Should I play BG 1 and 2 before BG 3?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what to say because even though I played the first two games, that was such a long time ago that I forgot what they were even about. But from what I've seen, Baldur's Gate 3 is its own thing and isn't really related to the first two games.

Based on my opinion, I'd say playing the first two Baldur's Gate games is definitely worth it before you dive into the third installment.

I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate 3. I haven't played the first two, and I really don't feel like I'm missing anything at all. It feels like a completely separate story, and although I'm sure there are some callbacks to previous games, there really are no references or characters that you won't recognize because you haven't played the others. I do however feel like the thing that helped me comprehend the game the best, was my previous experience with Dungeons & Dragons. It's absolutely not a requirement, but if you have played any D&D in the past, you will have a much easier time understanding the game's mechanics and world.

It's a completely different experience that has no correlation to the first two games. Completely new characters and settings and overall gaming experience.
