How many people still play Runescape?

Runescape has been around since 2001, though there has been a new Runescape in recent years, it's still relatively the same game and experience, with some new additions here and there. With that being said, how is this game still so popular? I remember when I was 11 or 12, playing this game for the first time. Never did I expect it to last until this point and time. I think the original version is still played by people to this day. I stopped playing it when I was around 14 or 15. Just didn't see the appeal in it and peaced out. But I know people who have played it as recently as months ago. 

Who here still plays it? Is it worth playing?

I haven't played it since the mid 2000s and that was when I was still in high school. I wasn't even aware it was still around and it does get a bit repetitive after a while. That being said, it was a good game to pass the time.
