What games took you much longer than the “average” completion time?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I rarely finish games within the "average" time mostly because I spend so much time looking through every nook and cranny for loot, resources and other stuff. -
I'm going to post the guidelines and go through them point by point to help you better understand the purpose and what the policy is asking you to do. The TL;DR is these rules are ion place too prevent spam, phishing scams and unpermitted promotional posts and affiliate post. Fairly self explanatory for most part. This is a gaming forum, we don't want people telling us great deals on car insurance or power tools, it's not what this forum is about. It's a common spam tactic to post a link to "this game I just happened to find and I'm TOTALLY not associated with" on Steam and other platforms whether it's discounted or not. This helps root such posts out. Besides, the sub-forum is called "Video Game Deals", there no place in it for games at full price. This part is obviously involves a judgment call on the part of both the one posting the deal and moderation team. You might trust a seller that I don't and vice versa, so it's your responsibility to choose your seller wisely and justify that choice if requested by one of the mod team. In this case, your deals are on Steam, something that is obviously a trusted seller, so this isn't relevant in this case, but it's worth remembering. On top of the aforementioned reason of only wanting discounted video games talked about here, having a format to follow make spam posts more easily spotted as they tend to be copy-pasted from a generic text. This format also just helps posts remain accurate and people can have all the information they need and not get confused if they click on a link to a discounted game after the deal has ended to go to a game that's full price. That's why it's YOUR responsibility to include and end date date for the deal in you post. The images you posted do not show when these deals end, you have to mention it. This is the part whare you have gotten a little confused. We WANT you to include links to the deals, it's kind of necessary, what we don't want is people posting misleading and/or dangerous links. I'm going to do a mock post of the Planet Coaster deal you mentioned to show you what I'm on about. You don't have to format you post on video game deals exactly like this, just consider this a guide. Hi VGR. Just saw this discount on Planet Coaster on Steam and wanted to share it. There is nothing wrong with including an image to show the offer. It's actually a good idea as it helps prove the offer's legitimacy and shows a lot of additional information. The image I have used I sniped from the game's sore page on the desktop app. That's a good place to take the shot from as the end date of the offer is actually displayed, so that base is now covered along with the item, the sale price and what website/store the offer is available on. You'll notice I still list those things anyway because it's a good habit. As you can see, the is a 95% discount on Steam running until the 30th of May 2024 (I highly recommend writing out an end date full like this including the year as somebody might come across this the years after it was posted and cause confusion. Use of a numbered date numbered date can also cause confusion as some counties format it differently than others.) bringing a £29.99 game down to £1.49 (Show the price as you see it on your local store page, let others worry about currency conversions. If you wish to show the price in another currency as a courtesy you can, I often do as I live outside the US, but don't consider it necessary.). Find the game on offer at this link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/493340/Planet_Coaster/ (This is the kind of link that IS allowed. The bare link that has not been shortened or hidden so the person reading can see it's genuine) This is a hyperlink. This tool is accessible in the tool tab above the text box by clicking on the icon highlighted in the image below. If you click on this, you'll find it still goes to the Steam store page for Planet Coaster, but it can be used to hide the destination URL, so these are NOT permitted in this sub-forum for security reasons. They are free to use elsewhere on the forum. (Shortened URL's like this one I generated that also goes to the Planet Coaster store page https://shorturl.at/KHXqj are also banned for the same reason, but unlike hyperlinks are not welcome anywhere on the forum.) To summarize: (This is something I like to do just to make sure I hit all the points) This is for the game Planet Coaster This deal is on Steam at the link provided https://store.steampowered.com/app/493340/Planet_Coaster/ The game is on offer at £1.49 instead of the usual £29.99 The Deal is on at the time of this posting and runs until the 30th of May (You may have noticed I didn't include the "required" start date. That's because the Steam page doesn't list it. Saying this can help get around that problem, but if there is no start date for the offer, you don't need to include it. Just be sure the deal has been made available at the time you post about it. However, for the reasons I explained earlier, the end date must be included.) This last part is fairly self explanatory. This policy of the these rules and guidelines being subject to change without notice applied both here and for our Overall Forum Rules and Guidelines, so try to remember to check in on these rules from time to time. I hope that clears everything up.

There's a difference between a game that's easy and a game that's easy to play. That what these gaming elitist gatekeepers don't understand.

Games you love that are fashionable to dislike?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I did a little homework, and I think the issue was "The Spacer's Choice Edition", what was to the The Outer Worlds was the Special Edition was to Skyrim, an updated version with the DLC included and better visuals. According to user reviews, it was badly optimised on both PC and console with little to no improvement in the visuals with some claiming it actually looked worse than the original. I guess I just wasn't paying attention when all of this was going on. -
Games you love that are fashionable to dislike?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Could you elaborate a little on that? The thing is The Outer Worlds has been, as far I'm aware, a generally well received game. For me, it's games that follow or at least resemble the "Ubisoft" style of open world. The concept is somewhat overused, I admit, but is still done in unique and creative ways, like in the Horizon franchise. -
What games are most badly spoiled by spoilers?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I thought the answer would be obvious, but narrative driven games and any game heavy on problem solving. -
Honestly, no. I think certain people and fanbases say that to put down people for enjoying more mainstream and less complicated games. Soulsborne and CRPG fans I find are practically bad for this.

With all due respect, the arrogance of some PC players astounds me. What is it going to take to make this portion of PC players understand that just because a game was originally on console that doesn't mean it will run on hamster spinning a wheel? Did you even look to see what the PC requirements were? Well, here they are as listed on Playstation's website and the performance you're getting with that hardware sounds about right to me, maybe slightly lower than it should be. And by the way, I'd hardly consider a 3070Ti a "beastly" GPU in 2024. I have this game on PC as well on inferior hardware to yourself (a laptop with a 2060, 24GB's of RAM and an Intel 10750H) and I get 1080p at around 40-50fps with medium-high settings. For a game with the kind of graphical fidelity and level of detail HFW has, I think that's superb. Based on that, I'd say this is a fantastic port, one of the best I've seen in a while. My advice to you would be to double check your settings because I think that's whare your problem might lie. For example, you have the wrong frame-gen options selected.

@kensonplays We do have Guidelines and Rules concerning threads on this sub forum. These rules cover the allowed and disallowed content and format threads need to follow in this sub-forum are in place to prevent the posting of affiliate links and spam. Since this thread is clearly neither of those things, I'll take no action, but please read, understand and try to adhere these rules in the future.

I don't mind games being hard, but I hate game's being cheap. Difficulty spikes are probably the cheapest programming tactic there is, I absolutely hate them. If there're not there in error, and they rarely are, it's likely I'll stop playing the game completely. They are so often used to artificially create challenge or pad out the length a game. One exception is Skyrim, more specifically battling mages. Magic in Skyrim is so horrendously balanced, especially at higher levels. Enemy magic get's insanely strong, whilst the player's magic just get weaker and weaker. If I'm going into a combat situation or dungeon whare I know I'll be dealing with hostile mages, I'll often turn the difficulty down in anticipation of what's coming.

If Psychics Can Read the Future, Why Don't They Win the Lottery?
Shagger replied to killamch89's topic in General Chat
I think I can see whare this is going... -
First and foremost, welcome to VGR. Moving this thread the the Video Games Sub-Forum as this topic is about a specific game and not a general gaming topic. I definitely agree this trailer is "all-too-short", it makes it difficult to even develop much of an opinion with so little to go on, but if this game is what I expect it could be interesting. Something similar to the old point-and-click puzzle games from back in the day. I'll keep an eye on this and decide later if it's for me once I've seen a little more.

Activision opens up new studio called Elsewhere Entertainment
Shagger replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
Yes they did, more specifically Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Games. I'd like to think due to the timing that Activision folded those studios into this new studio so those people are still employed, but given how this new studio boasts talent from Naughty Dog, Ubisoft and CDPR, that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks to me that those four relatively small studios have had the shutters drawn on them to fund this new studio, which is pretty appalling on Activation's part. Not that I'm surprised, Activision are a bucket of scum. The silver lining is that the focus of this new studio Elsewhere Entertainment will be on narrative games instead of the "live service" snake oil major publishers have been so desperately peddling the last few years. I'm sure Elsewhere Entertainment will make good games, but there will always be a bitter aftertaste to them. Like a baby with a birth defect, you love it all the same, but always regret it had to begin the way it did. -
First off, welcome to VGR. We have a separate sub-forum set aside for people to share video game deals (That I have moved this thread to). Please post further offers you wish to share there and refer to the specific rules and guidelines for that sub-forum.

Honestly, I've actually seen way more people piss and moan about the supposed backlash against the provocative character design in Stellar Blade than people actually complaining about the provocative character design in Stellar Blade itself, even amongst press articles. I'm sure if one tried to find it one would find somebody complaining about it, it is the internet after all, but I don't think it's been that big of a deal. It's certainly no reason to worry about censorship in GTA, an entirely different game series that has no relation to Stellar Blade in any way and is obviously catered to adults as well is being infamously provocative and controversial in concept. Not to mention that nothing in Stellar Blade has even changed as a result of this "backlash". In other words, nobody is taking away your tits and ass, and they couldn't if they wanted to, so calm the fuck down.

Ubisoft's The Division Heartland Officially Cancelled
Shagger replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
I remember the announcement and the empty void of nobody caring that followed. Not exactly sad to see it cancelled. -
Rolling on the Floor Laughing: Funniest TV Show Ever?
Shagger replied to killamch89's topic in Movies & TV
A three way tie between Friends, Brooklyn 99 and Red Dwarf for me. I tend to lean towards comedies that on paper should not work and those are three great examples of shows that had no right to be as funny as they were. -
What is it in the trailer that we've all seen that prompts censorship and political correctness to be such a concern? That paired with the content that made it into GTAV makes me wonder whare that concern has come from.

I do think that these early RE games needed a serious revamp to appeal to modern audiences. Back then the solution to make the games tense and desperate through the controls were born, at least in part, out of the limitations of the technology of the time. In other words, I do not fully agree with you @Knight Plug on Capcom's motivation for remastering these games. What additions and omissions that have happened to these remasters I feel are born out of a genuine motive to modernise them whilst still trying to maintain the atmosphere. Having said that, It's been 9 years (Correct me if I'm wrong) since RE1 was remastered. Whilst that wasn't exactly yesterday, a modern revamp of the original Resident Evil does seem kind of unnecessary. I would much rather see Code Veronica X get the treatment that have it happen to RE1 again because I feel that game was made by a capcom that wanted to modernise Resident Evil but didn't have a clear focus on how to do it. I go into to this in more detail on this thread, but here's the relevant part of that post again: I genuinely feel that with a Code Veronica X remaster Capcom could pull a Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and bring us the game it was always meant to be. Again correct me if I'm wrong, but that game IS Leon's origin in the RE universe, so with how popular RE4 is I suspect there would be a lot of interest in that. But hey, what to I know.

Sony start mandating PSN accounts for Helldivers 2, anger community
Shagger replied to killamch89's topic in Gaming News
It's over, Sony has walked back this policy. Full story from Gamesradar. Like I said in my earlier post, I don't believe there was any ill intent intent behind this, Sony just completely failed to think this through. Well now, they had to learn the hard way. Glad to see they've listened. -
So sorry for your loss.

A few that come to mind worth checking out; Carmageddon: An instrumental version of Fear Factory's Demanufacture album. Enough said. Primal. A soundtrack comprised of all original songs from the band 16Volt. There is a heat pounding violence to this sound along side a haunting, daunting atmosphere The game itself is an underrated PS2 classic as well that really needs to be played by more people. Playlist: The Burnout Games. I know, this is a little bit of cheating as these are playlists made up of licensed songs, but they are very compilations worth checking out. I'll even extend that to Burnout Paradise, even the game itself is a piece of shit. Even though it is all licenced music, some of the games did something clever with it by muffling the music while you were not boosting and that served as a genuine incentive to go hell for leather just to keep hearing the music like it was meant to be heard. Very smart audio design. I'll just post the intro to Burnout 3: Takedown as a taste of what to expect: Here is a Youtube Channel dedicated to the music in the games to check out https://www.youtube.com/@CrashFMBurnout The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim It may be a familiar score, in fact the main theme is the same one from previous Elder Scrolls games, but man it upgraded big time for Skyrim. If you actually stop and listen to it, it's a very dramatic, full sound that is easy on the ear and very pretty at times too. Goldeneye (N64) I know that this soundtrack is mostly comprised of remixes of the James Bond theme, but the are original mixes and sounded fantastic, and on N64 no less. They still sound fantastic a quarter of a century later. I would go so far to say that this video game has the best version of the James Bond theme I have heard in my entire life, full stop. That alone more than deserves a shout out. Final Fantasy XIII I don't care that this game sucks, the music is fantastic, one of the best soundtracks in any FF game. I have got to be honest, I do think FFX's soundtrack is better, but I decided to focus on FFXIII as I feel this great soundtrack gets overlooked because the game itself was a bit shit. It has that serene, yet chaotic feel to it that's very unique and pleasant to hear. Screamer A little known DOS racing game from 1995 that I played a lot as a kid. I love it back then, but having a better understand of what was out at the time, specially on consoles, I can see the game as being pretty mediocre. However, if your PC was able to run the soundtrack direct from the CD-ROM, you were treated to the original recorded versions of the game's digitized rock music soundtrack that sounded amazing.

Sony start mandating PSN accounts for Helldivers 2, anger community
Shagger replied to killamch89's topic in Gaming News
I feel like the reason Sony has decided to do this is to stop players who were previously banned from the game for whatever reason on one platform from re-joining the game on the other. Given the game is cross platform, I can actually understand this at least to some extent. So whilst I think there was no ill intent, Sony have clearly not thought this through. The fact this might effectively bar people from playing the game because PSN is not available in all countries whare Steam is available a huge oversight. If this was always the plan, they should have shown people the big, flashing sign with the siren saying "You WILL eventually need to link a PSN account to your Steam account to keep playing" before people bought the game. That's the part that really bothers me. -
This is without doubt the best song title I have ever heard.
