If they announce it too early and can't live up to the expectations, then the only smart thing to do is cancel. Better that than another rushed game. There's no argument that the money was poorly spent but why spend on such mediocre things now when you could invest that money into the project and probably earn 5 to 10 times that at least. Seriously, rushed games never live up to their expectations and it makes no sense in the end, so I do not accept the cancelation whenever it's done.
