The Blackangel
I've said it before, and I'm forced to say it yet again: Crack is not your friend. But you know who would have been better for this role than Nicholas Cage? ANYONE. Get my favorite actor, Johnny Depp. He could totally pull this role off. Or get someone who plays horror almost exclusively. Tobin Bell would probably be best. No one has more dark class than Jigsaw himself. With the exception of Pinhead. Hmmmm..... Pinhead. Doug Bradley doesn't play him anymore, but he brought unrivaled class and elegance to the role. What about Bill Nighy? He played Victor in Underworld. Basically anyone who can pull off pure evil with beauty and elegance. Former vampire actors would be the starting place, and to my knowledge, Nick Cage has never played a vampire even once. Or even been in a vampire movie.

However, as the following clip will demonstrate, there is good reason to doubt that the powers that be behind Renfield recognised this as an "important mark" on his resume when they considered him for the role, and that's assuming they even knew about this movie at all: It is this movie that made me question why they choose Nicholas Cage for the role as Dracula in Redfield because his performance in Vampire's Kiss has been the subject of so many meme's that as least some people would find it hard to take him seriously. Vampire's Kiss presents Nicholas Cage at maximum Nicholas Cage, if you know what I mean. It's a comedy, so of course he act's like a goof in it, but still. It's kind of like casting Jim Carry to play a PI in a serious movie after Ace Ventura. Edited January 6, 2023 by Shagger
The Blackangel
I was completely unaware of the movie "Vampire's Kiss" despite being a child of the 80's. I like Nicholas Cage in action movies, but I never would have thought he would be in a comedy. Shows what I know. But either way, he is not the right actor for this role. They could have at least looked to Interview With The Vampire or Queen Of The Damned. Underworld would also have been a good choice.
Crazycrab
This might not be a popular opinion but I'm actually quite encouraged by this casting choice. It doesn't seem like a serious or dramatic interpretation of the character so having the Cage man being all cookie and over the top could actually work here. As far as I know, Nicholas Cage started in comedies and didn't do much action/drama until the latter half of his career. One of the first films of his I ever saw was Trapped in Paradise. It is actually quite good. But back to the point. It's not like I can't see him pull of Dracula, the guy has range, the problem is having people take him seriously as Dracula. Even the character itself is hard to take seriously anymore, so casting somebody like Nicholas Cage to play just makes an already hard task even harder.
