How much time on average do you play video games per day?
Kyng replied to Shortie's topic in Gaming Forum
These days, not a whole lot... often only an hour, if I play any at all. The only time I might have longer gaming sessions is during the weekends. -
Civilization VI. My sister and I won our game with a Religious Victory 😄 !
-
The end of Paddington. Didn't watch enough of it to give it a score based on that, but having watched the whole film on a previous occasion, I'd say at least 9/10.

Where exactly did she say that? Don't get me wrong: I have no attachment to Rowling as a person, and if she did indeed say that, then it was absolutely despicable of her - but it's not something I've ever heard being attributed to her prior to today (and I also can't find it by looking it up myself).
-
Sausages.... I had one when I was 4 years old, hated it, and was put off for life.
-
Civilization VI Playing a hot seat game with my sister, with her playing as France, and me playing as the Mapuche. So far, it's going pretty well: I've settled five cities, and flipped a sixth from the Mongols 🙂 !
-
I did play in them a bit in the early 2000s (usually when I was on vacation and didn't have access to a computer)... there's a little bit of nostalgia associated with it, but I don't really miss them apart from that TBH.
-
I guess a combination of the character's intelligence, and just the fact that I was (and still am) a major Harry Potter fan!
-
Honestly, I don't think I despise any bands... the mainstream ones that enjoy chart success tend to be too generic to get worked up over, while the more obscure ones are easy enough to avoid. (One musician I can't stand is Nicki Minaj - but I suppose she's not a 'band' 😛 )

FTL: Faster than Light. I'm playing with the Slug C cruiser, which is one of my favourites, because it starts with Mind Control and Hacking, which gives you a lot of creative ways to kill off the enemy crew. For example, sometimes I'll hack their Medbay or their Oxygen, and have them suffocate to death 😛 . I'm at the end of the 5th sector (out of 8), and I'm winning most of my battles quite easily 😄 !

I think good graphics are in the "Nice to have" category. If a game has poor graphics, but has engaging gameplay, then I'll still enjoy it regardless - whereas if a game has shoddy gameplay, good graphics won't save it. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. With that being said, a game isn't going to make it onto my "Favourites of all time" list unless it has at least okay graphics 😛 .

I had one on Emma Watson when I was teenager 😛 . However, I quickly grew out of "celebrity crushes", as I couldn't ever imagine myself being happy in such a relationship, where I'd always be known for being "so-and-so's partner", rather than for anything I'd done myself.

Do you change your button mapping to suit your gameplay
Kyng replied to Shortie's topic in Gaming Forum
Occasionally. For example, Crypt of the Necrodancer had the following controls on the numpad: Numpad 8 = Up Numpad 4 = Left Numpad 6 = Right Numpad 2 = Down I changed the 'Down' key from Numpad 2 to Numpad 5, because I was used to arrow keys 😛 . (Unfortunately, my own set of arrow keys was messed up, hence why I was using the numpad instead!) -
FTL: Faster than Light Got a Chain Vulcan, which takes about 35 seconds to get up to speed... but when it's fully charged up, it fires off one shot every second. Advanced players don't consider it to be a very good weapon (because you're vulnerable for the 35 seconds that it takes to charge up), but it's great fun to use! And I also happened to have a Weapon Pre-Igniter, which allowed me to skip the first phase of the charging process, and get the total charging time down to 24 seconds 🙂 . I did make some mistakes which almost cost me the run (for example, I didn't buy enough fuel, and I ran out a couple of times...), but I won in the end 😄 .

How quickly do you forget (some) video game content?
Kyng replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Honestly, within a day or two of playing. If I take a break from a game for a couple of weeks, and then come back to it, I'll mostly have forgotten where I was! -
Of course not. The primary reason to participate in any hobby is to have fun. If you're having fun gaming, then it's not a waste of time. Period. (Of course, many hobbies - including gaming - also have other side-effect benefits, but those aren't the main reason to participate in them!)
-
Yes, although I try not to play it too much... I don't want to get addicted to it!
-
The Sims 4... but I swear it's not all I ever play 😂. I played a couple of games of FTL: Faster Than Light over the past week!

Pulp - Common People

Thanks 😄 ! To be honest, I could probably combine it with the racetrack idea... the track could pass straight into the duck's bill 🙂 .

Are parents ultimately responsible for what their kids play?
Kyng replied to aerodynamik's topic in Gaming Forum
Up to a certain point, yes. If they're young children, then the parents should be the ones buying the games - and it's up to them to make sure the games they do buy are age-appropriate (or, if they go over to their friends' houses to play games, they can always try to make sure they aren't playing anything too mature there). But, if they're teenagers? At that point, I just don't think it's realistic to hold parents responsible for their children's gaming choices. Their teenage children will probably be buying their own games by that point (without their parents necessarily knowing) - and even if the parents do try to stop them from making unwise choices, they're just going to rebel against it. If anything, the outcome might even be worse than if the parents had done nothing. In England, the age of criminal responsibility (i.e. the age at which children, rather than their parents, are held responsible for crimes they commit) is 10. At that age, I think it makes sense to say that children are at least partially responsible for their own gaming choices (rather than it being 100% the parents' responsibility). -
Nope. I had the odd fleeting thought about it, but I never gave it serious consideration, since I knew I had nowhere to go!

The Empire Strikes Back. I think it's aged better than the other two (although that might be partly because I watched the Special Editions, and the worst of George Lucas's changes to the Original Trilogy were in the other two films!) For me, it's Frog Cakes... I used to have those all the time as a small child!
