In single player games it doesn't really matter as much as you can probably compensate for the low framerate somehow. But in competitive gaming you need the game to feed you information as fast as possible. @Alyxx speaking absolute facts - the higher framerate does help in FPS games but response time is also just as important especially in fast-paced competitive games. skyfire
Some folks who are into 4K monitors swear by the frame rate. And that can be interesting for anyone who has better refresh rate on the monitor.

Herschie
I go back and forth. Sometimes Iove the silky smooth framerate on the 1080p settings in MLB The Show, other times I marvel at the 4K settings. In years past, 4K produced an unbearable framerate, but it's ok in this year's game.
Martin Berisford
Out of all the things I consider when I'm looking to grab myself a game, I wouldn't say that frame-rate comes to the top of my list of considerations. All I care about at the end of the day is that my game plays well and that I am going to enjoy it. It's certainly not something I pay attention to anyway, Edited July 8, 2019 by Martin Berisford killamch89

Patrik
as a PC gamer, anything above 40 is completely fine for me, as long as stutter isn't included and the game is sort of playable, smoothness is a good thing to exist, but i can't rob a bank to buy a better pc :P
Empire
People try to aim for higher fps in exchange for worse graphics, if you have a strong enough machine and the game isnt as demanding then you can have both worlds, some even prefer lower frames for better graphics. The usual benchmarks for fps is that 30hz, but alot aim for 60hz to 144hz. An easy way to explain what it is, is to imagine a person walking for 60 seconds and you had to show what he does exactly through photos, you would get a more detailed graph of his motion of you took more photos rather than less, thats what fps is but instead of photos they are called frames and the more per second the smoother you can see their movement, for many its not really inportant unless you are playing high presicion games like fast pace first person shooters or mobas but for skyrim its fine to play at 30 fps

That said, for more cinematic games like The Last Of Us or Uncharted, it's not a big deal as I believe movies are rendered in 24 FPS, thus it makes the game more filmic aesthetically. Fast-paced shooters like COD, however, are very much reliant on that super smooth 60 FPS, though. As far as I'm concerned, 60 FPS is definitely better than 30 FPS. How the images are presented in 60 FPS is always more better.
