  1. Nintendo has announced it will end regular updates for Splatoon 3, two years after the game launched for Nintendo Switch. The news was shared after this week’s special Grand Festival event. Nintendo has regularly updated Splatoon 3 with new weapons, Splatfests, and features since its launch on September 9, 2022. Support for the game’s predecessor, Splatoon 2, also lasted for around two years, with its final significant update arriving in July 2019. “After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close,” reads a message on the official Splatoon X account. “Don’t worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! “Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being.” Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC, the new single-player campaign and final piece of content included in the game’s $24.99 / £22.49 Expansion Pass, was released in February of this year. The Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024 were then held in April. They were originally due to take place in January at Nintendo Live 2024, but they had to be rescheduled after the event was cancelled due to safety concerns Source: Videogameschronicle
  2. Italian police have seized fake vintage consoles and games worth €47.5 million. As BBC News reports, almost 12,000 consoles that stored more than 47 million counterfeit games were seized, including titles such as Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, and Star Wars. The head of economic crime unit for Turin's financial police Alessandro Langella said the fake retro consoles originated from China and were being "imported to be sold in specalised shops or online." The devices were fitted with non-certified electrical components and were destroyed as they did not meet European safety standards. Nine people have been arrested and charged with trading counterfeited goods and could face up to eight years behind bars. Earlier this year, Square Enix revealed that nine people were charged in connection with distributing counterfeit merchandise in China, with products involving Final Fantasy and Nier: Automata characters. source: Gamesindustry

  8. From a PC gaming perspective, easily the most interesting aspect of the new Sony PS5 Pro console is its ray-tracing hardware and performance. For a long time it's been rumoured that the PS5 Pro may share its RT hardware with AMD's upcoming RDNA 4 GPU architecture. Now it's been confirmed by Sony's PlayStation head honcho, Mark Cerny, that not only does the PS5 Pro leverage RT hardware from AMD's roadmap that isn't currently in any available GPU, it was Sony that "motivated" AMD to come up with it. At least, this is what Cerny claims. Speaking to CNET(via Overclock3D), Cerny says the "PS5 Pro uses the new advanced [ray tracing] feature sets that AMD created as the next step in their roadmap architecture. But if you look around, there are no other AMD GPUs that use it yet. We motivated the development, and I'm very happy we did so...the response from the developers has been extraordinarily great." Of course, AMD will certainly have had new RT hardware in its roadmap, so we're a little sceptical of the idea that it only happened because Sony pushed AMD as opposed to Sony plucking that IP from AMD's roadmap and asking for it to be stuck into the PS5 Pro's updated APU. That debate aside, the really interesting aspect of all this is what it says about the ray-tracing performance of AMD's upcoming RDNA 4 GPUs. For starters, Sony says the new PS5 Pro has 2-3x the RT performance of the PS5. That sounds impressive at face value, but hold on. The PS5 Pro has 1.67x the graphics compute units of the PS5. So, that alone would give you a 1.67x bump in raw RT performance. Meanwhile, AMD claimed a 1.5x RT improvement going from RDNA 2, as used by the PS5, to RDNA 3. So, were the PS5 Pro to merely use the same RDNA 3 RT hardware as AMD's existing Radeon RX 7000 GPUs, then the calculation would be 1.67 x 1.5 = 2.5. In other words, merely using RDNA 3-style RT hardware along with the added functional units in the PS5 Pro gets you, on paper, to a figure that's slap bang in the middle of the RT performance boost range claimed by Sony for the PS5 Pro. Anyway, if you want to put a slightly pessimistic spin on all this, you could easily conclude that AMD's next-gen RT hardware isn't looking hugely exciting going by Sony's numbers. It also squares with what existing rumours around the PS5 Pro's RT implementation. In other words, that it still doesn't have as complete an RT hardware acceleration feature set as either Nvidia or Intel provides in their GPUs. So, you wouldn't expect RT performance in the PS5 Pro to be on par with Nvidia. And that in turn implies that when AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs arrive early next year, they probably won't close the ray-tracing gap to Nvidia at any given point in the market at which they are competing. Which is disappointing if true, given that RDNA 4 will be AMD's third-generation of GPUs with RT support. Source: Pcgamer
  9. That’s correct. I was referring to those particular subreddits. Thegamingcirclejerk is also pretty large with 693k members, but I haven’t checked that one out yet, so I’m not too sure how their rules are compared to the other subreddit’s.

  11. Nope, not all. There isn’t anyone in this world that influences me to take part in politics. I make my own decisions and that includes politics.
  12. In 2014, Vietnam-based developer Dong Nguyen shocked the gaming world when he pulled viral hit Flappy Bird from the App Store and the Google Play Store at a time when it was making tens of thousands of dollars a day. He went on to say: "I can call Flappy Bird a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it." Now, Flappy Bird is set to return, with an expanded version aiming for launch by the end of October across multiple platforms including web browsers, and an iOS and Android version planned for release in 2025. But this new Flappy Bird isn’t from Nguyen, it’s from ‘The Flappy Bird Foundation,’ which is described as “a new team of passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world.” source:Ign

  16. Indie game developer Bad Ridge Games and publisher V Publishing confirmed today that Mirthwood's release has been pushed back. They team released a couple of quotes, which we have for you here, letting fans know the game has been pushed to November 6, 2024, to give the team a little extra time to work on the game. "We want Mirthwood to be the best it can be on day one," said Daron Otis at Bad Ridge Games. "As a small, passionate team, we've worked tirelessly to create a world that players will love, but we felt there were still key areas, like performance optimization, localization, and some of the systems, that need to be fleshed out and more attention before launch." "Releasing a game that isn't 100% ready isn't something we want to do," said Michael Brown, CEO of V Publishing. "We're committed to ensuring that when Mirthwood reaches players' hands, it's as polished as possible. The fans of the game are the most important thing, and making them happy is more of a priority than hitting a date, no matter what." source: Bleedingcool

  24. I’ve seen Lil Wayne perform twice and Drake once. I’ve also seen SuicideBoys perform once. All their concerts were great. I’d see them all perform again.
  25. It’s been a long time since I actually purchased a physical Cd. I tend to just buy them on streaming services nowadays. I think the last time I purchased a physical album was 5 years ago.
