StaceyPowers
What games have you played that function as extended deliberate references to other multimedia? For example, The Outer Worlds extensively references the TV show Firefly. BioShock extensively references Ayn Rand’s book The Fountainhead. Heatman
In the game Life is Strange, there was a big reference of George Orwell's Dystopian Novel 1984
Empire
If you are okay with graphic novels, the Scott Pilgrim series was great and had a fun little side scrolling beat em up. I can tell you what video game novel to avoid at all cost. Silent Hill: Betrayal was utter garbage, and pretty much fan fiction that got published. Has anyone read the Warcraft books, then played any Warcraft games 😛

Scorpion
Games like "Portal" cleverly reference the "Aperture Science" universe, while "Dead Space" pays homage to sci-fi horror films like "Event Horizon."
killamch89
One that stands out for me is Dead Space - it has some serious influences from classic sci-fi horror films like Alien and Event Horizon. The isolation and tension-building are almost straight out of those films, and the dark, mechanical design of the environment feels very much like those sci-fi classics.
