Nine Sols is a 2D Action platformer, I kind of like It as It looks like a lot of fun to me. I know it's currently out on Steam for now.

I think one big challenge for indie games is the limited resources. The indie developers seems not to have big budgets, so they have to be very creative with what they have. This can make it very hard to create high-quality graphics and sound as well.
