StaceyPowers
In a lot of games, the elements of “challenge” come from fighting harder and harder enemies, though they also get progressively easier to handle since you level up as you are doing it. What are some games that by contrast do not focus on leveling (or maybe don’t even include it), but offer challenges in a more organic way? Empire
Any games can be very challenged - from CSGO and you have a hard time not getting kills but you being dead so fast. Hotline Miami 1 and 2 are amazing the better you get at them, the crushing difficulty is hard to fight, but once you get the hang of it, trying to A+ levels and playing hlm2 hard mode is very satisfying. Kane99
I can only think of Dark Souls, but you kinda level up your health and all that. I don't think enemies get easier to kill, you just get better weapons and stats that help you defeat enemies faster. I can't think of any other games off the top of my head though, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
The Blackangel
I would say pretty much anything on the N64. I have played tons of games on it, and leveling up isn't a feature that I have ever found on the system. Sure, in some games you can get improved items, but there's no leveling process or feature that I have ever seen on any of them.
killamch89
The Shadow Of Mordor series is the one that comes to mind where the enemy that defeats you becomes your "Nemesis", they progressively get stronger as you do until you defeat them. It's very underrated and I wish more games would integrate that system.
Justin11
Sports games are my favorite from soccer to Racing and each provide a certain kind of challenge that is encountered in real life sport and it quite unpredictable and could lose to any team if you are not really good at it. Demon_skeith
Rayman games are pretty good for this, just getting harder as you go on, also Crash bandicoot 4.

Action platformer that gets harder as you go. Rage quit and increased blood pressure is a part of the series.

Yep - honestly, the Road To Nowhere is the single most frustrating stage I've ever played in any platformer and I've seen people destroy their tvs playing it and I'm talk back in the day. My blood pressure still has yet to recover from that stage, or the controller I broke 😛
Scorpion
Great question! Games like "Dark Souls" and "Celeste" emphasize skill development and precision over leveling, providing organic challenges through difficult gameplay.
