  1. When I get frustrated by something in a game which I find illogical or poorly designed, my reaction is usually to attack the problem (i.e. solve a puzzle, finish clearing an area) as quickly as possibly and move on. I can get kind of manic about it. I just want it out of my way so I can get back to enjoying the rest of the game. On the other hand, my friend who I game with has the exact opposite reaction. He rage-quits, sometimes not just for the night, but forever with that particular game. It made me wonder which of our reactions are more “typical.” How do you react when a game really frustrates you?
  2. What is the worst game-destroying glitch or bug you have ever had to deal with? For me, it’s definitely the bug in Fallout New Vegas which causes areas to freeze the more you play the game, to the point where I can’t even finish my current playthrough (this doesn’t affect everyone, but it isn’t just me). A runner-up might be the mysterious “corruption” of my profile data in Dragon Age: Origins (which happened last night). At least I finished Awakening before it happened ….
  3. So I finished my first playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins as well as Awakening, and last night I decided to download one of the other DLCs (I got Awakening on a disc) to play it. The download and install seemed to go fine, but then when I loaded Origins, I got a message that said something like this: “Your profile has been corrupted, and default settings have been restored.” I’m not sure what this means, but it seems to imply that it has managed to lose or misplace all my progress—not cool. Anyone know how to fix this? I’m on PS3. Thanks!
  4. Do most people not like Tetris? I always thought it was a beloved classic. I figured I'm the odd one for not getting into it.
  5. I have to confess I never got into Tetris. It doesn't frustrate me or anything--it just fails to captivate me. It presents an interesting optimization problem though, and I suspect I'd find a technical discussion on it fascinating.
  6. What book or story have you re-read the most?
  7. In general, I am not a huge fan of puzzles in video games, but there are exceptions. I really enjoyed Myst back in the day on PC. While it could be frustrating, most of the puzzles were fairly interesting, and the settings/story were fantastic. What are some awesome puzzle games (new or old) on any platform which y’all can recommend?
  8. Who is your favorite character featured in a DLC in any game? So far, my vote goes to Joshua Graham in Honest Hearts in Fallout: New Vegas.
  9. Totally agreed on Left Behind! That one blew my mind. I was finally about to play Old World Blues for the first time the other week, but the freezing/glitching problem NV is giving me made it impossible. It'll be a priority on my next playthrough! I did manage to play Honest Hearts and Dead Money on this playthrough, and really liked both of those.
  10. At what age did you realize you are transgender?
  11. For those here who play or have played MMOs, what are your worst horror stories about terrible administrators?
  12. What is the best DLC you ever played for any game ever? On a related note, what would you say was the best value DLC you ever played (i.e. quality added to the game in relation to cost)?
  13. Fetch quests, i.e. “Fetch me a bucket,” are pretty much the standard filler for open world games. They’re repetitious, and a lot of people complain that they’re dull. But I know some people who can’t get enough of them. Do you love fetch quests or hate them?
  14. Owing to an issue with my game glitching, I only really got to play through Boone's story during my first playthrough of Fallout NV (I'm going to start my next one soon). But I really have been impressed with all follower interactions I've had in NV compared to other Bethesda games. The characters are just drawn in much more detail, and at least with Boone, I noticed they seem tactically smarter as well. I even found myself getting attached to temporary followers in the DLCs, and wished I could bring them back with me to the main game. Who is your favorite Fallout NV follower?
  15. It isn't universal. I'm not sure why it affects some folks and not others. But it's definitely a known issue. I've run into some long discussions about it.
  16. lol, no kidding. It's so shamelessly buggy that I almost swear that is part of its charm.
  17. "This topic is inspired by @killamch89 , who asked me, "If you could be any character in Skyrim, who would you be and why?" Expanding on that, if you had to be any one character in any video game you have played, who would you be and why? Some possible answers for me: 1-Aerin in Skyrim, so I could have Mjoll as my best friend. Finding a BFF like that in real life isn't easy. 2-Leliana in Dragon Age, because she learned how to become comfortable with who she is after suppressing herself for a long time.
  18. What relationships (of any nature, not necessarily romantic) have you found most compelling in games you’ve played? For me, I think the winners are Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us and Booker and Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite. Kind of funny they’re both similar types of relationships, and both involve Troy Baker voice-acting =D
  19. I haven’t played Mass Effect yet, but someone told me it’s pretty much just a sci-fi Dragon Age. So that definitely sounds like my cup of tea. Who here has played it, and what are your thoughts on it?
  20. Actually, doesn't the game then tell you "this person has already caught you"?
  21. Aranea! She's another of my faves. Like you said, powerful--and I also felt sorry for her being essentially daedra-dumped by Azura with nothing to do. I like bringing her along.
  22. This might sound weird, but one of the things I miss since finishing my first playthrough of Bioshock: Infinite are all the cool, atmospheric sounds in the game. What other games do a great job creating a unique and immersive ambiance through the use of environment sounds?
  23. That's very cool. I never would've thought of law enforcement skills being handy in sales.
  24. I'd be Aerin, so my best friend could be Mjoll.
