Joshua Farrell
What is more important to you in a game, the action or the story? I will generally love the story line more than the action in a game. But if the action properly compliments the story, and isn't just to get you from task 1 to task to, then I would enjoy that too. The Blackangel
It all depends on the type of game it is. For example with Zelda games, the story is more important. But with games like Resident Evil 2, action is more important. It truly varies from game to game. TheSteelyardDweller
skyfire
I think story with action, fantasy and magic is what we need. I think a lot of times that alone is good enough for me.
TheSteelyardDweller
story matters most to me action is cool too but story makes it mean something
SaucyPastaTho
A lot of both it has to be not boring and still have a story to tell when I play it.
Crazycrab
Depending on the style and genre you can prioritise one over the other. But I think (especially in modern times) what truly amazing games like The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War or Witcher 3 do is, without compromise, both. That's not to say that their isn't games out that focus almost (if not all) on story or gameplay mechanics that I don't enjoy, but they tend to be niche and only grab a corner of the market. skyfire
I think unless one plays the battle royale too much, story at the end matters a lot.
Shagger
I fall on the side of story. It's fantastic for a game to have great combat and action, but it'll inevitably feel empty lack purpose if the player doesn't feel like they're fighting for something. Juneberry
While action in a game is great, I'm far more story-driven than action-driven, whether it comes to games or anything else for that matter. The reason I love Portia is it has an interesting story with all sorts of twists and in depth characters. :
MeowsePad
Story is far more important to me. Action is a bonus, I suppose, but it's never the main reason that I play a game. Some of the games I play have horrible combat, yet the story carries them.
The Blackangel
I’ve always been more drawn to storytelling games. If there’s not a captivating story, then there’s nothing that will hook me and keep me coming back. It’s part of why I don’t like games like GTA. There’s no story there. skyfire
I think with too much small attention span people avoided the stories but now that trend will come back once people learn to have some patience.
Patrik
Storyline what matters the most, action is repetitive, which means feel boring after a while, when in the story, there is always new to find about
killamch89
I'd be more on the side of story. Don't get me wrong, good action also helps a game to sell but Action is the side piece to complement the main attraction which is the story. I've played numerous games with no action such as Broken Swords: Shadow of the templars that had an amazing story and I loved every second of it. I'm never going to choose one over the other because they both complete the game by making it a whole. If it's just action, it won't have any meaning and if it's just story, it won't be fun.
