Is There Room for More Innovation in Traditional Game Genres Like FPS or RPGs?

Recommended Posts

With so many well-established genres like FPS and RPGs, it sometimes feels like we’ve seen it all. However, there’s always room for new ideas and mechanics to shake things up. Do you think these genres still have untapped potential for innovation? Whether it’s in gameplay, storytelling, or even new ways to interact with the world, what innovations would you like to see in the future of FPS and RPG games?

For me, innovation often comes from mixing elements of different genres or exploring new technologies. For instance, RPGs could incorporate AI-generated branching narratives that adapt dynamically to player actions, creating truly unique playthroughs. FPS games could explore new forms of player interaction, like deeper emotional choices tied to combat scenarios. Genres might feel 'set,' but creativity keeps pushing the boundaries. Another reason why it feels so stale is because a lot of developers are using the same formula when developing their games. They need to take some risks and try something different.
