Will Technology Ever Replace Human Referees in Sports?

Recommended Posts

With the rise of advanced technology like VAR in soccer and Hawk-Eye in tennis, do you think we’re heading toward a future where human referees are completely replaced by AI or automated systems? Could technology make decisions more accurate, or would it take away from the human element that’s essential to sports? What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of fully automated refereeing in your opinion?

With the way they are going about the use of technology in sports, I think it's going to be possible that they are going to replace human refs with technology. It's going to be drastic but it's feasible.

Honestly, in some sports, it's a necessary change.

God, I hope that’s not where we’re headed. Human referees are a necessity for it to actually be a sport. If they start replacing the refs with AI, how long do we have until the players are all robots? Too much technology only ruins sports. There is bo benefit in using it. There are only consequences.
