Shagger
I've seen game modding discussed on these forums mostly in an "in a reference" and specific kind of way. But, for us as a community, to discuss game modding in the aim to create a pool of advice in the effort to make game modding easier and more accessible, I feel is a noble task. I know game modding can be somewhat daunting to people who haven't tried it, and lets be honest, it can be a pain in the ass for those that have. As aforementioned, modding has been discussed before on VGR. I'm in an ongoing effort to merge older topics discussing game modding into one thread, that thread being the previous version of the Gaming Mod Thread, that will now serve a a refence for people to check on what has been discussed before. Any new information and discussion you wish to bring to VGR on the subject on Modding games, please post it on this thread. The purpose of this thread to discuss game modding in a more general way, rather than have it come up on occasion in a thread for a specific game. So regardless of game or platform, tell all of us what game(s) you modify, how to modify them and the benefits they bring. Tell us what software and websites you use to point people in the right direction and offer advice and instructions on how to do so. Likewise if you have a game you want to mod, ask here and the VGR community will help you as best we can. This is not a PC only thread, limited modding is available on console as well, so posts on that are just as welcome. A couple of ground rules: Don't post content that's designed to give an advantage in an online multiplayer. Single player cheats and enhancements are fine, but anything that could offer an unfair advantage or paid advantage for free is prohibited (don't get me wrong, I hate pay-to-win as much as anyone, but we can't host methods to circumvent them here.). Make clear the risks of download (if any) from the host website. Mods can cause crashes and slowdowns, so make sure you link the page that makes these risks clear and how to install the said mod correctly. Don't post links to content that would violate the regular rules on the VGR forms including, but not limited to Pornographic content, nudity and otherwise indecent content. If you find or download such content on the sites mentioned in any post on this thread keep it to yourself, but don't talk about it here. Hate fuelled content towards any race, religious belief, sexual orientation, political bias, background or social minority. Anything else considered worth review. In other words, if you think you might get in trouble for posting certain content in the gaming forums here, I'd suggest you not post post info on a similar mod here either. If in doubt, please ask either me @Shaggeror @DC. Ill start out immediacy with two words, Nexus Mods. This is THEE website to download mods. It has it's own brand of mod management service called Vortex (Free and Safe to Download), premium services and optional donations to support modder's and literally hundreds of thousands of mods over dozens of games. This is the first stop. I'll also suggest, especially if you want to mod Bethesda games, to look up Game Script Extenders. The benefits of those I'll let you explore for yourself using the link, but so many mods on PC depend on these apps being installed. In a nutshell, they are alternate game launch applications that allow access to Console Commands (Google Search) designed to support testers and developers, but we can use them as well, he he. Each game will have it's own script extender, so be sure to download the right one. Head_Hunter

Shagger
A link to a PC Gamer article that has compiled some of the best mods for Skyrim. I've installed and used some of these, but there's a couple here I didn't know about that I definitely plan to download first chance I get. Shagger
@StaceyPowers. I saw the other post you made concerning mossing the Playstation version of Skyrim. Sadly, modding on the PS4 version is limited compared to PC and even Xbox, but I found this article to help you get started. https://www.thegamer.com/skyrim-best-ps4-mods/

I didn't realize how much Skyrim was already a focus in this thread, so hadn't thought to click on it (and this thread is a great idea, btw). The Blackangel
Despite not being much of a PC gamer, I think it would be a good idea that I keep up with this thread. I know nothing about modding, and think I could learn a lot here. So I'll be asking a lot of questions. It may seem like I'm in the wrong thread at times, but I feel my ignorance should be a good reason for me to post here. So my first question, is to @Shagger What did the mods you installed do? I see your screenshots, but since I'm an extreme n00b to Skyrim, I have no idea what you changed.

I see your screenshots, but since I'm an extreme n00b to Skyrim, I have no idea what you changed. I'm playing the Special Edition Version of Skyrim on PC, so the mods I'm linking to are the mods compatible with that version of the game. Most important and the first mod anyone should install is the Skyrim Script Extender. It's a mod that creates an alternate executable file for the game that gives the player, as well as external files and applications, access to Console Commands and script editing. Most mods other than the simplest mods on PC need this to work. To install, select the appropriate file form the link I gave you, and download the file. Next move the file to your Skyrim folder on you PC (usually found under Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common, I would show a screenshot, but my Skyrim folder is installed in a different location to the default) then using an archive access app, such as 7-Zip, extract the folder into your Skyrim folder. Once that's done, your Skyrim folder should look something like this; As the cursors tell you, you now have a different .exe file to use to start the game. In that screenshot there is also a shortcut I created to that file that I eventfully copied to my desktop, a good thing to do to ensure so you don't get the Script Extender executable file mixed up with the standard one. The next thing you need to do is download the Vortex Mod Manager and create an account to start using nexus mods. The process is fairly straight forward and there's plenty of tips and videos online to help tech yourself how to use VMM, but I'll obviously help out as best I can if you need help with a specific problem. We (The VGR community) will obviously be try to assist yourself and anyone else as best we can with trying to install mods, so feel free to ask any and all questions you have. There are no stupid questions nor problem too small. Now onto the question you asked about the images. The first image is of a player home mod called Sjel Blad Castle and it's pretty self explanatory, It's a massive, beautiful fully equiped and furnished player home complete with followers, displays and convenience features such as a teleport system to help you move around the place and an auto-sort system for you inventory. The others are just an illustration of some of the enhanced visuals mods I've installed. They basically replace some of the textures and effects that are in the game with other textures and effects created by other people other than the game dev's. A mixture of Realistic Lighting, Realistic Water, This Cites overhaul, This OTHER Cities overhaul, 3D Trees and Plants, Trees in Cities and a Flora Overhaul. They may be more at work than just those, but those are some of the good ones. I've installed other mods to improve the gameplay and immersion such as Rich Merchants so one doesn't have to wonder to town after town to sell of swag, a First Person Perspective overhaul that has the actions as they are in third person mode display in first person (This mod is great, but it does take some getting used to as by default the primary weapon is on the left with secondary on the right, but while dual wielding as I like to do, the weapons look like they've swapped around) mods that add Better NPC AI, Better Follower AI, more Jewellery, Weapons and Armour options to the game. There's other things like new followers, questlines, character creation mods and alternate face/body textures, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, I think I may have offered enough for now. Like i said previously, please ask if there's something you want to know Edited June 28, 2021 by Shagger Reality vs Adventure

That sounds more some sort of compatibility problem. Minecraft looking the way it does I seriously doubt that it has with ray tracing effects.
