StaceyPowers
Playing BioShock: Infinite and researching various historical and religious references in it has legit helped me form a better understanding of the religious and sociological factors that form the roots of America. In turn, that has helped me to understand current political polarization and how it has moved over time from a slow burn to a simmer (and perhaps soon a boil). Has anyone else found that playing a particular game has helped you understand current events either now, or at some point in the past?
SaucyPastaTho
Not necessarily. I think the one thing that helps people understand current events would be the news or south Park.( because it makes fun of everything. Note: South Parks episode on the corona virus will probably be epic.) Anyway unless future games implement the current situation then no.
22_22
I wouldn't any game that I've played has taught me anything about current events but it certainly has improved my knowledge in certain areas. For example woodcutting in Runescape taught me about nature and introduced me to different trees, which I continued to research and at the time I was fascinated by how many of them were actually real. I think the reason why I have not used games to understand current events is because I prefer to use games as an outlet to escape from the 'real world' and enjoy having fun without necessarily learning anything of value. Reality vs Adventure
Ps4 Wolfenstein 2 the New Colossus because all the propaganda you collect from the Nazis in newspapers, letters, post cards, signs, etc. all say the same thing republicans and trump say today. It is very eerie the similarities. I've taken pics of many of them and shared it to people and look at it side by side what republicans say today in 2020. It's the same!!! That's because Wolfenstein is not an actual historical document. The developers are far left anti conservatives, they don't present wwii nazism even remotely faithfully. I suspect they meant to caricature current conservatives more than they wanted to represent actual WWII nazis.
Reality vs Adventure
You can't attack the press, people of color, and rights as depicted in the game and the rhetoric or conspiracies from this administration and not be a Nazi. The game came out 2017. Almost word for word the fake leaders in 2020 say the same things, not vice versa! Stop defending it. We all know and see what fascism is. The days of denying it are over. Heatman
The same thing goes with my playing of Assassin's Creed series. It offers up a great deal of historical lessons that isn't easy to access but the game made it easy.
Head_Hunter
Most of the games we do play are recreated which happens from the real life scenes. Most of those action game fight occurs real life where terrorist attacks the government arm forces in a shooting exhibition.
Heatman
Games like Call of Duty series helps to explain what happens in the war fronts that we aren't there but can relive it in video games.
Justin11
Yes, I've learned historical facts around video games. In FIFA, it was talk about history about past seasons, best players, legends of a particular team, most goals scored by single players in a full calender season etc.
