There are so many smaller studios doing incredible work that flies under the radar. Games like Hades and Transistor showcase a consistent level of creativity and polish that’s rare, even among larger studios. They’ve built a strong reputation, but I feel like they still don’t get quite enough recognition for their storytelling and art direction. A more niche pick would be Daniel Mullins Games (Pony Island, Inscryption) - they’re on another level when it comes to subverting expectations in game design.
