The series thrives on its tightly scripted sequences and cinematic storytelling, which could get lost in a sprawling open world. That's my observation though 🤔  I agree with you, especially when it comes to Portal. The tight, puzzle-focused gameplay relies on a controlled environment. Portal's brilliance lies in its carefully crafted, linear puzzles. Opening it up would definitely disrupt the flow and precision as well.
