  1. I wholeheartedly agree with the statements towards EA. F them. "It's in the game"... not anymore! Now it might be in the fifteenth DLC!
  2. I've just started playing through one of probably the top 10 CC mods of all time - Meuse Crossing for The Longest Day. And I must say, it's a treat! Such a beautiful gem of a game! Contrary to most other vanilla CC games, this one is set during the invasion of France in 1940, as opposed to late-war like most other, if not all, official games of the franchise focused around ww2. It's such a blast using early war equipment, and seeing French tanks I've never seen before!
  3. Hello there, good people! So, let me cut to the chase! I have recently taken upon myself a mission. Perhaps a calling even, some may say. Are we talking a noble pursuit for the betterment of mankind? ...No. Certainly not! If anything, quite the contrary! I have decided to fight my way through all the war that the Close Combat franchise has to offer! Well... All the war that the singleplayer grand campaigns have to offer, anyway. My goal is: Play through every single Close Combat game to ever exist. With both factions in the longest campaign the games offer up, on the hardest difficulty there is, making things even harder for myself than the developers originally intended for it to be, as we move along! I figured, instead of posting about each game separately... Why not have a project collection, where everything can be located as it comes out? And so here we are! I might even throw in some reviews of the games as time goes by, as I certainly am getting a good sense of what is what, and the differences between the various iterations as I progress through my personal mission! Now, I am a seasoned veteran of the franchise, and have been playing Close Combat games for, at the time of writing this, around two and a half decades. My first experience with the series was with the Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far demo. This was back before everyone had "the internet". Whatever that place was. However - a friend of mine, when I was in my early elementary school years, had gotten his hands on the demo from a CD in a gaming-magazine! He told me about it, and I through it sounded amazing. So we went to his place, and I was not wrong! Instantly hooked me right in like a true sucker! And here I am, 25 years later and still playing these dang games! I have for a while been considering playing through them all with both factions, and put the playthroughs out on youtube. And well, I finally got to it! Why the heck not, right!? It's somewhat of a niche game, and some of it's iterations barely have any LPs of them, so I enjoy the thought that one day, anyone will be able to come to my youtube channel and have all the games laid out for them to choose from in a let's play type format! With some reviews, when the time comes, and heck - even some of the better mods out there being played through as well! Why do I bother with this? Well. As you will surely figure out for yourself if you watch any substantial amount of these videos, it is simply because I am insane, and don't have my priorities in life straight! Close Combat. A love and hate relationship that has it's ups and downs. It has me jumping out of my seat screaming in joy at unsuspected victories. It also, on the other end of the spectrum, have me close to beating a hole through my screen at the utter unbelievability of it's BS at times! So... come along from the rides, and see the best and the worst sides of me as the journey goes! I will now list the four playthroughs I have already got out there below. In the future, more will be added. If there is a specific CC game you'd like to see next, that I haven't played already, I am certainly open for requests on that part. However, I am likely to finish the vanilla games before I dip into the glorious mods that are out there! You can suggest those too - it will just take a while until I get to them! Either way! I will list them like this; the aggressor in the campaign first, then the defender second. So for the Normandie landings - the Allies, then the Germans. For the invasion of Russia - The Germans, then the Russians. Alright! Here we go! Close Combat: Wacht Am Rhein (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Wacht Am Rhein (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: The Longest Day (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: The Longest Day (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat 3: Cross Of Iron (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat 3: Cross Of Iron (Allied Grand Campaign) That is the four iterations of the franchise I currently have available out there at the time of making this post. More is sure to follow soon, and I hope some of y'all will want to come along for the ride! If you got any questions, suggestions, hate or love, I am receptive to it all! Let me know what you think, wether you think I'm doing allright, or you think I need to make some changes to how I do things! For all I know, you might be right! Oh well! If you're still reading at this point, I would like to thank you for your attention, and I sincerely hope your time spent with this does not feel wasted! Y'all have a good one, folks! And may Cthulhu bless you! Cheers!
  4. It's never too late! What's stopping you? 🙂
  5. Yeah, I can't argue with that, CC, regardless of it's iteration is still stuck in the 90s. However, I do enjoy them for what they are, despite shortcomings and frustrating annoyances that has plagued me for decades. I honestly think they're fixing things that aren't broken, and leaving the broken stuff alone, judging from their last 3 releases 😕
  6. Pokemon master race! 😛 oh, the memories. I still remember the day in 6th grade when my best friend told me about this new show on TV where some kid hunted caterpillars with his flaming dinosaur. I was instantly intrigued. First gen... really was a good one! We had some tall towers in the yard, and at recess, people would climb to the top and drop down pokemon cards for all the other kids at school to fight over xD parents were in disarray, and it was apparently a big problem just because some people broke some legs and arms. pfff. The brawl is real!
  7. Sorry for the bump, but I wasn't able to edit my intial post (probably due to it being a while since I posted it), and I wanted to add the German playthrough to the post as well! Either way, here it is; Have a good one, y'all!
  8. It really is! It's simple and a bit dated, but if you can look past that, you can have hours of semi-mindless joy! 🙂
  9. I remember the good old days when the original Call of Duty released. Was a blast at LAN parties! The franchise has been through quite a journey since then! 😛
  10. Hello there! So, I am a seasoned veteran of the CC franchise, and have about 25 years of experience with them. Picked up my first CC game in the 90s, when I got a hold of the CC2 demo off a CD from a gaming magazine. Was amazed then, and love the games still! Currently I'm on a mission to play through all CC games with both factions in the grand campaigns of the respective games. I will be putting them all up on youtube, in due time. It's just something I've wanted to do for a while, and at some point I decided "you know what? I'm just gonna do it!" - and so here we are! Prior to this playthrough, I have also finished with both sides in Cross of Iron and Last Stand Arnhem. More to come in the future! However! Here's the links to the first episodes in each playthrough: (I'll edit in the German one once I finish the Allied playthrough.) Hope some of y'all can get something out of it. Have a good one!
  11. I don't even want to know how much I have spent on it, but I've played World of Tanks for over a decade, and I have spent probably in the thousands of euros over the years... Get myself a car? No thanks, I want a new digital tank instead...
  12. Well, there you go - free to download! It's definitely something I'd recommend if you're in the market for just a few hours of relaxes management entertainment in the form this game uniquely provides! 🙂 Oh! If you do download it, you might want the patch that should be optional with it on abandonware sites. Might. You might also not! It just depends on... oh, I'm not really sure. But some people might need it to get the game to work, others might have an easier time getting it to work without. I think ultimately I made the game work without it, and had issues with inverted colours when I tried using it, and had to have my desktop set to a certain resolution to not get glitches graphically etc... it was a whole thing! 😛 But for sure run as admin and in SP2 compatibility. And I assure you, it is indeed a good time! For a while, until things start progressing very slowly due to some decisions the devs have made. But for sure, you'll get a few hours of fun out of it before it starts getting to that point!
  13. Anyone else got to play this game back in the days when it was new and fresh? In ye olde days of 2002? 🙂 For me personally, it's a game I like to come back to every now and then and just chillax with some digital golfing mixed with the the sims universe. Never gets old for me, tho it does get tedious when your course gets to a certain point! 😛 If I'm not mistaken, this should be abandonware by now. I have at least seen discussions of it where it has been linked to as such. Pro tip to get it to work properly - I fiddled around a bit with it, well, a damn lot, actually... and finally I managed to make it work properly (somewhat, in a 800x600 window in the middle of my screen, but other than that all good) - it seems the trick is to run it in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, and "run as administrator" ticked on. There may or may not be other steps, but this worked for me on Windows 10! I'm currently doing a playthrough of if on youtube, if anyone wants to follow along! Going through it on Impossible difficulty until I got 18 holes and a damn nice course, or the game eventually breaks down on me and spirals into an unrecoverable domino-effect of horrendousness, as it might, due to the difficulty level and certain game-mechanics. Not much more to it than simple relaxed sim gaming, really! Hope it will be of some value to at least one other person out there!
  14. I wanted to edit the original post to add the German playthrough to it as well, but I can't seem to do it, so instead I will add it here; They're now both completed, with a grand total of 194 episodes across both factions! Hope some of you will bet some sort of entertainment value out of them! (and that this doesn't break any forum rules due to bumping? I would edit the first post if I could.)
  15. It's not a bad game to get inspiration from 🙂 All the maps are hand-made, so a lot of work has gone into them for sure. Not sure exactly what that means, but I assume drawing/painting of some sort, most likely digitally?
