Elements of banality adding weirdly to video game ambiance

Recommended Posts

When I think about elements that add to the ambiance of my favorite games (BioShock), I’m somewhat surprised by their banality. Things like vending machine sounds and advertisements. But I guess banalities like these make a world feel more real and lived-in—and if they are artfully executed, add to its beauty. Thoughts on this or other examples?

Indeed, those vending machines sound are way too off for the game because it lacks some sort originality by existing in the game.
