Dismal_Bliss
What Makes a Video Game a Masterpiece? Is it the Storytelling/Narrative? Uniqueness? Innovative Gameplay and Mechanics? Art Direction and Graphics? or the Soud Design and Music? Or is it all of the above? killamch89
For me, a videogame is rated a masterpiece if it meets the following criteria: Fantastic and unique gameplay and mechanics Above average Graphical detail and sound Amazing Storytelling and Lore Memorable characters Dismal_Bliss
The Blackangel
To me a masterpiece is often the first inception of a game. Sequels can easily ruin a franchise if they're not done correctly. For example, just look at Zelda II. My personal criteria for a masterpiece will most likely not match anyone else's. The period the game came out is a big portion of that. Can you imagine SMB1 being revealed on switch, as opposed to when it came with the NES? Can you imagine them trying to release RDR2 or GTAV on the Virtual Boy? Timing is just about everything with when a game can be in the running for the "masterpiece" label. All the other things come second, third, fourth, etc.
