Procedural generation offers incredible replayability - games like No Man’s Sky or Minecraft are great examples where the world feels endlessly fresh because no two playthroughs are the same. That said, I do have a soft spot for hand-crafted levels, especially when a game has a strong narrative or atmosphere, like The Last of Us or Hollow Knight. These worlds feel so thoughtfully designed and layered with detail that it pulls me deeper into the story. If I had to choose, I’d lean more toward hand-crafted for its storytelling, but procedural generation wins when I want endless variety and exploration. Procedurally-generated content makes for a great time when you need fresh content at the drop of a dime. However, the story usually suffers as a result.
