Sometimes sure. I like to explore and see the world, so there are times where I'm in the middle of a mission and I go off to do something else. Whether it be GTA V, RDR2, or any other open world game, you'll usually find me mucking around in the world trying to find hidden things and to just explore. Also open the map for some games this way. But yeah, there are many games I've procrastinated in just because I felt like it. Sometimes I don't do a mission for days or weeks and I just mess around in the world. I do it a lot with open world games.

Did you happen to watch Chappie and that show Upload recently? :D I was reminded of that movie show right when you mentioned uploading ones psyche into a robot, machine or computer. I think the idea of uploading your psyche to something to live in, is cool. But in reality, you're not living on technically, it's just another version of you, a copy essentially. I don't think it would ever be possible to move our current selves into some computer, or robot body. We may be able to copy our brains, but I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we could transfer our current selves into it. Because if it's essentially a copy, the person you are now, won't be experiencing any of this afterlife, instead your copied over psyche or subconscious would be. If it were possible to put my actual brain, in a machine to live on, that would be far more appealing to me, since I would technically live on. But otherwise, I'd just be creating another version of me. Sure it could be cool to leave behind for a family member or friend, but I'd much rather to live on than have a version of me live on. But if there is a way to put my brain in a virtual world, and mimic real life, that would be awesome.

Wow, my current PC setup may not be able to handle some future games if this becomes the norm. According the Steam page for Returnal, it recommends 32GB of RAM. The minimum specs I should be able to match, but it's starting to look like I might need to update a little, maybe just RAM, but still, just shows how big games are going to get going forwards, and I fear I will have to update a PC in the next year or two if I really want to take advantage of the games dropping in the future. Read more about this here: https://wccftech.com/returnal-pc-requirements-detailed-no-crossplay-with-ps5/ Are you going to be able to get the PC version? Or will you just pick up the PS5 version?

Are parents ultimately responsible for what their kids play?
Kane99 replied to aerodynamik's topic in Gaming Forum
Of course. Parents are responsible for anything their child has access to, whether it be movies, tv, gaming, access to a PC, etc. Growing up, I always tried to watch R rated movies, play M rated games and so on. And for the most part, my parents allowed it. I don't think it had any affect on me mentally, or made me want to do bad things like the news outlets try to paint gamers as, or have in the past. But as I have gotten older, there are some games I played and movies I saw as a kid, that I probably wouldn't suggest kids play or watch. -
How much are you willing to pay for remasters and remakes?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Depends on the game and how long it was before they got a remaster/remake. If it's an older game, I'm more accepting to a higher price, because I think it's fine to remake something that's 10+ years old. But when it was just released a couple years ago, and they're trying to get full price on a simple re-skin, then nah. I think most remasters should go for around $30. If it's just a re-skin especially. But if it's a remake of a game, I could say maybe $50-$60 or so. At this point we'll probably see it hit $70. But a remake makes sense to pay more since it's not the same game with a re-skin. They add more to it, update it, change the controls, character models, animations etc. That's when I can see reason to paying more than $30. -
Hmm, I'd say the story between Lee and Clementine in The Walking Dead. It's one of my favorite stories about friendship, the fact that it ends in such a depressing way really sells it even more. I think Niko and Roman Bellick as friends is great. Lets go bowling eh?

Has a video game ever helped you explain something IRL?
Kane99 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I can't say I have ever really used video games to explain things in real life. Well scratch that, maybe with the Madden games. I think at one point I argued with a friend about how in the game when you kick a field goal on any down aside from 4th, that you get the ball back and lose a down. But I don't think that's the case in real football. Or maybe I'm thinking of another game, idk. But I swear there was something like this in earlier madden games. -
Dead Island 2 Delayed yet again, releases April 28th 2023

New trailer just dropped, looks really good. -
Sounds like Microsoft are opening up the COD franchise to more than just PlayStation, as they're not working on bringing COD back to the Nintendo brand. It's clear MS know what they're doing, and that's getting that money. Now with Nintendo on the boards to getting a COD of their own, maybe now we can see COD grace all consoles once again. Also, it's being said that they're also keeping their deal with Steam to keep COD on steam as well. I honestly didn't expect it, but it seems like Phil Spencer really wants to make right by supporting more than just Xbox.

I feel like we've discussed this here before in another topic. But for me it's either the 90s, or around the 2010s. The 90s because I grew up in the time, and got to experience the NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, and more growing up. But in the 2000s is when I started to really get into gaming. So idk, the 2000s are also a good time for me, because the PS2 was what my jam was back then. Then of course the 360 came out around 2005 or so and I remember playing a lot of that into the 2010s. I'd say the 90s this time around. I probably said 2010 or so, because of Red Dead Redemption 1. But I forget. 90s and early 2000s probably. :D

That's fair. Getting into retro gaming is very hard to do these days. From having to find the consoles, the games, and possibly a tv to play them on (HDTVs are fine, but CRT TVs are better). As well, you have to worry about the prices, as retro games are going up in prices, especially NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. Mostly retro games. Emulation is a great way to play the games you never got to. I had a raspberry pi with an emulator on it, but it recently died on me. One of these days I'll buy a new raspberry pi and make another emulation station.

I don't see a handheld being announced, but with the way the market is going and how more companies are getting into handheld hardware, it's always a possibility Xbox and others may jump into the handheld market too. I've said it before, the popularity of the Switch and the Steam Deck has to be giving Sony and Microsoft ideas about the possibility. I don't know if Sony would try their hands at making a new handheld, but maybe Microsoft. I think if it were to happen, it'd be another generation off, maybe after this generation of consoles.

Candy Crush is so old, it's one of those mobile apps that has been around forever, probably around the time smartphones started, though I may be wrong on that. It's just been around for a long time. I remember when it became popular with the kids, old people started to like it and I think that turned kids off from it haha. I remember playing it a little bit, but I didn't think it was that impressive. It's a fine game, just don't think I'll ever play it again.

Yeah the novelty of it started to ware off for me. Back when the 360 came out, there was a few games with some easy achievements. I remember a NBA 2k6 or something that dropped that gave you an easy 1000G just from playing one game. Each achievement was huge too, like 100 for some, 200 for others and I think a big one for like 500G. Then games started to add tons more small achievements. I used to grab as many as I could when I played, but these days you have to do so much for some achievements, that I sometimes just pass on some of them lol. Also, some games you can't even get 100% since some were online only achievements. I remember achievements hunters throwing fits about that. :D

Yeah I heard some of the voice actors are guest starring as other characters. I'm really glad they did that. Kinda wonder who else they will have hidden in the cast who were a part of the games. Wonder if any devs/producers were part of the background cast.

Is shipping unfinished games the future of gaming? 😥
Kane99 replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming Forum
It's just sad that studios still do it, and will continue to do it for years to come probably forever. I hate that almost every big release now suffers from some major problems at release. And they always promise to fix the issues. Well shit, it shouldn't have released in that state. Why is it that these studios have all these QA testers and yet we have some games come out broken beyond repair? Every time I see a new release flop because of technical issues, bugs etc, I always think it's going to be the last one, and studios will start to shape up again, and then another game comes out a broken mess, and then another, and we get used to it. Another thing is, studios know we'll wait for them to fix the problems, so I think they know they can release pretty much an early access game as finished, with the hopes that they can fix the errors later. That's the now, where we're going to keep getting early access games, hardly finished and then we're expected to wait for said games to be fixed & improved over the years. That's how it's starting to look to me. -
Because you're an adult who is being smart with your money. I wait a long time before I get a new console, mainly because I can't afford most of them, and secondly because I don't feel I need a new console right away. And right now, things are in a nosedive, with inflation being an issue, it's kinda hard to push the button on buying expensive toys essentially. And I'm good with my PC and what it offers.

Source - https://gamerant.com/xbox-controller-lcd-display-microsoft-patent/?utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_source=GR-FB-P&utm_campaign=GR-FB-P Image: It looks like Xbox may be getting a new controller with an LCD display, and I'm all for that. This will only be a standard LCD screen to tell you if the controller is paired to a device. Not sure that would really be needed, but if they have other options with it, that'd be cool. Like a health bar, or something similar to what the 3DS/Wii U did. Or they could use it like how the Dreamcast controller used those VMUs. They told you details about the game, so I could see that being a reality for a new Xbox controller. What do you guys think?

Yeah I enjoyed the destructiveness of the game. Surprising ahead of its time imo. But that boss battle I stopped at made me mad haha. I'm pretty sure I still have a save file, but it's that boss battle and idk I if I can put myself through that again lol. Same here. I haven't played Sekiro, but it did remind me of the rooftop moments of Tenchu. I remember playing the original Tenchu on PS1 back in the day, and having a blast jumping onto roofs and jumping on enemies. But I always sucked at these games lol.

With the recent release of The Callisto Protocol being marred by poor performance and other issues, it made me wonder about all the other games that have been coming out broken messes. If feels like we get more and more broken games at release and at this point it feels never-ending. It's like games like God of War come out pristine with minimal issues, but then you get games that are released in clearly unfinished states, and it seems to be happening more and more these days. What can we do as gamers to stop this? I am all for studios taking as much time as they need to make a game. But I don't want devs to rush a game, release it and then say "oh we'll get these problems fixed and to a point where we want it". But it should never get to that point. Studios should be striving to make their games as playable and unbroken as possible. It's tiring to hear that yet another game has arrived to mixed reviews because of the poor quality of game at release. I know voicing our opinions has done nothing at this point, people are clearly fed up, and studios keep doing it. Do you think this will ever change? Or will we be stuck in this new routine?

Back when I got my 360, I tried to get every achievement possible. Now days I still kinda hunt for achievements, but I don't go full force and try to get all of them. I play a game, beat it and if there are any easy achievements, I'll maybe try for them, otherwise I just quit and move on to the next game. I don't need to get every achievement in a game. My current Xbox gamescore is 130,206. At this point I don't really care if I get most achievements. I just focus on having fun and finishing a game.
-
I got Fall Guys when it came out because I thought it'd be fun to get a group of friends together to play, but instead I ended up hating it. I sucked at the game as well, so there was that. Whenever I got close to the end, I'd mess up. I think all the games I played, I only won one game total. It's not easy to win, that's for sure. And I just get more frustrated playing it than I do having fun.

I don't currently own any of the current PS consoles, at least not any that had the trophy system. If I did own a PS3, PS4 or PS5, I like to think I'd hunt for some of those trophies. Plus, me having to start from scratch, is going to be weird. But hey, that's life. I got way more achievements on Xbox than anywhere else.

I remember getting the greatest hits version of the first game on PS2. I couldn't get into it back then. I think it was the setting, the control style and a few other things that turned me off to it. I haven't played the series since sadly. I remember a friend coming over and nearly beating it for me because I didn't want to play it lol.
-
I mostly played the first one, don't recall if I ever played the sequels. I remember playing the first one with my brother, sister and friends quite a bit, but I wasn't very good at them. Then again I'm not very good at most beat'm'ups like that.
