I said the exact same thing in another paragraph and how it pisses me off when people cry wolf at that. They seem to think that everyone wants a reflection of themselves in games, which is an outrageous assumption. They think a black person cannot enjoy a game unless the hero of the game is also black. And other minorities as well. And this goes beyond the gaming industry into all of the entertainment industry. It's kind of ironic that they think they fight against racism by assuming every minority is racist and every woman sexist, etc. There is no campaign, it's just individuals speaking up, but they are immediately shut down regardless of the criticism's validity. That's where the problem lies, said discrimination issues are not real, they are not backed up by any real world statistic, it's disregarding reality. If I see a representation of that of course I get upset, because it paints a biased and harmful image that itself fuels division and hate. As I've said these issues do not exist in reality in the way it is represented in the media and in entertainment. There are racist cops for sure, but the police as an institution is not racist. The complete nutjobs who want to "defund the police" are anarchists. Representing these ideas as reality is very harmful. We have just almost moved beyond race and now some are outright advocating for segregation. The creators of fiction themselves declare numerous times that they don't care about the IP, they just see it as platform to "speak out about issues". A game's hero should be heroic, a character we look up to, what we aspire to be. If heroes can be fat, overweight, out of shape, uncharismatic, then what's the point? I'm sorry, but I do want good looking inspirational and charismatic heroes. If they had said they wanted to make costumes in MK more realistic and applied that equally to all characters that is a defensible position. But applying it selectively to sexy female outfits is sheer hypocrisy and that bothers me. I admit that is the reason why I never purchased MK11, because of the dismissive attitude. Why can't the game have both and let the player choose which they want? I might even have chosen the more covered up version myself. You need two parties to have a controversy. And the instigators in this case are clearly the developers. They knew their fanbase, and they knew their expectations, yet they decided to go against it anyway. If I go and ask for a coffe in the shop for 20 years, and I always get the same thing, but after 21 years they suddenly give me decaf and say no more coffee for you toxic manchild of course I get upset and complain about the service. I don't think that is entitlement, it's reasonable expectation. Why won't street fighter get a similar controversy? Because they don't try to "reform" their fans out of liking sexy female characters. The technical issues were related to animations, and it was blown way out of proportion in my opinion. It is my observation that the none of the characters in ME:A have traditionally beautiful faces. I make up my own mind, I don't need anyone else to tell me what I should think about games. In ME1 and ME2 most characters were very good looking, in ME:A none of them are. Not just the Asari are ugly in it, but humans as well, but the Asari stand out because the are supposed to be good looking by lore. So the representation excuse does not fly in their case. Of course they deny all accusations of it being a deliberate design choice, but then are they really using incompetence as their defence? That isn't exactly a win for them either. -

I don't think gaming is a particularly expensive hobby. I have many other hobbies and I can safely say all of them are more expensive than gaming. -

Depends on how obtrusive or annoying it is. but I almost always turn off background music in races in racing games. -

It's more keep escapism in games. I don't want to see dreary average or ugly characters in games. I see enough average people in real life thank you very much. They can make all characters as ugly as they want, if that's the way they want to exercise their creative freedom. I'm not encroaching on their right to make games with ugly people. But don't call me names, when I refuse to buy such products. And especially don't suggest that I just want to whack off on games. I can appreciate beautiful people without wanting to put my manpart in them. I prefer good looking men over ugly men as well, despite not being sexually interested in them. Or trans people or gay characters. But you and I both know very well that many of these game designers do it just to spite the fans. And then go on to call them toxic manbabies on twitter when they complain about making characters dreary and bland. You are going for the hyperbole. There is a huge difference between making Asari faces look completely average and unremarkable against lore, and bikini armor. It is obvious when it is political and when it isn't. That's the difference between say The Last of Us II which wants to accurately represent people after a zombie apocalypse. And Mortal Kombat 11, that is a completely nonsensical fantasy to begin with, but suddenly they are concerned with how much skin fighters show, but for some reason they only cover up female fighters and not male ones. Yeah, right, I don't buy the realism and practicality excuse they given for one second. I believe that is 100% percent a political decision in line with 3rd wave feminism that ironically hates attractive females and the men who show them attention. Just because some people who speak about de-politicizing games do it for wrong reasons doesn't mean the issue doesn't exist. It pisses me off too, when people claim the Last of Us 2 is political. Representation alone is not political. The whole game is built around ambiguity and some people cannot see that even when it dances on their nose. Everybody wants fleshed out and comlpex characters, you are not alone in that. It's very presumptuous to assume others just want bikini armor and no personality. in the end video games are an outlet to do things we would not do in real life. And some devs are trying to deprive us from doing just that. Because they assume they are better than us and want to teach us a moral lesson. But our morals are all and well, we know the difference between a game that in unreal and the real world which is real. Having female characters in a fantasy fighting game show skin doesn't make me respect women in the real world any less. -

I don't like completely wacko armors, but that doesn't only mean overly sexualized, it can be a pauldron that is higher than the character itself, or a headpiece that looks like it weighs 2 tons and serves no purpose whatsoever. What I really take issue with is the deliberate de-sexualization of characters. When their obvious goal is to make characters completely unappealing. I play games as a form of escapism, and as such I prefer characters in them to be attractive. At the bare minimum the player character. But it doesn't hurt if some of the NPCs look nice too. It was such a relief to play Cyberpunk 2077 where most characters were on the good side of the spectrum as opposed to games like Mass Effect Andromeda where they ugflified even the asari whose primary lore trait is that they are attractive to all species equally. But the modern twitter dwelling game designers view games as a platform for their politics and no lore is sacred to them. -

All the time, I love to find off limits places. Like in GTA3 the intro cinematic takes place in a city block that is part of the main gamee map just detached from it. On another note, I just recently discovered a ton of secret places in the countyside map of Mafia, the original game. As someone ported the whole map into BeamNg, and with no limitations or boundaries present you can go anywhere on the map, and surprisingly there are several setpieces on the countryside map that are probably part of cutscenes from the game. -
I don't think most of those games aged well. Early 3D games like Tekken 3 particularly age badly. Here's my list instead: Raptor Call of the Shadows - 1994 Raptor is a classical 2D vertical scrolling shoot em up with a very addictive campaign. Boosted by an in-depth weapon upgrade system. You can never go wrong with hand painted 2D graphics, which is almost timeless. I finish the campaign once every few years even after all these years. Test Drive Unlimited - 2006 This aged so well that it is in fact still the best street racing game available to date. The most impressive part of the game is its immersive nature, you are not just in a racing game, you are immersed in a street racing playboy lifestyle, with the ability to buy houses, luxury cars, race or just cruise around an almost 1:1 recreation of Oahu. The graphics might be getting a bit long in the tooth by now, but it's still enjoyable. Tie Fighter - 1994 Everything that seems like a good idea about Star Wars Squadrons has already been done better in this game 25 years before that was even conceived. You are better off playing this game even today instead of Squadrons and its annoying and weak campaign. And space is a particularly forgiving environment in terms of graphics. So it does not detract from the experience. And the cutscenes are hand drawn. Cyberia - 1994 This game aged well because of its excellent sound design and background music, which makes the game very atmospheric. The graphics holds up as it is mostly pre-rendered. Which means it plays as an arcade shooter, if you can accept that this game is well worth playing even today. Red Alert 2 - 2000 Most entries of the classical command and conquer franchise hold up well and easy to get into. I'm mentioning this game, because it is the highpoint of the classic storyline, it was kind of downhill after this, but Red Alert 3 is still worth playing, unlike Tiberum Wars and Tiberian Twilight (C&C 3 and 4) Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour - 2003 The Best RTS game, bar none. I don't know what more I can I say. Honorable mention: The Need for Speed - 1994, OK, it doesn't exactly hold up today, but the graphics of this game is way ahaed of its time, due to a clever trick they used. The environment is not really 3D, but basically a projection, that plays like a video as the car moves through it's playback speed varies depending on the car speed. And for this reason you can't turn around in the game, since there is only one viable perspective. This results in graphics thta is far superior to any competing game at the time.

Probably not what you were expecting, but I always thought Cyberia was a very atmospheric game, mainly thanks to the excellent BGM and sound design. Also L.A. Noire And Alien Isolation -
Games that try to lead you to take certain paths

Bioshock Infinite comes to mind first. The baptism scene was especially painful to endure. But also there are other places where the game doesn't just force you to do something, it will even force you to look at a certain direction. Or FarCry5, might be an open world game, but in terms of storytelling and progression it's as set in stone and linear as can be. You can see what's coming from a 1000 miles in it multiple times, yet there is nothing you can do to avoid it. I was also annoyed with skyrim when you need to complete the whole shout ritual, I always wished there was an option to just reject the teachings. But of course the worst kind are forced failures, where the game will make the player work for a goal only to yank it out of your grasp, with no chance of redemption, that's by far the most frustrating thing a game can do. For example Cyberpunk 2077 is guilty of this on multiple levels: (Spoilers bellow) you are betrayed and shot by dexter deshawn, and the game doesn't even let you take revenge, and at the end you are left with a big nothing sandwitch the whole game is about survival, but you are still going to die in some way no matter which ending you chose. -
Are you sure it was about the first game? Because I also hate what rockstar did with the character in Max Payne 3, but I was referring to the first game, not the entire franchise.

I'm a fan of ridiculous solutions, especially in open world action games. Like approaching places from directions that were never intended, or defeating higher level enemies by ludicrous ai exploits. I don't know why is it fun, when normally I always prefer realism in games. -

My dream mmo has zero interaction with other players, I Don'T even want to see them. So basically a single player game.

On my first play through of games I always tend to miss a lot of content, because I go for full immersion. I do what makes sense in terms of the story. But if the game is good enough I'll start it again and do a more comprehensive run. When a game tries to force you to do something I always go out of my way to not do it. That's where bad game design will reveal itself. Because if the game is not prepared for the player going their own way I count that as bad design.

What definitely turns me away is if they make long standing supporters pay the same for it as complete noobs. For example I have bough every mass effect game and every single player dlc ever released for them, but I'm supposed to pay the same price for the legendary edition as someone who didn't spend a cent on the trilogy before? Hell no. In a polar opposite I got SKyrim Special edition completely free just for owning the game and the DLC expansions. -

In all honesty all the remakes I've played sucked on some level, I don't remember a single one that was perfect. RE2 and RE3 have at least put in the effort, too bad I was never a fan of those games in the first place.I've recently purchased both but only because of the abundance of mods available for them.

There is the other side of the coin as well, that some people will deliberately try to gaslight you. And it often works, there was more than one occasion recently where I was doubting my own sanity and had to fire up games to double check if I remember correctly.
