  1. Are there games you tend to play when you don’t feel well? I usually go with whatever open world game I am playing, as it is low pressure and I can save and quit anytime.
  2. I do this too if the character is established by the developer. But that isn't out of line with my ethics, as a fundamental respect for "you do you" is pretty central for me. And it seems pretty rare to find a game where I absolutely cannot empathize with the protagonist.
  3. This looks interesting. Since it is you recommending it, I will definitely give it a try.
  4. I like taking my time, but I always feel pressure to hurry up and play all the games i haven't yet.
  5. Same! Hah, I thought my frequent saves were just an OCD thing. But then again, considering how much Skyrim we both play, maybe Bethesda has trained us to save often with its frequent bugs.
  6. Are there ever irresolvable issues in video game universes you wish you could do something about? Like in Skyrim, I wish I could give the Reach back to the Forsworn. I am left forever feeling a sense of incompleteness and helplessness because I can’t. Also in Skyrim, I wish I could obliterate the Soul Cairn and take down the Ideal Masters. And in Skyrim yet again, I wish I could find a way to communicate with the Falmer and help them rebuild a thriving society. These things frustrate me, but they also make Tamriel feel more real to me, since I am used to not being able to fix things IRL.
  7. I was talking with someone the other day about why we usually don’t play “evil” characters, and tend to play by our own ethics. I came up with these reasons: -Improved immersion since I am more invested emotionally. -Can practice ethical decision-making under pressure. -I care about the worlds/characters, even though they’re digital, and don’t want to harm them. Even in a solipsistic way, they are part of my existence, so I want to be kind to them. Can anyone relate?
  8. Is there any topic in video games you wish you knew more about? Like, I wish I knew more about the world of classic gaming, for example.
  9. Super broad question. Is there anything about games in general you would change if you could? Like basic underlying mechanics or standards in the industry that are fairly ubiquitous, but you would prefer weren’t?
  10. I liked @m76's thread here, and came up with a related question. If you could play any game through the point of view of a different character in that same game, what game would it be, and what character?
  11. How do you feel about gore in video games? Do you love it, hate it, or don’t care? Personally, in an FPS game, nothing ever feels quite satisfying to me until I see chunks and blood splatter.
  12. What are the most unique or unusual MMOs you have played, and what made them different?
  13. Does anyone else find Mass Effect 3 really confusing with respect to its mission orders/timing? I seem to have to check forums every few missions just to make sure I don’t miss anything/screw something up.
  14. If anyone here follows PS5 stock alerts, which sources and accounts have you found to be the most reliable?
  15. To those who have current gen systems, what are the worst current gen games you have played so far?
  16. To those who have current gen systems, what are the best current gen games you have played so far?
  17. What are some amazing FPS games that not many people have played or heard of?
  18. It drives me crazy if I can’t have an autosave or manual save every 15-20 minutes at most. What is your limit?
  19. What games feature companions who seem most real and lifelike while following? I think Elizabeth in BioShock Infinite and Ellie in TLOU are still the best I’ve seen.
  20. What games feature companions behaving in the most natural, lifelike way at home/camp? So far, the best I’ve seen is Mass Effect 3, in which your companions actually move around the ship on their own to chat with each other and do other things.
  21. From this article: “According to a new study, soldiers who play aggressive video games on a regular basis experience less traumatic nightmares than soldiers who only play occasionally or who play less violent games.” Makes sense to me. It probably helps rewire the brain so that “violent” content is perceived of as less threatening. What’s interesting to me about this is that for the longest time, my mental safe space in dreams has been FPS environments. Those are the only places my own C-PTSD nightmare content almost never surfaces.
  22. Are there any items from any video game you wish could be yours IRL? For me, it is some of the advertisements and propaganda posters from the BioShock games. But happily, I have found some prints for sale, so soon, they shall be mine.
  23. What are some situations in video games that bothered you only when you stopped and thought about them? Like, I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring the beautiful Forgotten Vale in Skyrim, but when I thought about it, I realized how disturbing it is that the Falmer were cheated out of their ability to see their beautiful holy site (where they are currently living).
  24. Does anyone else find the eternally-burning torches and candles in video game dungeons endlessly hilarious?
