Considering Upgrading PS5 SSD Myself. Have You Tried It?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm considering upgrading my PS5's SSD myself to boost storage and performance. Have any of you attempted this? If so, how was your experience? Any tips or recommendations? Most of the videos I've seen so far hasn't fully covered the warranty issue. It took me forever just to get one and I don't want to wreck it.

It's very simple and takes less than 2 minutes to do. I've upgraded 5 PS5 units with 2TB NvME drives. It takes no time at all!

If you need help, here's a tutorial video:

Make sure the SSD you have has a built-in heatsink on it though! You will need it because these drives will run HOT in the PS5.

Drives I recommend:

This is the drive i've installed in mine and others: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-980-pro-heatsink-2tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme-for-ps5/6485009.p?skuId=6485009

This is good if you need more space than 2TB: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-990-pro-4tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4x4-nvme-with-heatsink-for-ps5/6559271.p?skuId=6559271

This is the one Sony 'recommends' - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-black-sn850p-4tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4-with-heatsink-for-ps5/6541327.p?skuId=6541327

I haven't but my friend did a few months ago, and it was not difficult . All you need is to just make sure you get an SSD with a built-in heatsink. The heatsink will keep the drive running very cool and quiet too.

I've also been considering upgrading my PS5's SSD too, but I'm very hesitant to doing it due to the warranty concerns. I've seen people have issues using a third-party SSD .

Thanks for the help. I already did it and installed a 2TB one - it was a lot more straightforward than I imagined,
