JennyorAlice
Do you think video games are expensive compared to how much they use to cost? Why or why not?
Cpvr
Honestly, they’re a tad bit more expensive than they were before. Games used to cost $50 and now they cost $60-70. You can also blame the cost of inflation on this as well. Edited June 25 by Cpvr
JennyorAlice
I remember when games use to cost around $25 to $30 when I was a kid. So paying $50 and higher for a video game now seems really expensive......or at least, it does to me.
Knight Barida
Games have been really expensive, but I think it has got a thing to do with the inflation level of the country. You don't expect the game to still be selling for the price it got sold some years ago.
Kennysplash
Well if the games are unreasonably expensive the producers will shoot themselves in the leg. But at the same time they would not want to run at a loss. So if the games are in the market and they are being purchased, they are doing fine.
JennyorAlice
I understand that things are going to be more expensive these days compared to when I was a kid. When I was a kid, one parent could work while the other parent could stay at home. These days I don't think it's possible. Both parents have to go outside the home and work, and sometimes they have to more more than one job.

I used to be able to get two games for $50 10-15 years ago, so yes, games are more expensive than they were before. However, the costs of developing games are also higher. Scorpion
Definitely. Video game prices have risen significantly over the years, often due to development costs and increased production values.
GameOn
Games have become expensive to buy, but development costs, and game designing have also gone up and it is not easy to design a game today as it was several years ago. With regard to the influence of the inflation rate, therefore, prices of modern games are up there.
killamch89
Yep. Games back in the day used to cost you maybe $30-$40 at most. Now games costs between $60-$70 with multiple editions where the most expensive one can go up to $100 and that doesn't even factor in the costs of the DLCs, cosmetics, season passes etc.
Button
In my opinion, games are not expensive at all taking into account the hours of fun which they offer. Indie games deliver big experiences with small budgets, and AAA games represent grand experiences with grand budgets. So, have some choices to make based on our budget. Lens
Okay, the new generation of the video game rental services such as Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Now and streaming services make games very affordable. Consumers can play a large number of games at a fixed price.
