Americans Should Be More Upset About The Right Wing Assault On Education And Teachers

What's he going to do next, ban black history MONTH? This is nothing but unabashed racism. He's such a bigot, I bet he's would try to deport anyone with dark hair out of the state to anywhere else if he could.

And trying to make colleges tell him everything about their courses and deciding for them what will and will not be allowed? One of the scariest things is that at the moment he's one of the front runners for the republiKKKlan nomination in the next presidential election.

Anyone who's not a right wing bigoted coward should be VERY worried at the moment.

I wouldn't doubt if he banned any photos, assignments, or discussions of black history month in schools. Technically, he already did because teachers no longer can discuss anything related to racism in classes. So yeah, black history month is not legal to be discussed. I don't see how the federal constitution or even the state constitution is not preventing any of this.

What is interesting though, DeSantis passed a bill to require all schools to teach the awareness of communism, while at the same time banning everything he considers woke. How can you force schools to teach something you want to bring awareness to, but ban discussions of racism and African American studies that would bring awareness to those issues.

Now that is hypocritical, and just in your face telling you that DeSantis can do anything he wants under Florida's constitution, which is probably being interpreted by his handpicked judges. Tell me, is that not some hypocritical bullshit?

This is what Florida classrooms look like now, forced to cover their books because the state is vetting out all books.

This is what fascist dictatorship looks like. This shit is no joke. Florida teachers can now get a felony charge and 5 years prison if they don't hide books or get rid of them.

This is what the book shelf looked like.

This freedom is DEAD IN FLORIDA.

Texas just announced the state will take over the Houston school district which would be one of the largest state take overs of a school in U.S. history. That means voted school officials will get the boot and replaced by appointed officials. They will control everything from budget, what books they can have, and of course control what funds go to charter schools. That is the true reason. Republicans want to eliminate the public school system and draw public funds to be used for private schools where they can do the real indoctrinating while privately operated. This whole school fiasco republicans kept crying about how they want parental rights, but which is it now? What do you republicans want? Do you want parental rights or a state takeover? Wanting both is straight up hypocrisy. How in the world are governors allowed to have so much power over the education system? Maybe the USA has never been free after all. Maybe republicans have simply found loop holes that allows a dictatorship. Cause I don't see any constitution stopping this. How is it legal standing to get rid of elected officials and appoint your own stooges in the school system? There is a reason people vote for school officials. That freedom has been taken away in Texas and Florida.

A big win for freedom just occurred because a judge in Texas has ordered all books that were banned in public libraries must be put back on the shelves immediately within 24 hours as the bans have been ruled unconstitutional. There were even thousands of digital books that republicans banned from the online libraries. Fucking thousands of books!!! At least there is one judge left in Texas that upholds the constitution. We can expect republicans to find a way to replace him and threaten him and his family because that is what they do now.

The attack on education continues and now all public libraries across the U.S. are under attack. Not only the books on shelves, but digital books are being banned by the thousands taking away access and the freedom to be able to read what you want. This case in Llano County Texas, I spoke too soon. The judge that ordered the library to return all books to the shelves has dismissed part of his ruling about digital books, which will remain banned which has 17,000 books! And the books being banned they call it porn. But one of the books banned was titled: "They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group" and “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents." How is that porn? One is a book how the KKK were a terrorist group. They were a terrorist group. They tortured and killed people for decades. If it were a book about the taliban being a terrorist group, I'm sure that book would be perfectly fine right???

Now that books are court ordered to be put back on shelves, republicans are trying to shut down the library. This is happening across the country now. Republicans are shutting down libraries. They want to ban whatever book they want, ban all digital books, and when it doesn't go their way they try to shut down the library. Republicans are also attacking all the online libraries too. Thousands and thousands of books can be found digitally through library systems and elsewhere. Republicans are now trying to shut it all down so that we can't access books over the internet.

https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/library-apps-book-ban-schools-conservative-parents-rcna26103

Republicans are allowing people to sue libraries, to vote to shut down libraries, bills to jail librarians, ban all digital books, and ban books on the shelves. Anything they don't like. And it has got nothing to do with porn at this point. They are banning everything they disagree with.

Well guess what. Looks like republican religious fanatics are getting a taste of their own medicine. The Davis School District in Utah has banned the bible in elementary and middle schools due to vulgar content, porn and violence that is not appropriate for kids under their new book ban laws. I'm very surprised that Utah of all places would even be honest and fair about this since the state is a huge Mormon christian state. This makes perfect sense though that if you want to go around banning books then the Bible should also be banned based on the same principle of age inappropriate content. This just unraveled the entire christian plan of forcing religion into public schools. Oops! Looks like that backfired. So now in all fairness, is the bible going to be banned in every state that bans books? Well, it should be challenged in all those states. So when republicans that have banned books decide not to include the Bible ban in their state, then that shows none of this really had anything to do with kids at all, but really was just a religious issue. But again, I'm very surprised Utah of all places banned the bible.

https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2023/06/01/bible-is-banned-these-utah/

In the USA, before the book bans, bibles were allowed in all public school libraries. But it is unconstitutional to force anyone to read the bible or to preach the bible. You can't even force anyone in prayer or pray in the classroom. But Texas made a new law saying teachers and students can pray right there in the classroom in front of other students. Texas even forced all schools in the state to hang a giant sized poser of the Bible's 10 Commandments in all classrooms. Also, any religious donations with 'In God We Trust' slogan is required to be publicly displayed in the school. Which means religious groups can donate a million posters or flags saying that religious phrase and it would have to be publicly displayed for all to see. Crazy goons. Who is indoctrinating who again???

I love it when their bigotry backfires on them. They deserve it. The thing is that while the bible is banned, the Book Of Mormon is not. So there could still be a fight on thier hands in Utah over that one. We'll just have to wait and see.

The bible has been returned to the school shelves in Utah after the original decision was appealed. So that really does mean that 'laws are for you and not for me' which conservatives has 100% proven their hypocrisy. It's perfectly ok for a book to have incest, porn, and explicit content. Tell me again why they are banning books? Because it's not due to porn after all.

OK, Governor DeSatin of Florida has now influenced their board of education academic standards and are now a complete racist controversy to our education. The new academic standards for grade school in regards to black history has now brought forth a very arrogant white supremacy white washing of history by claiming how slaves developed skills and trades as if slavery was a profession and benefited the slaves. Will the history being taught mention that slaves were not allowed to read and write? Or that they were raped, beaten, killed, hanged and whipped, and oppressed in every inhumane way possible? Not only that, but the new Florida education standards also will teach that blacks claiming the right to vote were massacred by the kkk and now considered by Florida academic standards that those blacks were held partly responsible for their massacre.

Florida state academic standards social studies 2023:

https://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/20653/urlt/6-4.pdf

Here is the new Florida black history education standards:

page 6:

Examine the various duties and trades performed by slaves (e.g., agricultural

work, painting, carpentry, tailoring, domestic service, blacksmithing,

transportation)

Benchmark Clarifications:
Clarification 1: Instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.

FUCK YOU FLORIDA KKK

Here's another quip from Florida Klan law:

SS.912.AA.2.8

Examine the range and variety of specialized roles performed by slaves.

Benchmark Clarifications:
Clarification 1: Instruction includes the trades of slaves (e.g., musicians, healers, blacksmiths, carpenters, shoemakers, weavers, tailors, sawyers, hostlers, silversmiths, cobblers, wheelwrights, wigmakers, milliners, painters, coopers).
Clarification 2: Instruction includes the variety of locations slaves worked (e.g., homes, farms, on board ships, shipbuilding industry).

Trying to act like slavery was beneficial and a fucking career that benefited them!!! FUCK YOU!

Ok, this one page 17

Describe the emergence, growth, destruction and rebuilding of black SS.912.AA.3.6 communities during Reconstruction and beyond.

Clarification 2: Instruction includes acts of violence perpetrated against and by African Americans but is not limited to 1906 Atlanta Race Riot, 1919 Washington, D.C. Race Riot, 1920 Ocoee Massacre, 1921 Tulsa Massacre and the 1923 Rosewood Massacre.

You see that? Our backlash is written in text in the Florida education where acts of violence in the 1920 Ocoee massacre was partly blamed on blacks? Blacks tried to vote and were intimidated, oppressed, and then massacred by the KKK. How the fuck are they "perpetrated by blacks?" Is voting against the KKK's will a perpetration??? Fuck you.

What will Florida say next, that christians from Europe saved the Native American's humanity? Fuck you KKK.

They have banned discussion of history and banned books from minority ethnic groups. Texas banned discussion of civil rights amendments to the mother fucking constitution! Can't talk about civil rights? Fuck you

This is where we are at now. The republicans will no doubt try to commit the next genocide. Prove me wrong you racist fucks! You can't and won't because you love this shit, you sick fucks.

And when teachers try to teach in the Florida fascist state, if they try and explain anything then they will be considered woke and get fired. Because discussion of history is banned. Do you not realize the insanity?

Just to clarify my rant from the previous post, the new Florida standards for black history now claims that blacks benefited from slavery and developed skills to help them in life. And the Florida academic standards from K-12 has a list of names of some successful blacks that will be taught to use as examples of how they benefited from slavery, but many of them were never even slaves or they developed a skill when they were finally free from slavery and the Florida standards even got many of their skills wrong too!!! Is this a blatant irresponsible attempt to lie and indoctrinate kids in schools to pacify them on what slavery actually was??? Let'snot forget that slaves had no choice. They were not allowed to read and write. They were raped, whipped, and lynched. So even if they learned to do something with a whip at their back, does not make slavery as something positive. Asshole republican nazis. Read this link, it's a must.

Basically, they’re saying that slavery was the best thing to happen to the black people who were abducted, taken away from their homes and families, thrown in chains, and sold as property. This is the kind of bullshit that led to the Ocoee Massacre. But before long, I’m sure there will be some kind of asinine threat to teachers who would even slightly allude to it having ever even happened. I've been out of town for a couple days, but I found out about this from YouTube.

I'm glad you found this video because it's hard for me to put this insanity into words. It's hard to have to consciously point out this blatant whitewashing of one of the most sinister acts perpetrated in this country with slavery and massacres. The anger and the rage has to be bottled in a way to explain this shit. This is the black history standard that all republican controlled states will now copy cat. And it will continue to get worse and worse because fascism is an obsession that will never end and it will come to the point of genocide if they get their way. It sucks this guy's wife is a teacher in Florida and has a kid attending Florida schools. And when a teacher has to teach this crap and explains the actual truth what happened or if a student asks a question about it, now the teacher will get fired for being called woke if they speak any truth or discuss it in any way.

Education is already the thing I get pissed off about.

The issue here would be solved by explaining historiography. The idea that there's a particular 'historic narrative' that is told for a reason-- usually to benefit people in power. I can assure you there are no academic historians who would seriously endorse that slavery was a good thing for the slaves. I suppose there's a group of people who benefit from this narrative and ignorance... though the essential question here is what can we actually do about it?

So many people "learned" in school that a can of soda has a serving size of half a can. I can not find any evidence this was ever true for the 12 floz (us units) cans that are common now and have not been able to find any cans in the market since I started looking. Yet, teachers still "teach" this in school and people are prepared to carry and defend this information because it came from a source they respect and consider authoritive.

I would also like to include the information that arson is illegal and that (thanks to Canada) many government buildings in the U.S. are no longer very flammable.

I know of one great solution to this problem which is to ban what is called 'historical negationism.' There are countries that actually do have it banned such as Germany. They have outlawed historical negationism so that there can't be any attempt to deny the Holocaust actually happened or change the historical facts to fit a narrative. Imagine if the Germans were allowed to start forcing schools to teach that the Holocaust benefited the Jews. Because that's the type of thing that is happening in America and the history of slavery. If we could ban historical negationism in the USA, it would put an end to all this nonsense in our education system. Because it will otherwise continue to get worse and worse. It's an obsession. It's very dangerous to try and whitewash history, changing facts, demonizing the victims, make it seem like it wasn't a bad thing at all, or outright deny it ever happened. So, that's my solution. Why it's not banned in this country? I don't know but it's something that needs to be done. I wrote to a representative once explaining why it needs to be banned and nobody ever responded. They probably never even read it.

That's not actually possible. What Germany has done-- righly!-- is ban all historic narratives that deny the Holocaust. All history is presented as a narrative, we just have to accept that things are not fair and a narrative that is beneficial to a person or group might also be factually substantial. It's not just about what's taught in schools, they are able to place additional restrictions on the media that the U.S. government cannot because we have the first amendment 'right to be stupid'. Last time the government tried stepping on that right things ended very poorly, so I'm not sure that's the solution we want here.

Part of why this happened is criticism of the progressivist narrative that was taught for years. This is what I was taught in school. The idea that history is always marching forward, in the morally correct, more scientifically advanced and correct direction and that the past is bad and wrong. It's taught that slavery is a big problem that the civil war is the 'solution' to, then fails to explain why the civil rights movement of the 60s happen. Then, once the schools integrate at the end of that-- which is not discussed as the difficulty it really was-- all racial issues are now tied up neatly in a bow! For some unexplained reason there's still unresolved racial issues in the 80s and 90s... but how can that be if those were 'solved' already in the 60s? Didn't the government force white people to give black people what they wanted? Well, that's the problem with that narrative. Problems crop up seemingly out of nowhere, unexplained then are tidily solved like the end of a very special episode in a way that fails to explain how things are linked, or how the reconstruction era was a colossal failure. So, for want of a better narrative we had to change it. Some people saw an opportunity to impose a narrative that much more overtly benefited them and that's the problem we have now.

That said, most history classes are now even renamed to be 'citizenship' classes and are used to impose propaganda on students. Public schooling has always been to impose middle class values on working class children, so why not some government propaganda, too? Hellen Keller appears as a 'woman in history' as a way of 'diversifying' the narrative. She presented as a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps inspirational story about overcoming disability. Fighting for women's rights and so on. They just leave out she became a card-carrying member of the communist party and that she believed strongly working class people were more susceptible to become disabled later in life due to industrial accidents. Why? That part had the black highlighter put over it by the house of un-American activities committee I'm sure.

Anyway, the problem isn't that history must be told as a narrative, or that that narrative might benefit some people. History does not really exist in factual absolutes most of the time. The only real solution is to attempt to teach competing narratives and perspectives. We shouldn't teach in a way that presents slavery as a correct or good thing. However, teaching slavery in a way that explains why it was useful and to whom it was useful is important (this answer is not actually just 'white people', by the way). Understanding that racism is a social tool used to control people, not just the people who are being transgressed. Rather, the group in power controls each other with racism to create fear and a common enemy. Of course in the real world you're more likely to marry outside your race than your tax bracket, but never mind that.
