Kane99
This needed to happen in the states, no worldwide, because once the PS5 pro 30th anniversary console went on pre-order, people scooped up the orders fast. If you look at eBay right now, you'll see a ton of people listing the console for a lot. But, it looks like Japan is taking a stab at stopping scalpers, by implementing conditions that you have to meet in order to get a pre-order in. Those are; Gamers must have a PSN account registered in Japan, and have at least 30 hours of PS4 or PS5 run time on the account between February 2014 and September 19, 2024. I saw this exact idea suggested in a reddit comment recently, and I don't know why they didn't do it for the states or other countries. If they had implemented a system like this, it would have stopped a lot of the scalpers, because lets face it, most of these scalpers probably don't even game, or if they do, I doubt they have multiple accounts they can use for this. My question, is why are they doing this specifically for Japan only? I figure this would have gone a lone way in the US, especially to stop the scalper problem. Knight Barida
When they make some of these rules, they should ensure that it gets to everywhere. That is the only way that they would be sure that they are really doing something to stop what they term as abnormalities. Limiting it only to Japan won't help at all. GameOn
I totally agree! Sony’s recent anti-scalper decision for a Japan-only PlayStation 5 restock is so refreshing. I also know that proper account requirements on PSN and 30 hours of gameplay would deter most scalpers.
Button
I am just wondering if anyone could imagine that having this test run in Japan will lead to implementation internationally. US gamers really need this protection against scalpers who put the games up on eBay for unreasonable prices.
Lens
But if Sony is to be truly serious about fighting scalpers, they will step this up. As a result, will not have to deal with overpriced consoles on eBay anymore.
