  1. I've got to give Google credit for offering those refunds. I can say with absolute certainty that other companies would not have done the same.
  2. @runswithspatulas On PC, a game with Denovo DRM increases the recourse requirements of a game through hogging the RAM on your system, reducing the frame rate buy a significant amount. A game that would run at around 60 fps, could run at an unstable 40 fps because of how Denovo install's in the background on your system and runs on your hardware. I've played games on Gamepass and Ubisoft+ on PC, and the check ones connection to the premium service every time you decide to play a game, but once you pass that check, the game runs fine. Denovo is different because hat DRM hurts innocent gamers.
  3. @Candy Stick You confuse me. You state all the correct pessimism, but follow all the wrong optimism. I really don't know how to read you anymore.
  4. I've submitted my vote. The only reason I didn't nominate this individual is because they were nominated already. Best of luck to all of you.
  5. I've seen a video from ReviewtechUSA that makes one think about this from another aspect, how this affects developers. I agree with what Rich says in this video that developers upset about Stadia shutting down should have seen this coming and prepared for it, but it's worth thinking about not only Stadia shutting down, but cloud gaming in general from thier perspective. So, it's an interesting video.
  6. I didn't just ask that for my sake, I'm not the only one who really hates that. Still, I appreciate that, so thank you. I want you to understand something though. It's not just the term and what it means in history that bothers me. As a PC gamer, I find the idea that we are somehow better than other gamers just because of a platform presence abhorrent and fundamentally wrong, and there's a reason. I was once part of a forum and gaming community that was about gamers grouping up and organizing with each other to play games together, but at first they absolutely refused to support those of people played on console and excluded them. Whenever we tried to organise our own game nights on console, they shut us down. Even on cross platform games they set the rules up in such a way that we could not join in. So you see, I'm not just being some "snowflake", "PC Master Race" is an attack of the very principles I hold as a gamer. None of the arrogance and elitism that some PC gamers feel is justified and just like how me and a few others refused to let to let it be acceptable back then, I refuse to let it be acceptable now. Anyway, rant over. Once again, thank you for being cool about this.
  7. Fallout New Vegas handled this about as well as any game I've played. A pure role play in that game does show you something about yourself. Some of the factions are a little more obviously evil, but most of them are not yin nor yang and have you can understand thier motivations whether you agree with them or not.
  8. I followed a walkthrough published in a magazine for Zelda OOT and I will never make that mistake again, at least not for a first playthrough. I won't say it ruined the game, but it did take something away. I will look stuff up if I get truly stuck or of things get cryptic, but I try to avoid walkthroughs and they they serve me as a last resort.
  9. This is not my sort of thing, but this does look cool. It's nice to see these guys break out on thier own and work on a more passion fuelled project freed from EA's shackles.
  10. This has, sadly, been a common occurrence even before this, like with Bayonetta 2 on Nintendo Switch. Worse, this is only going to become more commonplace with Microsoft buying up companies like Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard. I'm not saying it's not a pile of rancid bullshit, because it is, but complaining about it is not going to change anything.
  11. "PC Master Race" isn't a joke, it's the mating call of insecure fanboys who don't even realise that they're comparing themselves to Nazi's. I hate that term with a passion. Do PC players like being called basement dwellers? No, so why should console players put up with that "joke"? Honestly, I'd avoid that term on VGR.
  12. Horizon Forbidden West. Decided to start a NG+ playthrough.
  13. The only thing that Skyrim on Switch had going for it was the fact that you could play it on the go as a portable version of the game, and the most critical word in that sentence was "had", as in past tense. With the emergence of portable gaming PC's like the Aya Neo and the Steam Deck, these ports on Switch don't really have that going for them anymore. So somebody at Nintendo and/or Bethesda thought it would be great idea to make the Switch port even less appealing than it already was by jacking up the price?
  14. I simply do not trust these things. These play-to-earn are just another part of this Blockchain, NFT, Cryptocurrency and all that stupid shit. It's At the absolute best its a relentless grind on a crappy game to earn a pittance, but calling them a con would probably be closer to the truth.
  15. We have a general chat section including a forum games section that's there for a reason, the problem was (and I do say was as this problem has come under control in recent months on VGR) is that none of the culprits used the thread the way they were supposed to.
  16. Seasonal music is pointless. A shitty song with a halloween theme is just as shitty on Halloween as it is on every other day of the year. Likewise good song with a halloween theme is a good song and with listening to whenever. It's the same with Christmas music. However, this music useally falls on the shitty side because the concept is creatively inept Such music is made to lazily grab airtime year on year. Not to mention I'm a metalhead, so listen to music thematic to themes one would associate with Halloween all the time anyway, expect it's good music.
  17. Welcome to VGR, happy to have you here.
  18. It's mostly down to the size of the textures. Sharper, more detailed textures, especially when they're meant to be displayed on higher resolution screens, take up more space. And quite obviously the bigger tha open world, the more textures it contains and the more space it will take up. Open worlds will also take up more space because thier textures are going to be viewed at wider variety of angles and distances. Open worlds also will have more opjects with their own boundaries to be programmed in rather that just being textures that can't be interacted with.
  19. This asshole isn't sorry for the ignorant and utterly disrespectful statement that me made because he believes in it even now. In his mind as a cooperate cake top anyone working in the games industry who isn't operating to make money regardless of the cost of integrety is, like he said, a fucking idiot. He was probably shocked that there was a backlash to that because isn't making money the whole and sole point of doing this? It's bad enough that he insulted game developers for actually wanting to entrain people and express themselve creativity in their endeavours, but the fact he was so surprised by the news that not everyone shares his perspective that video games only exist to exploit audiences and harvest money just shows what the cooperate culture is really like at the top in this industry. No integrety, no shame and no respect for the process of making games, the people who make them and especially not the people who buy them.
  20. In Horizon Zero Dawn, you want to do the side missions as it can and does unlock character interactions in the main game. There are also side quests like reaching Prince Itanam, Ersa's fate and The Nora's revenge that are a part of the main story as far as I'm concerned.
  21. This is exactly why I don't buy these kind of games. I'm not buying a game to play on a publishers schedule.
  22. Please do so if you wish. You're more than welcome to post questions as well as your thoughts and opinions.
  23. I really don't think that should be a concern. Steam OS is Linux based and is already desinged to run on the same hardware as Windows, just like those (stupid) Steam Machines from a few years ago. And if running Windows on the steam deck does cause issues, I don't think it would be unfair to pass at least part of the blame onto the steam deck. I think you're 100% correct when you say that Valve will be assholes with your Steam Deck's warranty, but I don't think this should put anybody off doing this with their staem deck if they want.
  24. I can't even pretend to be surprised, but Skull and Bones has been delayed yet again. The game was due for release in November, but has now been delayed to March 2023. From Kotaku.
