The pressure with most action - adventure games makes them adrenaline rush games. Multiplayer games also offers adrenaline rush, because you need techniques to win games. I think part of the reason for the super fast running speeds is that devs want to make exploration feel more dynamic and less tedious, especially when the map is huge. But yeah, walking speeds can be frustrating in games like Skyrim where it feels like I’m dragging my feet if I'm not sprinting. I don’t know if there’s a perfect balance, but some games seem to get it right more than others, like Spider-Man on PS4, where swinging around feels just right.
