Which PlayStation generation has the best game library, and why?

Recommended Posts

Out of all the PlayStation consoles (PS1 to PS5), which generation do you think has the best overall game library? Whether it's PS2's classics, PS3's experimental titles, PS4's polished experiences, or PS5's current lineup, each has a unique charm. I’d love to hear your opinions on which console had the most iconic games, best exclusives, or maybe just the most nostalgic impact.

I would say the PS1 has the best library. The system was new and experimental. No one knew if it was going to be a success or a failure. So they went a different direction than where Nintendo went. They came out with so many different and unique titles, and even managed to snag a couple games that had been exclusively released on Nintendo. Final Fantasy and Castlevania for example. Nintendo lost their shit and pitched a huge fit, but Sony didn’t care. They had the titles and released the most popular and successful game to date in the Final Fantasy franchise, which was FF7. Personally I hated FF7, but loved FF8 which was a pretty significant flop. So much of 8 is extremely cryptic. One of the reasons it flopped was because the majority of people couldn’t figure out how to get out of Caraway’s mansion at the end of disc 1. There’s a painting in the room that Square Enix thought would lead you to finding your way out, but no one got anything out of that. After angry reviews, SE had to release the answer to the room.

I totally agree. There were all kinds of unique games on the original PlayStation. There was Parappa The Rapper, Xtreme games, Jet Moto and other titles from that time that were very unique and heavily underrated.
