Kane99
And before anyone says that we already have it, yes I know. Microtransactions and loot boxes have pretty much been our version of gambling in games. But, with the recent news of sports betting blowing up as of late, it got me thinking that video games could be the next one to offer some sort of real gambling. I hope it never happens honestly, because the whole idea is dumb. If it were to happen, they wouldn't be able to let any of these games go to kids and they'd for sure have to find a method of making sure those playing are actual legal adults. But, do you think there's a possibility this can happen in future video games? Or maybe we'll start to see games released with gambling options. What do you guys think? Could this be a real possibility? Also, I'm not referring to gambling on video games themselves, as in betting on a game between people. I'm referring to actual gambling options built into the games themselves, where you can win money playing the game. Sorry in advance if this has caused any confusion. The Blackangel
You can already gamble through apps as if you were actually in a casino. Real money, virtual slot machine. Virtual poker. Virtual blackjack. All with real money. I don't remember the title, but there was a game released, that the more you played, the more money you could make doing it. I think it was a mobile game and went the way of the dodo several years ago. As for being able to verify age, most of the time you have to have a credit card and ID to put on file with the app/game. There's obviously no IOU's in this. DC

Because once it hits consoles, kids will find a way to abuse it somehow. There was this game I used to play to get prizes, but it wasn't worth it. You'd get some cheap priced thing from Amazon for completing challenges and stuff. Was a waste of time, kinda like lottery. 😄 And yeah, if they were to do gambling video games, they would have to require some kind of ID check to play. Only fair in my opinion. I couldn't see any games being passed without some kind of ID check for people who play.
Darth
I presume you mean in more normal games than ones that actually make sense to have gambling in it like poker. I don't think it will be a huge problem, to be honest because real gambling will result in games being given the maximum age rating. So for those games that are targeted at all ages, publishers will be a little bit reluctant to implement it. Especially since they can just keep microtransactions in games to make money. onii chan
if they did add gambling to games i wouldn't even attempt at trying to play them because i know full well there will be so many different rules that'll make the company have a big edge, just like how card counters avoid online blackjack because the rules and house advantage just isn't worth it most of the time. idk about you but im not a fan of losing my money 😂
m76
I think lootboxes are real gambling. The only difference is that with real gambling you have the chance however marginal to win a big prize. With lootboxes you ever loose, because even if you get what you wanted, it is a digital item that literally costs nothing to the company selling the lootboxes. So the dealer wins no matter what. Boblee
It would definitely diversify the gaming industry because everything we used to know about games would be changed totally. I'm not sure if it's going to be healthy to games.

Hardcore gamblers are definitely going to be the most set of people who are into games that would be seriously waiting for this kind of upgrades to be done in video games. Exactly, there's literally no worth to it. Unless maybe with games like Counter-Strike where you can buy/sell skins/weapons. etc. But most games don't have a system where you can resell your items, so they are technically useless. I mean more in regards to actual gambling games being released on consoles and PC. Not as a mechanic in an video game, but the whole idea of the game. So think of a slots game, but instead of being on mobile, it released on major hardware instead. And that is a good point. The ESRB rating would probably be adult rated for games that are just about gambling. I can see some publishers not selling games like that if that is the case too. Justin11
Gaming should be kept as video games and not gambling. When you want to gamble via video games you can simply do it on a personal choice with a fellow gamer either online or offline mode.

Most game's publishers would most likely switch to making such games because it's going to have more number of players unlike ones that's off gambling. Heatman
Seriously, with the pace these companies are getting at with their use of loot boxes and microtransactions, it wouldn't take too long for them to embrace gambling in games full time.
