Should the lifespan of tech products be regulated to promote sustainability?

With tech products rapidly becoming obsolete, many are concerned about the environmental impact of short lifespans and planned obsolescence. Should there be regulations in place that ensure products are designed to last longer, be repairable, and have less environmental impact? What benefits or drawbacks do you see in regulating the lifespan of tech devices?
