It's been a while since I played the game, but I do remember rupees not being that common either. What really matters more that than how common they are is how that balancing out with the economy of the game, and again it's been a while, but I remember the in-game economy being that harsh. Items weren't that expensive and I don't recall anytime whare I was blocked off from doing something because there was an item that I had to buy but couldn't afford.

The problem with racial slurs and other terms that could be considered prejudice is either don't know or don't care that it's not, and is never, up to the individual using the slur to decide whether or not it's OK. Far to many people seem to choose for themselves that it's OK without any consideration of content or how it applies is specific situation. It's called "ignorance" for a reason, because people ignore the specifics of a situation, the history of the words and the perspective of the other party. When it's something between friends that's one thing, that a "permission granted" scenario. And yes, some people might not mind being called that that but when it's used against somebody, at thier expense to degrade and insult them, that's never OK. The default behaviour is "don't use racial slurs" because with most people and in most situations one cannot know well enough to decide whether or not it's OK. It's common sense, really.

As this isn't strictly a gaming topic, I'm moving this thread to general chat. As for the question, there isn't much that I can honestly say. I've only really uploaded to YouTube for practical reasons (living having clips to embed into my game reviews, for example) and never really sought a following. Honestly, I think Youtubers are at the mercy of luck and the algorithm and have very little control over thier own success. I suppose being very active on social media and the aforementioned Discord wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, I certainly won't offer any sympathy over what happened to her, but that doesn't change the fact that she's still alive, so I would obviously still go for the octopus because that is at least edible. Before I explain further, a quick lesson in tastebuds. There are two primary functions for tastebuds. To alert you to incompatible and dangerous materials before they can enter your digestion by having them taste horrid. Offering a pleasurable experience in reaction to nutrient's you body is the most in need off, that's what cravings are. So whilst what this streamer stupidly put herself though was unpleasant, eating a poisonous mushroom would, if anything, be worse. Not only could it kill you, the experience eating would be something I'd wish on nobody. It's not just the taste, that would likely be rancid, but how it would make you feel as your body reacts to it as it attempts to digest it. Poison is prolonged and way more painful than any work of fiction can do justice. Even if you survive, it's unlikely the mushroom would even have any nutritional value anyway, so you'll be putting yourself through it for nothing. Wait, no, worse actually, because your body will have wasted valuable energy and water trying to neutralise said poison, so you'll probably be worse than you were to begin with. The octopus is at least food, it will quell you hunger and has nutrients and protein. So, with all due respect and with I genuine application for the topic @killamch89 (mostly for the video), this is quite a stupid question with an obvious answer.

Yeah, it is interesting that people call the Aya Neo and the others "Steam Deck clones" when they came out first, but these people who have this weird loyalty to Steam tend to be slightly stupid, so it isn't a shock. Still, the Steam Deck itself isn't without merit. The hardware is powerful and it's well priced It is a good option for PC gaming on the go. Whilst the having the name Steam written all over hasn't exactly hurt it's sales, that doesn't mean the people who bought it were misled or were ignorant of thier options.

Cyberpunk 2077 became a cautionary tale to game publishers/developers about not announcing release dates for games to early, or at least it should have. Companies do this simply for sheer greed. So they can rake in those pre-orders as soon as possible, but it's stupid because it means announcing a release to early to predict whether or not that date is even a realistic goal. Cyberpunk 2077 announced thier release date at E3 for maximum exposure 10 months before it was scheduled to come out only to then delay the game on three separate occasions eventually releasing a year and a half after it was announced. And in the end, as we all know, it was still too soon as the game was in a terrible state at launch. I bring this up because Starfield is following what almost looks like a carbon copy of this stupid strategy, except it may be even worse. Bethesda announced Starfiled's release date at E3 or maximum exposure on June 13 2021 to be November 11nth 2022. A year and a half earlier. Then, of course, the inevitable happened, and the game was delayed to the "first half" of 2023 (Kind of vague considering they announced an actual date, another sure sign that they were not confident about making that either.). Starfield is not open to pre-order yet, but people will, and likely already have, bought gamepass subscriptions to play it, so the rule still applies. It's still marketing and it's still an attempt to rake in money before the games launch. And now now, to the surprise of nobody, barley over two months into the "first half" of 2023, they have delayed it... again. This time to September 6th 2023 They didn't even announce it as a delay, just offered up new release date outside of the "first half" of 2023 like we wouldn't notice. This really aggravates me because, whilst no company should do a "Cyperpunk" with thier release strategy by announcing the game's release date super early, if there is one company that REALLY shouldn't do this, it's Bethesda. Thier unfortunate, but earned reputation for broken game launches is well documented, so this studio more than anyone needed to announce the game was in development at most, to then just work on the game quietly and only announce a release date when they were on the final spit and polish. What's extra frustrating about this is that this is that this is exactly what they did with Fallout 4 and that ended up being one of thier better launches, so they know this. Yes, Fallout 4 wasn't perfect at launch, no big open world RPG is, but it was a hell of a lot better than some of thier other launches. A delay is always better than a gaming being released undercooked, any fan with common sense will rather a game be delayed than come out broken. However, that doesn't mean we should put up with it when companies employ this stupid strategy of announcing release dates ridiculously early only to inevitably delay games again and again. We need to call-out companies when they actually make the mistake of announcing games release dates too far in advance and, most importantly, not pre-order when they do.

I have seen the great reviews the game was getting and was surprised to find it really looked more up my alley that I thought it would be. However, I just couldn't bring myself to buy it because I can't handle the thought that any of my money, even just a tiny little bit of it ending up in the vile TERF JK Rowling's pocket. Not to mention I know that arrogant bitch registers the success of anything and everything based on her work as validation for her prejudiced and dangerous points of view. So I pirated it, and plan to donate the money I would have spent on the game to an LGBTQ+ rights campaign charity instead. I know that's something that I shouldn't admit to, especially as the moderator of a forum that comdems piracy and doesn't allow it, but there are times when it can be morally justified. I did that simply as me, not as a reresentive of VGR nor it's staff, members nor principles. Anyway, I am loving it so far. The look and atmosphere of the game is spot on, the indigenous story is immediately interesting and RPG elements are solid. The controls do take a little getting used too, but make sense and what I've seen of the combat is frantic and really fun to do. I'm also very relieved to find the game seems to have not been poisoned by Rowling's toxic social politics with a very diverse cast, character creation options and even includes trans-friendly options in said character creator. So, it's a great start, but we'll see how it goes.

What game(s) do you not want to see on Switch?
Shagger replied to The Blackangel's topic in Nintendo
They really should bother trying to port brand new AAA titles to the Switch anymore. I would love to see some old strategy games ported over live Civilization or C&C ported over as think they would play well on a handheld. -
This is ridiculous. Nobody just joins a forum asking a forum asking for opinions about some random gamepad, especially from a website called "offersforyou". I don't know who you expected to fool, but that's obviously an affiliate. So I'm locking this topic as there are other topics to discuss controllers already and removing the link from your post. Please do not attempt to post this or any other affiliate links again.

Playstation Exclusive - Tchia (Moderator Edit: Also on PC)
Shagger replied to BangEm's topic in Gaming News
"We designed our map system without a player marker. We think this encourages observation, exploration and make finding your way around the acapellago much more rewarding" No, it's just plain stupid. First off, they're not encouraging players to be more observant so they know whare they are, they're forcing them to. As game dev's they should know the difference. Second, how exactly are players supposed to know whare they are when in an area that the haven't explored before and thus have no landmarks refenced? Yeah, Tchia can use that "guess" mechanic to narrow it down, but it's quite a wide area. And if that map doesn't represent the environment with 100% accuracy (And let's be honest, few maps in video games actually do.), then you're screwed. Map issues aside, this does look cool. I love the way it looks and it it seams to control well. I hope the story holds up and isn't too light-hearted as I feel the game could do with that contrast. -
All versions of the game, like pretty much all modern games, are built to run on x86 software architechure, so obviously in terms of software the game between the platforms is pretty much the same. Different hardware will obviously run that software with different performance, but it's not some massive conspiracy. I hosetly think that both yourself and your source are making something out of nothing here
-
I haven't tried it myself, but PCSX2 looks like the standard. The main reason I haven't tried it is because most of the PS2 games I'd want to play have been re-released on newer hardware anyway, so I've never felt the need.

Well, the short answer is no. And it's not because gaming is any better than other forms of entertainment, but because some stories can only be told at there best as a role play and some that can be only really be told as a non-interactive narrative. Gaming is all about the role play, whereas TV shows, films and books as non-interactive media are all about observing a story. Games are about literally playing the narrative and being the protagonist, whilst TV shows, movies and books only grant you the role as an observer. Whether that means being the selfless hero or indulging the darkness as the power hungry villain, or whatever. Whether we want to admit it or not, we all have fantasies about being both and that's why fiction lets us be both, but there are some things that nobody, even in great stories, nobody wants to role play with. For example, you couldn't have a video game based of Lolita. A classic novel turned into a movie not once, but twice. The first of which directed by Stanley Kubrick of all people. But that's not the point, the point is that story makes you sympathise with it's main character despite him being guilty of having a sexual relationship with his underage charge. That is something that would be pretty much impossible to do as a role play because nobody (with any moral fibre, at least) would want to role play that, but it does work as a story being observed form the outside. Beit film or book, that story demands time to let you sympathise with it's main character, time a role play just can't offer as it takes being so far into the story, and that's if you ever sympathise at all. There are stories that can work as both a video game and as a non-interactive filmed presentation (The Last of Us being a recent and fine example), but there are also some stories that just don't. There are also stories that may only be fully effective as a role play. I'd suggest open world RPGs like Skyrim as an examples. Film as a media and modern video games as a media have similarities, but some very crucial differences as well.

In a way, that comment isn't technically wrong, just so vague and imprecise that it may as well be wrong. The expansion slot held the jumper pack that served only to allow a completed circuit so console could connect to the 4MB of Rambus RDRAM the console had on board as standard. With the expansion pack installed in the place of the jumper pack, that was increased to 8MB and would loop the additional RAM into the same circuit as the RAM already on board he console. So yeah, like any computer circuit, it won't work without RAM, but it's just one part of the circuit that is integral to the operations of the console. You may as well as well say the game cartridge makes the console run and you'd be just as correct as that effectively serves as the console's storage drive. So it's still clear he has no clue what he's talking about.

Morality Question - Is murder ever justified?
Shagger replied to The Blackangel's topic in General Chat
If were talking about murder by if's definition: Then the answer is easy. No. And I'm not even open to debate on it and feel no need to explain myself further, it's just no. If somebody is posing an immediate and certain threat to your life or the life of somebody under you protection, than yes, I can understand taking a life and wouldn't condemn somebody for doing so, but it really shouldn't be considered right either. Even then if the option is there to end them as a threat without inflicting mortal injury that would be more appropriate, but that isn't the reason why I believe it shouldn't be justified. My reasoning is complicated and will take some explaining, so I beg your patience. Before I get started though, I do want to say I wholeheartedly disagree with the statement "Police killing people is justified". Taking of a life should only be an absolute last resort is never more true of anyone than law enforcement, who sadly have a habit of not being held accountable for needlessly taking other peoples lives. Thier murder isn't justified, it's a consequence of thier own failure. They more than anyone should be exploring every other option to the point of exhaustion before they take a life. Bounty hunters are even worse, they're take lives for money and that is never a good reason. To the main event, though. Life is sacred and has value beyond anything material. Some deserve that gift more than others, but that doesn't lift anyone high enough to the point whare they have a right to decide who deserves to keep that gift and who should have it taken from them. The big reason why killing in self defence is forgivable by law in America is because American law and policy, especially around gun control, has made it far too dangerous for people not to have it forgivable. No police offer is faster than a bullet, so it has to be that way. But think about it, would it have to be that way if civilians in America weren't allowed to have guns, or at the very least not allowed to carry them around the streets? I know that it's perfectly possible for somebody to kill somebody else without a gun, it's a tool that's only as dangerous as the person carrying it, I truly understand that, but that is very problem in the US because far too many of the wrong people there can get thier hands on one of these tools far too easily. The individual is the danger to life, but that individual is far more dangerous with a weapon like a gun that he/she is with a knife or some other weapon. That's why I would never live in America, it's not safe for anyone not warded by that culture. The rest of the world isn't exactly immune, though. Murder happens everywhere and it is not acceptable, but killing in self defence (or in defence of another), and like I said whilst I do understand and would never condemn it, is still a part of the problem. This feedback of the bad people being able to hurt us, so we the good people need to be able to hurt them back, only now the bad people have better tools to hurt us with, so now we need be hurt them the same, it's just a loop of aggression and mistrust that creates a bigger problem than it was ever meant to solve. Possibly the biggest issue with this is that good and bad are matters of opinion and nothing more. You brought up rape in you OP and I don't think you'll find anyone who would disagree with you. Rapists are horrible people and the world would certainly be a better place without them, but there is and there will always be a capacity for somebody to say no, getting rid of them isn't the answer. That there are other, better ways to deal with it. And like it or not, they may even be right, but that's not the point. The point is as long as that capacity exists, I don't believe any human should be in a position whare they can decide who deserves the sacred gift of life who doesn't. There are people who have taken that sacred right for themselves and just about all of them are counted as some of the most evil and dangerous people in history. We would all like to believe with that kind of power we wouldn't be a Joseph Stalin, or a Pol Pot or a Saddam Hussain or an Adolf Hitler, but these men were either corrupted to obtain that power or corrupted by that power with the results being same and I don't think any human being is invulnerable to it. What I'm trying to say with all this is that the right to kill, regardless of how and why that right is administered, is destructive and dangerous. Not in that moment of choice whare the individual has to decide, but as a principle. A society that condones and justifies killing will always have "unjustified" killing as well. They go hand in hand together and can't be separated. Humans evolved from predators, violence is an inescapable part of our nature. Because of that, maybe we'll never break from that loop, but I am convinced that justifying killing, regardless of why, is at the very least slowing us down in our evolution away from violence. Killing is wrong, no matter how or why somebody is doing it. -
As described in more detail here, my experience with Nioh was brief and terrible. First, I could barely get the game to run because of a glitch with the resolution compatibility, so it took me an hour just to even get started. Worse, I only ended quitting on the game completely after about 10 minutes because another bug displayed the controller UI when I was using M/K (I didn't even have a controller plugged in, so it made no sense.) and game killed me while I was in the settings trying to fix it. And this was years after the game launched, so there is absolutely no excuse for this. I already hate the "From Software" ideology with the sluggish melee combat and cryptic, "trial and error" approach to difficulty, but I would have at least given the game a fair chance if it didn't copy what is by far that philosophy's most stupid aspect. Seriously, who do these games and dev's think they are to be so arrogant as to not allow such a basic feature of convenance as the pause function? It's like the game is penalising you for being a human being will inevitably need to use the toilet or eat something eventually, not to mention more life priorities like answering the phone, answering the door or your child walking in with tears in thier eye and one of thier arms missing. "Sorry son, you're going to half to walk to the hospital. According to team NINJA, Nioh takes priory.". There is no force in heaven, on earth, or residing in the fiery pits of with by far the music of the music of three that can convince me that this is anything other than fucking stupid. Now obviously, there are time when games not allowing a pause or anything to disrupt the real time of the game world makes sense, mostly refering to sustained multiplayer worlds like MMO's, Fortnite, COD multiplayer and so on, but I will always see this as serious flaw in a single player game. The fact they implement it on purpose doesn't justify it, it only makes it worse and the dev's even more wanting of common sense. Anyway, I apologise for the rant, it's over now. I'll finally get to the topic. I have had my eye on this as a Day 1 Gamepass launch, but my heart sank when I saw who was behind it as I have never had a good experience with these "Soulsborne" games (With the possible expectation of Jedi: Fallen Order, if that counts). So I'll wait and see with this one, even though I'm don't exactly trust other people's opinions on these types of games. I want to be wrong, I want to enjoy these games, but I find them tedious and frustrating. It's not like I don't enjoy challenging games, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West on Ultra Hard are amongst my favourite gaming experiences, I just hate the way that "Soulsborne" games go about it. But rather than break out into another rant, I'll just say please share what you think of the game when it comes and I'll see if it's it's worth playing for me.

Pro wrestling doesn't lie about what it is, but I wouldn't describe it as "fake". It's an act, a show, it's scripted, staged, but not fake. They don't go through the kind of training, injuries and physical hardship that they do for something "fake". To the point though, Pro Wrestling doesn't lie about what it is and that's the difference. This video this guy has put together is not only a lie, it's an incompetent lie.

Sorry guys, but I saw this and had to share it. Now I want to make it clear I do NOT want this person harassed or bothered in any way, but you have to see that there are people out there faking defences for DKOldies for... reasons, and this particular video is as pitiful and obvious a fake as it gets. Couple of issues here. Well, more than a couple, but lets just go with it it. You can see the broken tape on the outside of the box running in the opposite direction of the tape he cut to open the box. Then, even worse, you can see the shipping label on the inside fold of the box. You can tell it's the shipping label through the barcodes the delivery courier uses to scan the package and it had the delivery address on it. The label is, thankfully for this guys sake, tough to make out, but you can tell it's an address. The other label was likely an internal label used by the DKOldies warehouse because I do believe at least the box came from DKOldies, As for the contents? Well, we'll get to that. The point is this box was clearly already opened, that is the only explanation. Otherwise the courier wouldn't have been able to see the address he/she was meant to deliver the package to nor scan the barcode to mark the delivery as complete on thier system. So already this white night from DK Oldies has screwed up. He opened the box then re-taped it with the inside folds on the outside. I mean, wow. Packing peanuts suck. They're messy and very environmentally unfriendly. If that is how DKOldies packed this box, that's a criticism. The other DKOldies unboxings I've seen they haven't used packing peanuts (The one thing DKOldies seems to do well is packaging), adding fuel to the idea that this is fake. That cartridge is a bootleg. I actually hope this guy is white knighting for DKOldies because if he paid DKOldies prices for the original, authentic game cartridges then he got fleeced big time. Why was the cartridge and the console packed in plastic wrap? Shrink wrap is used to hold loose objects and individual bokes together on pallets while they're being shipped in bulk, it's not meant to be wrapped around individual items in a box. I suppose it would prevent dust and fibres from the packing peanuts getting to the connector ports, another good reason not to use packing peanuts in the first place, but it offers no impact protection during shipping. I actually think this kid did that himself because he already owned this stuff and this was a pitiful attempt to make it look like a more professional packing job, but he has obviously never worked in a warehouse or for a delivery courier. That's at least more than the controller had, just thrown in the box with no protection at all. To be fair those N64 controllers are as tough as airline chicken, so I'm sure it'll be fine, but still that's pretty careless. I don't know f this guy is blind or what, but the console is filthy. You can even see whare his fingers had rubbed of the dust. And if the console was indeed packaged like that from DKOldies, that dust must have been there when they packaged the console. Why isn't he mad about this? And if this is his stuff he already had or if he opened the box before (That's not open to debate, this box was opened before), why wouldn't he clean this stuff himself if he's trying to make DKOldies look good? None of this makes any sense. Those odd screws are a sign DKOldies did not open up this console. Nintendo did use these odd shaped fixings in order to prevent tampering and the fact that those fixings are still there makes it likely the console has never been opened. Obviously, that's not proof DKOldies didn't open this as screwdrivers that fits those screws are available and I'm sure DKOldies have such tools, but why even upload the video if you can't open the console? Also, is just me, or were there a couple of screws missing? Not only did he not open the console, he didn't even switch it on! Why not? Doesn't matter if this a fake attempting to make DKOldies look good or a genuine unboxing, he should have at least turned the console on and showed it working. Whare was the power pack or the AV cable? Again, maybe I missed it, but I didn't see them in this video. This being an NTSC N64 I wouldn't to see the AV converter box we PAL people were "blessed" with (More on that shit in this topic if anyone is interested), but those other things being missing are a massive red flag. Whare was the now infamous DKOldies sticker? Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't see it anywhere. For those who don't know, DKOldies places a holographic sticker over screw ports of thier consoles that void the warranty if they are removed which, by the way, in the US is illegal. They only very recently, and very quietly, changed this policy on thier website in the wake of this controversy. To summarise, this kid fooled fooled nobody, and HE should refund DKOldies whatever it was they paid him for this. And if they didn't pay him, well that's just sad.

Well, I'll never unsee that. Thanks for the nightmares, Bandai Namco. I know less than nothing about Naruto Storm, but when it comes to Bandai Namco I'm used to thier games, especially their JRPGs and anime licenced titles, looking a little "last gen" if you know what I mean. However, If you're right and this is made up of scenes, stories and assets from the older games that is pretty shady. That would be fine if they were being upfront about it, but I'm not the one to know.
-
Honestly, like so many indie games (except this technically isn't an indie game, but lets face it, it may as well be) with questionable motives, I find the controversy more interesting than the game itself. Even the controversy is mostly stuff we've heard before with the delays, lack of communication and so on, but it only really got very interesting in the last few weeks. The game disappeared from Steam just weeks before it launching and a reveal gameplay being delayed because the people who are behind this apparently didn't thing to trademark the name. A year and a half since they announced the game, and they never filed a copyright for the name. I mean what the fuck? I don't see it as a scam like some people do. It's not like Star Citizen that charges thousands of dollars for ships and pay-to-win bullshit for a game that even after over a decade is still not out of alpha, but I do think the people behind this have bitten off more than they can chew.

We have briefly introduced already, but welcome to VGR. I'm having a look at you channel (Here it is for everyone else and just so you @BangEm linking to your channel as part of your introduction would been have OK) and it looks like a lot of fun.

Glad to have you here. Welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion. There does seem to be a slight issue with me being in the UK and not America, the being shipping. Even purchasing on amazon's UK store it could take two weeks for the damb thing to arrive. I've wish listed it anyway as it does look good.

I had been using a fairly cheap, but perfectly functional wired gamepad for my laptop the last year or two, but but now discovered that there seams to be a dead zone on one of the analogue sticks. It needs replacing. I'm fairly open minded and would take wired or wireless and would be willing to look at something more expensive than an official XBox controller if the features justify it. There's only a few things to specify: No micro USB connectors, please. Those connections are too fragile and don't have the bandwidth of a USB-C making them pretty much obsolete at this point. If it is a wireless controller, I do want it to use a large dongle. Small dongles are fine, but no the large "Pen Drive" style ones. I intend to use this on a gaming laptop which means I'll physically moving it around. I've been down this road before and those bigger dongles are begging to broken in this situation. Likewise if it's a wireless controller, it needs to actually connect to a PC wirelessly. You would be surprised at how many 3rd party controllers do not connect wirelessly to a PC when they can to a console or a phone. Backlit buttons. I need to be able to see it after putting it down in a dark room. Xbox style orientation of the ABXY buttons. A lot of 3rd party controllers are set to follow the same configuration as the Swich Pro Controller, which is no use to me. Some can be customised to be one or the other and if that's the case, that's fine. Let me know what you guys think of. It'll be a few days before I can buy the controller, so there is time. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
