New Studies Link Loot Boxes To Gambling Addiction. This Could Cause Some Issues For Greedy Publishers Going Forward

Recommended Posts

I think even the trading cards fall into addiction but they are not gambling. A lot of point collection based games also fall into that but they are definitely not the gambling considering you do get what you want for trading those points. But it can be turned into lootbox or gamble stuff too, both online and offline.

That's a valid point but the key here is it depends on how they're offering it. You see, trading cards have been around for eons and yet we see nowhere near the levels of addictions compared to loot boxes. The thing with trading cards is that 90% or more of a particular franchise are normally available barring the few legendary cards. In the case of lootboxes, even basic useful stuff aren't widely available.
