RL is the worst game ever. But what are the rules?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
The rules of games are simple that's why we can know the exact path to success. The rules of reality are vastly complex, some of which we hadn't even begun to understand. So obviously we can't have the easy formula for success. p.s.: Besides games have clear goals, what is the goal in reality? You set your own goals, and thus you are always in control of your own success. -
Would you rather know everything or be amazing at any activity you tried?

I expected nothing less from you, than a personal attack yet again. You obviously understood what I meant, yet you insisted on taking it in the worst possible way. You did notice the qualifier "kind of" did you not? Yet you proceeded to ignore it. Knowing cannot replace practice, that was the gist of the point I was making. For example I know perfectly well how to weld, but I have no practice in it, so if I tried to weld right now it wouldn't turn out very good, despite knowing welding. The OP wasn't very elaborate I interpreted it as knowing how things work, not knowing literally everything, as in every bit of information available, no matter how obscure or irrelevant. If you really thought that's what I meant then again you are disrespecting me. Either way if you can do naught but attack me, then please leave me alone. -

I already kind of know everything. I have a keen understanding of anything technical and even in fields completely new to me I can deduce how things work within minutes. Give me 10 minutes on a technical subject and I'll be instructing others who get stuck. That said if you think knowing a process in theory translates to being able to do it in practice you are gravely mistaken. Most jobs take years of practice and accumulated experience to be proficient at. I may have a head start by instantly understanding everything, but that still means there is a learning curve. I don't shy away from doing anything, but the first attempt will probably take me 3-4x time if not more than it would take someone who does it for a living. As for the quality it is mostly limited by the tools available, I mean most jobs need specialized tools without which I can only do so much. -
No, it's not about hoarding resources. It is a specific incompatibility between certain anti virus software and the game. Probably because of the invasive DRM included.
-
Call of Duty infinite warfare wouldn't run properly, it kept crashing or running very poorly with stuttering. Turning off anti-virus software was the fix.
-
What NPC you wish you could erase from existence. As if they never existed in the first place in the game. There is always one who annoys you the most, who drives you nuts, whose existence is a thorn in your side.
-
Of course relationships with other characters can make a game better. Or much worse for that matter, for example Johhny Silverhand made cyberpunk 2077 almost unbearable for me. I mean actions should have the expected outcome, if a game is set up to not be realistic it should still follow its own established rules.
-
Protagonist The most important thing to me is to be able to identify with the protagonist. No, having the same skin color / gender / orientation as me has nothing to do with it. I mean that they must be likeable, relatable, and most importantly have goals that I think are worth pursuing, the rest is superficial. Setting No matter how good or relatable the hero is, if the game is set in an uninteresting, or restrictive environment it won't work. Realism It is important that the game follows basic laws of physics in all departments. Eg: having a motorcycle engine powered minigun is no bueno (yes I'm referring to far cry 6) Also weapons should have the expected stopping power, so no bullet sponge nonsense. I want limbs flying and minced meat after an explosion, not enemies emerging from the blast unscathed or getting up after two magazines were emptied into them. Let alone surviving headshots.
-
LOL, Duh. That's the exact point. I'd rather play games than watch someone else play them.
-
That's the reason I don't like watching other people play. It drives me crazy when they do the exact opposite of what I'd do. Or when they don't realize something and keep doing something wrong, not even morally, just a game mechanic or feature.

What are some things that are more fun in video games than real life?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Dying. Not that I've tried it but I bet it's really no fun in real life. Getting shot. Same deal. Golf - It would be terribly boring irl -
What game do you want to see remastered the most?
m76 replied to The Blackangel's topic in Gaming Forum
DeusEx, of course. -
Do you situate your console horizontally or vertically?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Used to have it horizontal, switched to vertical when I moved my console from my PC to another room. Even if it would fall over the floor is padded as it is in my "recreational" room which also has gym equipment hence the padded floor. -
Do you ever create/set your own challenges in games?
m76 replied to The Blackangel's topic in Gaming Forum
More like goals than challenges. But I usually loose track and just go wherever the game takes me in the moment. I enjoy mini challenges. Like trying to drive to missions in gta without crashing. I'm also often stubborn in games, when I encounter enemies far above my character's level I never back down, I'll try and use any exploit and trick in the book to defeat them. And about 9 out 10 times I'll succeed. -
Is there a legislation that specifically says black schools and communities should get less funding? No, they are victims of various circumstances, and it is these circumstances that should be addressed. That's what I was suggesting all along. Declaring that institutions are racist does not help anyone in any way shape or form. The lead in the water is also a symptom of impoverished neighbourhoods, where I assume lead piping is still installed in the infrastructure. Which is a crying shame if true and should be addressed immediately instead of trying to declare the water supply racist, or some such meaningless statement. Now we are getting somewhere. They are underfunded because there is higher crime rate, which drives away business, so there is no investment, no development there. And what is the BLM / CRT solution? Defund the police. Yeah, that should do it! I don'T know if it's malice or just misguidedness. but they are deepening the issues not helping them. Even the founder of BLM has moved to a white neighborhood to escape the crime, so if the safest place for a BLM activist is a white neighborhood we can't talk about racism and racially motivated violence and discrimination as the problem can we? What is stopping democratic cities from giving equal funding to those schools? There is nothing in the way. The problem is that democratic politicians are no better than any other. They virtue signal all day long while they are not in office, but then do nothing to solve the issue (see also, biden and the border). I'm all for equal opportunity, but it seems to me that BLM and CRT advocates for equity, which translates to "give me all your shit now or else" Yes, many different reasons. Of which racism is a very tiny if even measurable contributor. Releasing prisoners who actually committed crimes won't solve the problems of black neighbourhoods. It's already an issue that they made a martyr out of a petty criminal. Not saying he deserved to die, but painting him as a saint and an example of a victim of racism does not help anyone, especially not the black communities. I see it as a poverty problem, and as a culture problem. A trailer trash white kid has no better chance of going into college than a black kid from the hood. It's not racial. And when people make it about that I think that helps nobody. I did not see an actionable plan by any of the advocacy groups that would actually help. All they say is if you are white you are automatically racist and have privilege. Which kind of seems scapegoating to me. And I'm sorry but I have to go there: This is the exact same kind of scapegoating that the nazi party did before WWII "Hey germans, all your problems are caused by the jews" Now BLM: "Hey black people, all your problems are caused by whiteness" I don't know how this helps, but it will sure fuel division and can even cause racism to re-ignite, which I Think was mostly pushed to the fringes by the 80s - 90s. You raid the capitol you are committing a crime, just as the people who loot and destroy property in the guise of a protest. I'm the last person who would say that if you are poor you are lazy. Because I know how much of a role luck has in success. That's why I find personal cults highly suspect. When they praise people for being successful. Successful people are just as much of a victim of circumstance as poor people. Being at the right place at the right time, to get the opportunity. The only privilege is being born into wealth. But CRT would say that the kids of Will Smith are less privileged than any white kid due to historic racism. Which is utter nonsense. You want to help blacks you need to look into poverty, not into racism. Because their problems are not causes by racism. For example single parent black families were much fewer before the civil rights movement. So if racism is the real issue that would mean America is more racist now than it was in the sixties. That just does not add up to me.

I ask you again. Explain how thinking that blacks or other minorities are incapable of competing with with people of the US on a level playing field is not racist. I'm not putting anything out there I'm stating observable facts. Not everybody except me, but every white person who thinks they need to save black people in the US by discriminating against other white people. Remember I'm not from the US, I'm a completely independent observer of the lunacy that is unfolding in the US. I'm neither democrat nor republican. When it comes down to actual policy I side with democrats on most things except this. Again with this strawman? You tried this already and I told you that I referred to them as protecting and justifying looting, not as being looters themselves. Show me an example of racism on an instituional level. You can't. Because institutions are not racist. Or engrained. LOL you are preaching about a mythical phenomenon that everybody should accept on faith and nothing else. Show me one circumstance where black people are not given equal opportunity. Just one. The only way it can happen is if a rule is applied in bad faith by a racist individual! But that is not systemic racism, that's one individual, which I was talking about all along. That sounds like you are calling me out for blasphemy. Actually you are the one who is prejudiced because you assume every institution is racist and we need affirmative action to make them not racist. I'm not saying there is nothing wrong, there are plenty of things wrong in the US, but none of it is caused by racism on institutional levels. What evidence? There was zero evidence of racism engrained in institutions put forward. You mean the one, that 100% proves me right? The law is banning theories from being taught in schools that say: (1) Any race is inherently superior or inferior to any other race, color, or national origin. (2) The United States is a fundamentally racist country. (3) The Declaration of Independence or Constitution of the United States are fundamentally racist documents. (4) An individual’s moral character or worth is determined by the individual’s race, color, or national origin. (5) An individual, by virtue of the individual’s race, is inherently racist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously. (6) An individual, because of the individual’s race, bears responsibility for the actions committed by other members of the individual’s race, color, or national origin. I 100% agree with banning anything from being taught that fulfils these criteria. No person should be disadvantaged due to their group identity, or be in an advantageous position due to it. This bill literally wants to ban racial prejudice. How can you interpret this any other way? Again. You are trying to conflate institutional racism (myth) with actual racism (fact). It is very disingenuous. I didn't call out racism on this forum because I never seen it take place here. Which is a good thing, and I assume you'd moderate any actual racist remarks anyway.

What game were you hoping to see at E3 2021 that wasn’t there?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Test Drive Solar Crown -
What sidestep? The content of the articles was not the topic, I asked citation for "banning the teaching and talk of historic racism" And since the first one provided the proof that I needed that this is not about historic racism, I felt no need to check out the other articles. But if you wish I can address them paragraph by paragraph, but why would you ask me to do that? That's exactly what the religious say about god. More and more parallels emerge with religion. I'm sorry but the burden of proof is on the CRT people (I hate that abbreviation because to me CRT means Cathode Ray Tube) And I've seen no definite proof of it. Lack of equity is not proof of discrimination, feminism proved that beyond any reasonable doubt. As it turns out women when given complete freedom to do whatever they want are even less inclined to go into positions and industries that are supposedly discriminatory towards females. And here we go again, with the ad hominems. It does not make your case stronger, au contraire. I don't understand, you don't even seem to be addressing my words here. I said I'm fully for teaching historic racism, it would be a crime not to teach historic facts. But critical race theory is not a historic fact, it is a modern day misrepresentation and scapegoating of history for current day outcomes. I've heard about young earth creationism taught as a valid theory. I've seen many people who would want that to be taught as fact. Science has the answer for both the why and how, religion tries to give meaning and agency to nature, so individuals can feel more important. I can't help you understand what I'm saying. People who think minorities will always come out as losers against white people unless the playing field is slanted in their favor are being racist. That's not my opinion, that is the definition of racism. Thinking minorities less capable of succeeding on their own merits, what would you call that if not racism? I see it is a superiority complex. I assume in order to call out racism you need to think it exists in the first place. It would be weird to call it out while not thinking it is real. It exists becauase it exists? Not a very compelling argument you have there. Look, I accept the fact that you are convinced that systemic racism exists. I'm trying to convince you that what you see is not actually a result of a mythical invisible racism, but a variety of social, economical, and cultural realities. The sooner you accept the real reason for disparity the sooner you can address the actual issues instead of searching for the boogeyman of racism hidden in non racist institutions and laws. Exactly, pretending a mythical creature is keeping minorities down only allows the problems to get worse. You can't stamp out prejudice until the other issues are solved. If 90% of a certain group lives in ghettos assuming an individual from this group might be from a ghetto is not prejudice, it is survival instinct at work. You cannot eradicate people's survival instinct. That's rich when you are defending the group who labels people as racists for mentioning certain facts. You did not present any facts or mentioned any mistakes that we should be avoiding. I'm beginning to suspect you don't really now what's a fact. Thinking something exists doesn't make it a fact. If it means preventing nonsense like critical race theory from becoming the norm, then I'm proud to be standing in the way. As soon as you mention any actual mistakes or imperfections that I'm guilty of I can address them, but so far you only present empty rhetoric. Nice pivot there from one thing to another. I'm fully aware that racism is real, I've seen racists and I'm constantly appalled by their behaviour and remarks. And I'd fight any actual racist individual to the bitter end. Systemic racism however is not real, anyone who signs up to it is doing a disservice to the communities they are purportedly trying to defend. Critical race theory was born out of a refusal to acknowledge inconvenient facts and realities. So they created a bogeyman to lay all inequity at the feet of people who doesn't have a racist bone in them. I speak out against actual racism, and not throw around the world lightly to make it loose its meaning. If everything and everybody is racist, then nothing is. You are diluting the meaning of the word if you make everything racist by default.
-
Critical race theory is not historic racism. I said there was twisting of facts here, and the very first article confirms my suspicion 100%. BTW that guardian article is not news reporting it is an asinine opinion piece. Imagine teaching something that is not based on reality but the perception of some racially (or otherwise) biased individuals, who judge people by superficialities and not their individual contributions to society. Teaching critical race theory equals to teaching religious beliefs as facts. Because critical race theory is only a belief nothing more. A belief that if there is no equity between races that must mean that there is discrimination, and even trying to look for other explanations for the lack of equity is racist. If we can't find any law that is actually discriminatory, then it must be the application of non-discriminatory law that is discriminatory! Everything, but the examination of individual responsibility. Accepting critical race theory equals accepting that people of different races cannot be treated as equals. Which is basically racism. And treating people from different races differently is unfair, that is why I'll never support it.

I'd like to read those proposed bills. Because I find it completely unfathomable what you say. A bill banning talking about historic racism? I don't believe that for a moment. Someone is twisting facts here. As for "current racism" by which I Assume you talk about systemic/institutional racism, I say good riddance. That's not fact, and schools should only teach facts, not opinions. Talk about indoctrination at a young age.

Do you like reality TV shows? Why or why not? If so, which ones?
m76 replied to killamch89's topic in Movies & TV
The worst is that now documentaries are recorded in the style of reality shows as well. Adding idiotic fake drama to it like every day on a particular job is a life or death fight. I freaking hate it. -
I have no problems with paying for car repair, it is a legitimate service you pay for, you get something for your money. What I resent paying for is parking at paid events. If I'm already paying a hefty fee for attending the event, don't make me pay an additional fee, just for going there. I once went to an event, and said fuck it and drove right back home when I realized they were asking for parking fees (which was not advertised on the event pages). Thankfully I did not pre-purchase my ticket so I could do that without hassle. What I also find atrocious is duties and taxes when I order something from abroad on amazon / etc. The VAT is not just levied on the goods themselves. but also the postage fees and duties. So for example if I order something for $100 and they charge $20 for packaging and postage, then I end up paying $170 for it in the end. Now that's a highway robbery.

To me it is hands down Death Stranding Director's cut. Wasn't the original game already made by Kojima? This smells like a shameless cash grab. Any new feature they add should've been an update to the original and not a completely new release. Only Kojima would have this kind of hubris, and he is probably the only one who can get away with it scot-free.

What games are you most excited for from E3 2021?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Probably Starfield is the only game I'm excited for -
Once I saw a documentary about him and it really showed what kind of person he is. He is the type who hoards money not because of a particular goal, but just for the sake of it. He is like Dexter Morgan, pretends to be a regular human but probably is a sociopath. If I were an amazon employee I'd probably not want him back either. But to be fair working conditions are awful in other big companies warehouses as well not just amazon's.
