer was hype as ever. Especially with the depressing music overlayed with the game. And then I remember seeing tv-spots of a shortened trailer. Loved seeing that trailer. And I think they re-used the song in future teasers and trailers, but not 100% sure. Still though, thanks for reminding me of it.

Are there any games you guys play during the holidays? Maybe it's become a holiday tradition to play certain games with your family on the holidays, or maybe it's a game that released during the holiday season and you always see, to come back to it. I've thought of having tournaments when family come up for the holidays, to start a new tradition. Haven't done it yet, and maybe will sometime in the future. Had to put it off due to covid these past couple years now. Anyway, what games do you have going on during the holidays? Any that you only play during the holidays?

The NES for me. My parents and sister had a NES when I was growing up, and many of the first games I played were Super Mario Brothers 1 and 3, TMNT, Gyromite and more. Oh Rad Racer is another that comes to mind. I sucked at as a kid, but my sister was a pro at rad racer when I was growing up. That would actually be my first console ever as well.

It's not much of an upgrade to be honest. All the OLED screen offers is a bigger screen that looks nicer. I don't think it provides a better image quality or anything else. I'm still waiting for them to release a 4K switch. I'm starting to think that's not going to end up happening.

Wasn't the last official release back in 2014 with Tropical Freeze? I know that was re-released for the Switch in 2018, but I don't think we've since had a new Donkey Kong Country game on the switch. Maybe it's time we get a new Donkey Kong Country game. What would you hope to see in a new game?

I mean, think about it, with the architecture of the new xbox consoles they should be able to support VR headsets like the Oculus, Vive and others. And I could have sworn that Microsoft was teaming up with Oculus going forward for their virtual reality needs. What ever happened to that? I just think it'd be easy considering the consoles are pretty much built like a PC anyway.

Has anyone here ever achieved first place on a speedrun leaderboard? I was going to make another topic in regards to this, but figured I'd post this question here instead. I myself have never made 1st in a speedrun, but I have never tried to do one either. I don't know if I'd even try, my patience just wouldn't be in it. Same with speedruns that require you to break the game to finish it faster. I don't have the patience for learning all of this tricks. I think https://www.speedrun.com/ is where you can track your scores and be put on the leaderboards.

I know right? It'd be so cool to see PS home back on the PS4 and 5 as well. But I doubt Sony would bother with doing that. It was, it felt like a real hub the brief times I messed with it. I think it would do well if it was brought back honestly. I think people would like a hub world like that again.

With the San Andreas remasters on the 360, (not sure if it released for the PS3) was actually the mobile version of the game, just modified to work on the newer consoles at the time. The newer trilogy is still the mobile versions, with updated stuff. They even had the mobile game controls still in the code for San Andreas and I guess you could even select them through settings. You can read about that here - https://exputer.com/news/playstation/rockstar-games-mobile-gta-trilogy/

That's partly why I stopped playing in the past. A lot of the past games I've played got hacked to oblivion, like Modern Warfare 2. I got so fed up with the hackers breaking the game, that I stopped playing that game. I was surprised Modern Warfare 3 was mostly free of hackers, at least when I played. But I can see most of the games dealing with annoying hackers yet. And I heard Warzone was bad with hackers. Didn't they like ban well over a millions players for suspected hacking and cheating?

What are some games like Teardown? Teardown is a voxel style game with destruction mechanics, and you use those mechanics to pull off heists. The destruction is fairly realistic, and takes physics in mind, at least as best as a voxel game can. There's also a sandbox mode where you can just mess around on maps, with even custom maps and mods added in for the fun. Trailer is below if interested. My nephew wanted me to get it so I did, I didn't expect to also get into it though, but it's a lot of fun. It does run a bit slow on my PC if too much stuff goes on, but it's fun to just mess around in the sandbox mode. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1167630/Teardown/ Do you guys know of games similar to this, where you can destroy stuff in this way? I'm open to suggestions for games like it. 👍

Oh yeah, especially with WWE, as November alone they got rid of a ton of wrestlers. So 2K's work on all those wrestlers is all for nothing, as they will likely be removed from the game completely, unless WWE hires any of them back. But yeah, I hope each of their upcoming games are good. AEW needs to prove themselves more than anything, but they do have Yukes working on it so I have some hope. WWE with 2K is a bit more scary, because I worry they will ruin it with microtransactions and I won't be able to make the created wrestlers I want to make.
-
Oh of course. There's no chance of this happening, but my hopes no lie with the possibility of new games being made with the Aki engine. if that happens, I could see fans clamoring for a new wrestling game. It doesn't have to be a WWE game either, could be an independent thing with just the controls. I heard the AEW game may be utilizing the aki engine, if that's the case, I'm sold.

This is mostly just for curiosity. I know that some people use virtual machines to surf the web more safely, and to also have more privacy. Of course I think a VPN would do a better job at the privacy part, but a VM. Anyway, would gaming on a virtual machine work as long as the PC you're using has enough allocated for the VM? Plus to my knowledge, a new VM can be made if any viruses break through, but I don't see that happening. I have no plans to do scam baiting or anything like that. Anyway, is it worth it to game on a virtual machine?

I've heard that the recent Far Cry is much of the same, with a similar style story with a villain that doesn't show up that often. I haven't played a whole lot of Far Cry, mainly because I just can't seem to get into it. I loved Blood Dragon a ton, because the music, atmosphere and controls were great. I tried to play some of the other games after, but I couldn't get invested. I've heard some people complain that the game doesn't do anything new, and even takes away things from the last game. I can't judge myself, because I have yet to play the new game, but to me, it sounds much like the past few games with some minor changes here and there. But, this is for the fans who play to answer. Is Far Cry still worth playing? Or do you think it's time they change the series up a bit and go into a different direction?

VR gaming is growing in popularity with each new advancement in VR head tech. We have the likes of Oculus, PS VR, and other VR headsets on the market, with more trying to jump into the fray every year. I think Microsoft still has their headset in the works, but who knows if that will ever release. PS VR is a great budget option if you own a PS4 or PS5, and PC has a slew of options available to them. And mobile has their options as well if that's your thing. Could Nintendo be next to join VR? I know they tried doing the VR headset thing with the switch, but I don't count that. I want real VR with the switch. Or maybe they could do it with a future release. What other companies could jump in you think?

The recent GTA Trilogy remastered set was a mess at release, and it's still somewhat broken after the recent fixes it got. It's clear the team behind the remaster, didn't have enough time to make the best remaster they could. Rockstar needs to let their side studios work for as long as needed, because when a game gets released in this state, it looks even worse on Rockstar, who prides themselves on making quality. Anyway, it's not just that. Remember the first attempt Activision made remastering Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? Yeah, it was so bad that they eventually tried it again with the recent THPS1+2 Remastered, which was leaps above the first remaster they did. I think the problem lies with the big studios dropping these remasters in the laps of unknown devs, or studios that have limited work. I believe the people behind the trilogy set for GTA were also responsible for the mobile remasters, which is why I think they just remastered the mobile games and made fixes here and there. I think we need to afford developers the time needed to make these remasters as best they can. They will likely be doing GTA IV remastered next, and they need to make sure that one goes well.

I know not really gaming related, but it relates to Xbox, so I hope it's fine. The Xbox Series X Mini Fridge came out a while ago, and was scooped up by scalpers of course. The thing released for like $100 and all it is, is a 12 can mini fridge with an Xbox design. I also hear that the fridge was kinda loud for some. If it ever drops in price, maybe I'll get it for the novelty of it, but I am not spending anywhere near $100 for it, and with the scalpers pushing the price up, I will have to wait on it. Plus, I think you can get a bigger mini-fridge for around the same price as this, so really it's meant for Xbox Fans. Also, I guess it can fit a series X into it, so there's that. Honestly, I would have rather had this fridge instead:

When it comes to gaming, we're either using a controller or a mouse and keyboard. I have gamed mostly on consoles for the majority of my life, but since I got my first gaming PC built, I haven't really looked back. Well, I still use controllers on PC. But I found I use keyboard more often than I used to and have been considering switching to mouse and keyboard more often. But, have you ever had a hard time going back to a controller once you use a mouse and keyboard exclusively for a while? I feel like I would never stop using controllers for some games, but I'm starting to realize that maybe some games are best with a mouse and keyboard. First person shooters are probably best with a mouse and keyboard, and I think I'm finally going to make that change. Anyway, if you ever go back to using a controller, do you ever find it hard going back to playing that way? Or do you usually get used to it again faily quickly?

I know I talk a lot of crap about EA, but they are kinda deserving. I used to enjoy Madden, because it was at least a bearable football game when it wanted to be. But these days it's becoming a lazy mound of its former self. I honestly want a good football game, because I'm a fan of football. Is it too much to ask for a quality football game? EA has allowed their developers to drop the ball on production of Madden, and it shows with each new game. They just put a little bit of makeup on for each new release and call it a day. I just want to play a football game that works and plays like football. I know the NFL is aware of the hate their game gets. So why is it that they aren't listening to any of the feedback? I think I blame it on the gaming reviewers from big publications who are lazy and always give these maddens fair to good reviews. So maybe the NFL sees those and thinks they are fine. Because sure, they're making good money from this game. But imagine if these devs actually put the work into the games to improve upon them instead. What if they started showed 10/10 reviews because they actually worked on the game. EA isn't capable of changing because people still put money down for Madden yearly. But, what if EA was not the license holder anymore, and it was a free for all for who could take over developing/publishing rights? What studios could you see coming out on top? I could see 2K being an option, but that's one devil for another. Personally, I think the NFL should start their own development studio to make their own Madden. They could afford it easily, and it would mean all that cash from it would go to them. Of course this means no other studios can make it, but maybe having it under their own studio, would mean they would bring out the best product. What do you think?

From the likes of WWF No Mercy, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WCW Vs nWo World Tour, and WCW/nWo Revenge, I would love to see them remastered into one game. I know this will never happen sadly, because of licensing mostly (music, wrestlers, images, etc). But It would be a dream to see this series remastered into one set, re-utilizing the Aki engine to get the best of it all. And they could update the graphics if they want. But it doesn't have to be like new games today. I know that some fans are keeping this game alive with mods through emulation. And maybe I will look into that and give that a go, but I honestly just want to revisit these classics on modern hardware, so that it runs even better. And playing with friends again would be fun too. Anyway, maybe instead of a remaster, we could see a new game made with the Aki engine in mind. Like I said above, some modders are making new wrestlers and creating new arenas and more in some of these games. But, I think it would be great to see a brand new game instead, so that we can show new fans what these games were like. But yeah, I'll continue dreaming elsewhere. 😄

I grew up in the 90s, and didn't get to experience freeware and shareware like people in the 80s and 90s did. I had a commodore 64 in the 90s, that had a bunch of games on floppy disks, some that were likely copied by the previous owner before we got the PC. I don't remember most of the games we had sadly, but I'm sure there was some freeware/shareware games in the mix. For those wondering what freeware and shareware was, shareware is essentially a game copy, which sometime included legal freeware and sometimes illegal copied games. Back then you could copy a game and send it off to your friend. I don't recall if there was much fight about it, but it happened. Often you'd see floppys with written labels stating what games are on it. Kinda like how VHS tapes were. That's how games got out there as well. Freeware was just free games, but I think some copyrighted games were released this way and it was legal somehow. I don't know. That's just a guess. I sadly tossed all the games I had for my C64 years ago, and regret it 100%, because I'm sure there would have been someone out there who could have used them. My C64 died eventually anyway, and I have no way of fixing it and honestly don't feel like buying another one for it to also die out. Plus, there are sites that legally list C64 and other games online to play for free. So having a C64 or older PC, isn't really a requirement anymore. Everything can be done with emulation these days. Anyway, I'm looking for some of the freeware and shareware games that released, but have since been forgotten. Ones that were good, but never saw the light of day. I want to play more classic PC games, especially on the C64, as want to see if I can find any of the games I played as a kid. Plus, I just want to experience all these games that came before me, as I know I only scratched the barrel of games I've played in my lifetime.

Yeah true. I just hope to never see it in on consoles on even on PC. Keep it to mobile if anything. Because once it hits consoles, kids will find a way to abuse it somehow. There was this game I used to play to get prizes, but it wasn't worth it. You'd get some cheap priced thing from Amazon for completing challenges and stuff. Was a waste of time, kinda like lottery. 😄 And yeah, if they were to do gambling video games, they would have to require some kind of ID check to play. Only fair in my opinion. I couldn't see any games being passed without some kind of ID check for people who play.

Also, one other thing I forgot to mention, was how easier retro games have become on modern consoles, especially the switch. I remember when my nephew was over with his Switch a while back, and he was playing SMB3 on it, and everytime he failed, he'd use the rewind feature to take him back. I told him we didn't have the choice back in the day on the NES. I thought it was cheating, or just lazy, and he didn't seem to care lol. But yeah, they're even making retro games easier with the use of emulation, so there's that.
