It turns out players just get the games hoping they will get back to it later. Many never do, perhaps because they have forgotten or they never seem to have the time. I used to buy a lot of bundles, like Humble Bundle, so my Steam library is filled with a lot of stuff I'm not really that interested in playing, but got through a bundle. I'm also a game collector, and have quite a few physical games in my collection that I have never played.
