What's a Food Fact That Completely Blew Your Mind?

Recommended Posts

I recently learned that honey never spoils like archaeologists have found 3,000-year-old honey in Egyptian tombs that’s still safe to eat. That got me wondering, what’s a food fact that completely shocked you? Maybe it’s something about how a common food is made, an unusual ingredient in something you eat all the time, or just a weird historical fact.

Shark fin soup. I know people who have tried it, and I’ve read reviews online, and everyone says the same thing. It has no flavor and almost no texture. Which makes me wonder what the hell is the point? You can’t taste it, and almost can’t feel it.

I’ll stick with chicken noodle, thank you very much.

Tasteless food is the worst. I agree, what is the point? Did they say if it's filling or not? That'd make it worse if it didn't go some way towards filling your stomach.

Apparently it’s not much different than condensed soup. A can of water and 3 or 4 noodles. It’s more broth than anything.

Ah. Okay. The one that really shocked me is when I learned that 80g of almonds have almost the same amount of protein as 25g of steak loin. For reference, Almond isn't even the nut with the highest amount of protein either.

I’ve always hated almonds. Cashews are good, but my favorites are pecans and walnuts.

I wouldn't say I hat Almonds but I prefer others like Brazil Nuts or Walnuts myself.
