Should Video Games Be Considered an Art Form?

Recommended Posts

I found out that the video games combine storytelling and visuals which makes them to be very unique and powerful. However, some have argued that games are merely for entertainment, and it therefore lacks the depth of the traditional art forms. What are your thoughts?

Based on my opinion, the video games are absolutely an art form because they require creativity, skill, and vision to actually craft them and to also evoke emotions and ideas just like what we’ve seen in iterature, film, or music.

Games can definitely push the boundaries and challenge the societal norms in ways that the traditional art forms can't. The likes of Minecraft, The Last of Us, and Portal habe proved that games can be both fun and thought-provoking at the same time.

Video games absolutely qualify as art. Just like a film or painting, they involve creative expression, whether through their narrative, visual design, or even interactive mechanics. Many games evoke deep emotions and philosophical ideas, blending visual artistry with storytelling in ways that can be incredibly profound. Plus, games like Journey or The Last of Us show that video games can go beyond mere entertainment and evoke meaningful experiences.

The storytelling and narratives of games make them a work of art. Games tell a complex and engaging story with deep characters and themes. This is similar to what literatures and films do.

Totally agree. The blending of art and technology in games can create profound experiences. What do you think are some key elements that make a game's story stand out compared to traditional storytelling methods?
