Security For The Paranoid

Recommended Posts

Ever since getting hacked in 2017, I've really stepped up my security protocol especially over the net. For instance, I have 2FA enabled on every online account that supports it and I use the Aegis Authenticator App to store the codes. I also have a password manager that helps me to create long, randomized passwords for all my online accounts. I also have Yubikeys for said accounts as a back-up option to verify my accounts and they have the advantage of being a physical option. My primary USB drive with my most important files is stored on Aegis encrypted flash drive with a physical keypad to enter the code. If input incorrectly after 5 times, it'll be completely wiped. My secondary USB drive as well as my SSD are also encrypted and require both fingerprint and a password to open them and they're both wiped after 5 incorrect attempts.

I use Sync as my cloud to store my most important files and it has bank encryption and 2FA to prevent anybody but me from accessing it. That being said, I also encrypted my files with Crytomator so that's double the protection. In addition to that, I have encrypted the drives on my PC with veracrypt so that way, no hackers can gain access to my files. In addition to that, I use Virustotal, Apkpure and Checkshorturl to check all links, apps or files that I may download or click to see if they're legit. There's more I could add but that's just the basics. What's your security setup like?

Windows defender +  Encrypted Notes apps (evernote, standard notes) + Authy 2FA + regular changing passwords.

So far this has worked out for me. I don't browse porn so there is less keylogging that happens on desktop.

I do however spend time on torrent for many reasons and have decided to use sandbox before downloading any executable or graphics asset. You never know.

But this stuff works for me.

Hackers are like ninjas. It is possible that an elite ninja will track you down and beat you up, but it's not very likely. That's not to say you shouldn't learn self defence, it just means you're probably not going to come across the worst of the worst in every day life. Just having everything updated on your network and firewalls are always on and having Windows defender on as it's built into all system. Wel, unless you using mac.

I don't browse porn either so I don't really have those issues and I don't torrent either so I'm unlikely to run into downloading any malware.

There's a video about Google discovering the flaws in IOS encryption that has dated back to 2014 and Apple only patched their system in 2019 after Google warned them. From what I hear on the Dark net, Apple products are far easier to hack and their claims about safety is pure marketing BS.

I think especially with torrent even if you like download the torrent for some linux image unless it's from official source, there is definitely risk of malware.

And that's why I don't torrent plus there's a new malware going around and it's found in more recent torrent files.

Yeah that is definitely one thing that can be done. By encrypting that partition however it becomes harder to do passive sync for some software as regularly the encrypted disk would demand for the session password.

I only keep certain things there like crypto wallets so no hacker can access it even if they somehow got access to my device.
