PlayStation seemingly removes OG Until Dawn from sale as hated remake releases

Recommended Posts

If you guys know, the new Until Dawn remake just dropped on the 4th, and ever since Sony has decided to remove the original version that dropped for the PS4. It's alleged that in some regions the original version of Until Dawn is not available for purchase, meaning people are forced to pay for the new remake in order to experience it.

Fans seem mixed on the new game too, some dealing with bugs, glitches and other problems. I've watched a comparison video of the original and the remake played together and it doesn't look all that much better. Sure the character models look awesome, but the environment and locations all look dark and boring in comparison to the original game. Colors look muted and lifeless. I honestly think the original looked better.

What do you think though of studios releasing a remake and then removing the original game from purchase? Especially when the original was much cheaper and doesn't look all that much different.

What are your views on this? It reminds me of when Rockstar removed the original GTA games (III, Vice City, San Andreas) from marketplaces after they released the horrible GTA trilogy remaster. I think Sony owes it to fans to put the original version back up for sale.

Absolutely agree! It feels unfair to take away access to the original, especially when remakes don’t always meet expectations. Fans should have the choice to buy the game they prefer. Sony should listen to the community and make the original available again.

I've noticed this becoming a trend recently. Right after Gundam Breaker 4 released, Amazon delisted PS4 copies of Gundam Breaker 3: Break Edition. And After Capcom Fighting Collection 2 was announced, the first Capcom Fighting Collection went out-of-print (though thankfully it's getting a second print run). Seems like developers are so desperate for sales that they're trying to strongarm people into buying the latest versions of their games.

Yep. I've seen Konami do this very thing recently as well. It's a scummy practice and it should get more backlash in the media.
